In 1992, a business expansion and retention survey was conducted in Clay Township, Ohio. This survey asked business owners about factors that might impact their firms in the future and about the needs of the business community.

This study analyzes the survey findings and presents recommendations to lay the foundation for future economic development in the Township.

Specific development goals should include:

1) Improving cooperation between local businesses and the Township government. 2) Committing of the Township to an economic development plan. 3) Helping firms improve their competitiveness by helping them use local, State and Federal programs.

This investigation attempts to see if Card and Kreuger's retrospective findings that a significant positive relationship between higher ratios of female to male teachers and later increased earnings of workers extends to current test results of Ohio School Districts. One possible explanation for increased earnings later in life to be associated with a higher ratio of female teachers is that lack of alternative opportunities for females in the labor market before 1966 made it possible to hire more effective female teachers for a given salary. In this article, a specific example is given to illustrate that rent seeking can raise welfare under full seeking in general equilibrium: an import quota is levied in the presence of domestic monopoly in the import competing industry. An import quota is considered instead of an import tariff since a tariff confers no market power on the local monopolist. The monopolist still faces a perfectly elastic demand, corresponding now to the world price plus tariff. The introduction of monopoly does not add another distortion to the economy, which is necessary if full rent seeking is to be welfare improving. But …

Either private markets or publicly-subsidized programs can provide low-income housing. Federal programs such as the Section 8 low-income housing assistance program combines public funds with the existing private housing stock to provide housing for low-income families. Tenants, (or consumers) receive rent subsidies through either vouchers or rental certificates. The housing authority pays the voucher or rental certificate amount directly to the landlord each month.

This study examined the applicability of a multiple criterion decision making method, known as the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) , to economic analysis decisions involving project selection. Through a survey of the literature and current practices, it was determined that qualitative criteria were not adequately represented in a typical economic analysis of projects. Several MCDM methods were examined and the AHP was found to be the most promising technique to rate projects on a ratio scale. Two types of project selection problems, those involving nonmutually exclusive alternatives and those involving mutually exclusive alternatives, were examined. It was determined that the …

The Industrial Core Projects are the basic capital intensity industries deliberately established by the Federal Government to provide material inputs for downstream industries. They include steel plants, refineries and petrochemical plants, paper mills, fertilizer, marble, sugar and cement companies.
