The intent of this thesis is to study a variety of vocal techniques and identify how to solve different vocal challenges in the musical theatre song, "The Girl in 14G." In order to be successful in the entertainment business, it is imperative that a singer performs healthily and in a variety of music styles. Through an exploration of Lessac Kinesensic Training, Estill Voice Training Systems and Bel Canto techniques, a singer can gain a holistic perspective about voice. My Year as a Choreographer analyzes the art and craft of dance choreography. My training as a theatre and dance student at East Tennessee State University from 2010-2014, culminated in my final senior capstone experience as a choreographer for two productions, the ETSU Division of Theatre and Dance’s 2014 Dance Concert and University School’s musical, Sleepy Hollow. Composing a new dance in a concert setting and choreographing for musical theatre provided significant material for analysis, and the following research compares the two processes. En este ensayo se lleva a cabo un análisis de la violencia en tres obras del ciclo Los papeles del infierno de Enrique Buenaventura. Con ese propósito se aplican las categorías de violencia propuestas por S. Žižek y los análisis sobre la violencia en el teatro latinoamericano de ese periodo llevados a cabo por Severino Albuquerque (1991) y Diana Taylor (1991). En el presente trabajo se plantea un procedimiento práctico de ejercicios físicos de enseñanza basado en la teoría de las acciones físicas utilizadas para el entrenamiento de la memoria corporal, con el objeto de evaluar si existe una relación directa entre este procedimiento y la mejora en la capacidad de conseguir una interpretación fluida y orgánica en los actores.

Dicha evaluación se ha realizado, mediante el diseño de un cuestionario específico que ha sido presentado y respondido por actores, voluntarios, tanto previa como posteriormente a la realización de las sesiones prácticas.

In the fall of 2011, I began a course of graduate theatrical training at the University of Louisville. Over my three years of study, I have developed a process for the creation of a well-rounded and emotionally interesting character. I call my process three-dimensional acting. I sought to link, through this paper, cultural performances of identity through storytelling in Ireland, Scotland, and southern Appalachia. I evaluated storytelling practices, whether it was a public or private performance, using symbolic interactionism, dramatist theory, narrative paradigm, and performance theory. The author studied abroad in Ireland and Scotland through the East Tennessee State University Appalachian, Scottish, and Irish Studies Program and experienced an array of stories. She then evaluated her own experiences with storytelling from growing up in southern Appalachia and visited the International Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN. Lynn Riggs was an early to mid-20th century Native American playwright who wrote twenty-four full length plays, his sole enduring success being Green Grow the Lilacs, the play upon which the musical Oklahoma! is based. For much of the early part of Riggs’s career, he was considered a uniquely pioneering and promising playwright, cited in competition with Eugene O’Neill as vying for the position of best playwright of their age. A Den of Thieves is a three-act play detailing the final three days of Jesus of Nazareth from the point of view of the two "thieves" with whom he was crucified. However, rather than a retelling of the Gospels, A Den of Thieves approaches the story through a historical lens, presenting a portrait of Jesus as a Jewish revolutionary leading a populist rebellion against Rome for which he was ultimately publicly executed for sedition. The play offers an examination of both faith and the foundations upon which we build faith.

Review And Analysis Of The Marketing Practices Of Independent Local Musicans, Michael Hammari, Dr. Paul Deurden

Journal of Undergraduate Research

It was the intent of this research to identify and analyze the current and possible marketing practices of independent, local musicians based in the Provo Area. In order to accomplish this objective three methods were employed. First, local musicians were interviewed to examine their current marketing practices. Second, a sample of the public was surveyed to gage their awareness of local music. Thirdly, music events were promoted with the intent of experimenting with different marketing strategies. Over the course of the research more effort was focused on the final aspect of this project.
