This study focuses on three recent dramatic works by Cherríe Moraga’s written in the same period as her essay and poetry collection, The Last Generation. Heroes and Saints, Watsonville: Some Place Not Here, and Circle in the Dirt: El Pueblo de East Palo Alto draw from indigenous ecology and the historical archive of Chicano struggle that provide models for a sustainable future she envisions. Power To The Panza: The Politics Of Panza Positive Cultural Production, A Performance, Virgina Grise, Irma Mayorga

Abstract:

The Panza Monologues is a solo performance piece both written by Virginia Grise and Irma Mayorga and also composed from contributions by Chicanas in San Antonio, TX gathered by Grise and Mayorga. In live production of the piece, Grise is the solo actor and Mayorga serves as director, dramaturge, and designer. As a whole, the play focuses on stories that hinge on the metaphor of “la panza” to articulate and describe the multiple conditions of Chicanas’ lives in terms of their physical, social, racial, and class dimensions. Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Tsam, the sacred and complex Buddhist ritual dance, although only introduced to Mongolia in the 19th century, established itself as a significant ceremony before being halted by the purges and destruction the communist era. The 18 years of religious freedom that democracy has heralded have resulted in tsam’s successful reestablishment as a religious ritual in a growing number of monasteries across the country. Tsam has also taken its place as an icon of Mongolian culture for foreigners, a cornerstone of many performance groups’ representation of Mongolian cultural heritage. How and where do architecture and performance collide? Arms and the Man is one of Shaw's most beloved works. It's commentary on love, war and society is as applicable today as it was in the late nineteenth century. The comedy of the play is seen through the juxtaposition of character and the changes in attitude the main character and others goes through as the play progresses. Given the current conflict our country is involved in, audiences of today can readily relate to the ideas presented by Shaw on war and military action. Direction Of The Process Drama Piece: Making Sense Of Our Town, Janice L. Susko

Master of Theater Production Graduate Projects

This is a project report on a Process Drama piece conceived for Shortridge Middle School students in Indianapolis, Indiana. This project entailed the selection, background research and documentation of Thorton Wilder's Our Town, decisions about concept and themes to aid in its direction, and preplanning the layers to build structure so students at Shortridge Middle School could inquire, investigate, explore, and create their own interpretation of the play. The analysis includes a discussion as to the non-traditional directorial vision of this production.
