On was an interdisciplinary graduate periodical established by RISD graduate students in 2006. The February 2006 issue is the publication's first issue and features essays on the theme of space. Essays are on a variety of topics within this theme, including commentaries on RISD and explorations of student work.

Muffin was a newsletter produced in the early aughts by RISD’s Queer Student Union as a student guide to queer culture. The January 2006 issue is the first since the February-March issue from 2004. It was revived by the Straight and Gay Alliance and features a "gay timeline," articles on freshman lesbians, female pirates Anne Bonny and Mary "Mark" Read, lesbians who look straight, why straight people are needed in RISD's Straight and Gay Alliance, a Jewish student's struggle to reconcile his homosexuality with his faith, and cheap and corny date ideas, along with a book review of "Women's Barracks" …

Peter and Rita are two young, happy lovers who are getting married. On their wedding day, after their nuptial kiss, an old man comes up to kiss the bride. During this kiss, their souls exchange, and the young, beautiful woman Peter just married now houses the soul of a dying, old man. On their honeymoon, Peter starts to notice that something's not quite right. When he discovers the truth, he confronts the old man, who now holds Rita's soul. This project entailed the selection, academic and visual graphic research and documentation, sceneographic design and execution, casting, direction, movement choreography, vocal coaching, and post-production analysis of Alaska Theatre of Youth 2005 Summer Conservatory's production of Inuk and the Sun by playwright Henry Beissel. The documentation includes research and analysis of the play, and an evaluation of this play as a production vehicle for the department of Theatre Arts at Central Washington University. This project also includes graphic research collages and renderings for scenery and costume designs.

"When considered in the context of Elizabeth's effort to silence all discussion of incest, Edmund Spenser's courtly epic aiming to cultivate favor with the monarch looks like a disastrous miscalculation, for incest appears throughout The Faerie Queene. Indeed, incest sits at the center (both literally and figuratively) of the Book of Chastity, the very book wherein Spenser encourages Elizabeth 'in mirrours more then one her selfe to see.' In the present essay, I investigate the apparently illogical and impolitic prominence afforded to incest in book three of The Faerie Queene, ultimately arguing that the imperialist logic underpinning the epic is …

As both a scholar and a belly dancer, I believe that belly dance is recognizable on aesthetic grounds. In addition to the movements that belly dancers typically perform—muscle isolations, undulations, graceful hand motions and turns, and lots of hip work—belly dancers wear costumes that are visually identifiable as belly dance costumes. While this description may seem tautological, there are recognizable standards both in the public sphere and among dancers for what constitutes the belly dance image—or images, as belly dance is a diverse phenomenon that encompasses teaching, learning, performing, watching, socializing, and costuming.

Antonin Artaud’s second manifesto for the Theatre of Cruelty cries out for a theatre that will depict “great social upheavals” and “conflicts between peoples and races.” Opposed to “disinterested” theatre, Artaud designed the Theatre of Cruelty to depict and affect not only the “tortured victims,” but also the “executioner-tormentor himself.” Artaud viewed both as trapped by “a kind of higher determinism” which he sought to alter through the Theatre of Cruelty (102). To usher in this new theatrical tradition, Artaud declared that the “first spectacle of the Theatre of Cruelty will be entitled: The Conquest of Mexico” (126). Explaining …
