Dance/movement therapy (D/MT) is the psychotherapeutic use of expressive, creative movement to support holistic well-being. D/MT views the human being as a single body-mind unit and movement as a manifestation of life experiences. While typically practiced as a mental health intervention, D/MT can be adapted for a variety of populations. This thesis evaluates scientific data for the non-traditional use of D/MT for three conditions: autism, Parkinson’s disease, and cancer. For individuals on the autism spectrum, D/MT can strengthen attunement skills, provide creative communication outlets, and relieve harmful physical manifestations of autism. For individuals with Parkinson’s disease, D/MT can simultaneously ease …

My experience as a dance maker is rooted in the following: use of space, interpersonal relationships, efforts in dynamics, psychology, and personal memory, all of which inform my thesis project. This thesis project specifically investigates the stages of psychosocial development as seen through the theories of psychologist Erik Erikson. It explores the emotional effect of these psychosocial stages on people, including conflicts and positive impacts. I demonstrate how these developmental stages can define a person's identity and how audience members, choreographers, and artists from various fields might be influenced by them. It is a detailed account of author John Greer’s artistic process of creating the choreography for Disney’s High School Musical as a part of Minnesota State University, Mankato’s mainstage theatre season in the fall of 2022. The thesis chronicles the choreographer’s artistic process from pre-production through performance in five chapters: a preproduction analysis, an historical and critical perspective, a rehearsal journal, a post-production analysis and a process development analysis. Throughout my life as a dancer, I often wondered if body image issues were purely found in Western concert dance (such as ballet and modern dance) and if folk dance instilled a sense of ownership over one’s body. It was apparent to me that being asked to stare at yourself in the mirror for hours on end in a ballet class, or any other dance style, forced you to see every tiny defect in your body. วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่อง การสวมบทบาทนางผีเสื้อสมุทรในบทละครเรื่องพระอภัยมณี ของกรมศิลปากร มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากลวิธีการสวมบทบาทนางยักษ์ผีเสื้อสมุทรฉบับกรมศิลปากร โดยมีการศึกษาจากเอกสารวิชาการ การสัมภาษณ์ การทดลองแบบมีส่วนร่วมและไม่มีส่วนร่วม การรับชมการฝึกซ้อมและการรับชมการแสดง โดยมุ่งเน้นศึกษากลวิธีการสวมบทบาทเป็นนางผีเสื้อสมุทรในบทละครเรื่องพระอภัยมณีตอนเพลงปี่พิศวาสถึงเพลงปี่พิฆาต โดยศึกษารูปแบบและวิธีการปฏิบัติของ อาจารย์ธานิต ศาลากิจ ข้าราชการบำนาญ สำนักการสังคีต กรมศิลปากร ผลการวิจัยพบว่ากลวิธีปัจจัยสำคัญสำหรับการสวมบทบาทนางผีเสื้อสมุทรนั้นมี 3 ประเด็นด้วยกันคือ 1. คุณลักษณะของผู้แสดงที่จะต้องมี เสียง ระดับกลาง เสียงไม่ทุ้มหรือแหลมจนเกินไปพูดชัดถ้อยชัดคำ ฉะฉาน ปฏิภาณไหวพริบที่ดีในการแก้ไขสถานการณ์เนื่องจากบทละครระบุให้มีเจรจารับส่งมุกตลกและใช้เพื่อดำเนินเรื่อง ฝีมือการรำที่สวยงาม มีจริตของตัวนางผสมนางยักษ์ วงและเหลี่ยมมีขนาดย่อมกว่ายักษ์ชาย การกระทบจังหวะหนักแน่น มีการก้าวข้างลงเหลี่ยมหลบเข่า กดเกลียวข้าง การชี้นิ้วมือ และรูปร่างใหญ่แต่สันทัด ส่วนสูง 160-165 เซนติเมตร โดยประมาณ 2. ผู้แสดงจะต้องมีขั้นตอนการสวมบทบาท โดยให้ความสำคัญกับการตีความบทละครอย่างละเอียดทุกคำ ทุกบรรทัด วิเคราะห์เพื่อประกอบสร้างนางผีเสื้อสมุทรให้เกิดความสมจริงตามบทละคร ขั้นตอนการสมมติบทบาทของผู้แสดงเป็นนางผีเสื้อสมุทรที่ผู้แสดงสร้างขึ้น การมุ่งเน้นอารมณ์เป็นหลักในการแสดงเพื่อถ่ายทอดความรู้สึกออกมาให้ได้อย่างเต็มที่ และการฝึกฝนจนก่อให้เกิดความชำนาญ 3. การแสดง ผู้แสดงจะต้องทำความเข้าใจวิธีการถ่ายทอด ตัวละครนางผีเสื้อสมุทรที่ผู้แสดงได้ประกอบสร้างไว้ ในรูปแบบของนาฏกรรมที่ใช้แสดง โดยประกอบไปด้วย ท่ารำในการตีบทแบบมีคำร้อง ท่ารำกาแสดงขยายความรู้สึก (แบบไม่มีคำร้อง) เพลงหน้าพาทย์ การเจรจาตามบท การแสดงขยายความรู้สึก (เจรจาแทรกบท) สามารถแสดงอารมณ์ได้หลากหลาย ฉับไวในการสร้างอารมณ์และพลิกแพลงอารมณ์ แยกแยะระดับของอารมณ์ตามความสัมพันธ์ของแต่ละตัวละครได้และสถานการณ์ การใช้อุปกรณ์ และการใช้พื้นที่เวที ผู้แสดงจึงต้องมีความเข้าใจและหมั่นฝึกฝนกลวิธีดังกล่าวนี้จนเกิดความชำนาญ จึงจะสามารถสวมบทบาทนางผีเสื้อสมุทรออกมาได้อย่างแยบยล

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ศึกษาเรื่องพัฒนาการของกระบวนการสร้างสรรค์การแสดงหุ่นกระบอกของคณะบ้านตุ๊กกะตุ่นหุ่นกระบอกไทย โดยวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาพัฒนาการของแนวความคิดและกระบวนการสร้างสรรค์การแสดงหุ่นกระบอกไทยของคณะบ้านตุ๊กตุ่นหุ่นกระบอกไทย ศึกษาจากการแสดงของคณะบ้านตุ๊กกะตุ่นหุ่นกระบอกไทยตั้งแต่ ปีพ.ศ. 2552 - 2564 และยังมีการศึกษาด้วยวิธีการสืบค้นข้อมูลจาก หนังสือ เอกสาร งานวิจัยต่างๆ การสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญที่มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องกับ คณะบ้านตุ๊กกะตุ่นหุ่นกระบอกไทย การลงพื้นที่สังเกตการณ์การแสดง ผู้วิจัยมุ่งศึกษาคณะบ้านตุ๊กกะตุ่นหุ่นกระบอกไทยซึ่งก่อตั้งโดย อาจารย์ ดร. นิเวศ แววสมณะ ในปี พ.ศ 2540 เป็นคณะหุ่นกระบอกที่มีความหลากหลายในด้านของงานการแสดง และด้านองค์ประกอบของการแสดง ในระยะเวลา 13 ปี ตั้งแต่ปีพ.ศ. 2552 - 2564 คณะบ้านตุ๊กกะตุ่นหุ่นกระบอกไทย มีการแสดงทั้งหมด 19 เรื่อง ผู้วิจัยได้แบ่งแนวคิดการแสดงเป็น 2 ส่วน คือ 1.การแสดงหุ่นกระบอกไทยโดยการนำเรื่องมาจากวรรณคดีและวรรณกรรมท้องถิ่น 2.การแสดงหุ่นกระบอกโดยการนำเรื่องมาจากเนื้อหาที่ถูกแต่งขึ้นใหม่ การแสดงหุ่นกระบอกของคณะบ้านตุ๊กกะตุ่นหุ่นกระบอกไทยนั้นมิได้มีเพียงการแสดง หุ่นกระบอกไทยแบบดั้งเดิมเพียงอย่างเดียว แต่ยังมีการพัฒนารูปแบบของการแสดง เนื้อเรื่อง รวมถึง ตัวหุ่นกระบอกให้มีความหลากหลาย และดึงดูดผู้ชมได้ ทำให้คณะบ้านตุ๊กกะตุ่นหุ่นกระบอกไทย โดยอาจารย์ ดร.นิเวศ แววสมณะได้รับรางวัลต่างๆ มากมาย ได้แก่ 1. รางวัลศิลปินผู้อนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมดีเด่น กรุงเทพมหานคร สมาคมโรตารี่แห่งประเทศไทย 2550 2. รางวัลศิลปินวัฒนคุณาธร กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม 2555 3. รางวัลดีเด่นด้านการอนุรักษ์ ฟื้นฟูมรดกภูมิปัญญาทางวัฒนธรรม กรมส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรม กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม 2558 4. รางวัลศิลปินผู้ประกอบวิชาชีพอนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมดีเด่น กรุงเทพมหานคร สมาคมโรตารี่แห่งประเทศไทย 2559 5. รางวัล Mention Award การแสดงหุ่นกระบอกไทยเรื่องพระเนมิราช งานเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ 2560 6. รางวัลครูช่างศิลปหัตกรรม โดยกรมส่งเสริมศิลปาชีพระหว่างประเทศ 2561 7. รางวัลผู้อนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมยอดเยี่ยมโดยกรมส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรม ประจำปี 2561 8. รางวัล Silver awards & The Best beautiful costume puppet งานเทศกาลหุ่นนานาชาติฮานอย …

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องการสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ไทยในรูปแบบกีฬาลีลาศฉบับนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาแนวทางการสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ไทยในกีฬาลีลาศ เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยใช้วิธีการค้นคว้าทางเอกสาร การสัมภาษณ์ การสังเกตการณ์แบบมีส่วนร่วม และการทดลองสร้างสรรค์ผลงานทางนาฏยศิลป์ กีฬาลีลาศมีทั้งความเป็นศิลปะและเป็นกีฬาอยู่ในศาสตร์เดียวกัน ผู้วิจัยได้รับแรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างสรรค์ลีลาศที่มีการนำนาฏยศิลป์ไทยมาใช้ในการออกแบบ ได้แก่ จังหวะตะลุง จึงได้ทำการทดลองสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ไทยในกีฬาลีลาศจำนวน 2 ประเภท โดยใช้การฟ้อนแบบนีโอล้านนาที่มีลักษณะการรำที่ช้าในจังหวะวอลซ์ เกิดขึ้นเป็น “ล้านนาวอลซ์” และ การเซิ้งทางภาคอีสานของไทยที่มีลักษณะการรำที่เร็วในจังหวะแซมบ้า เกิดขึ้นเป็น “ภูไทแซมบ้า กระบวนการออกแบบสร้างสรรค์ประกอบด้วยองค์ประกอบ 5 ส่วน ได้แก่ 1. แนวคิด 2. เพลงประกอบ 3. การออกแบบท่าเต้น 4. การออกแบบเครื่องแต่งกาย และ 5. การนำเสนอผลการสร้างสรรค์ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า แนวทางการสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ไทยในกีฬาลีลาศคือ การใช้ลักษณะเด่นของนาฏยศิลป์ไทยได้แก่ การจีบ การตั้งวง และการกดเกลียวข้าง มาใช้กับส่วนบนของร่างกาย ส่วนการใช้เท้าและการใช้พื้นที่เป็นไปตามแบบลีลาศ ทั้งการฟ้อนแบบนีโอล้านนาและการเซิ้งทางภาคอีสานของไทย เหมาะสำหรับการออกแบบส่วนบนของร่างกาย การเต้นของวอลซ์และแซมบ้ามีลักษณะการใช้เท้าและขาเหมาะสำหรับการสร้างสรรค์ส่วนล่าง โดยผู้วิจัยเห็นว่ามีความเป็นไปได้ในการนำนาฏยศิลป์ไทยมาออกแบบสร้างสรรค์ในรูปแบบกีฬาลีลาศ และยังสามารถพัฒนาต่อไปได้อีก

Her attempts to create a safer space for her fellow performers brings to light the complicated rules and regulations as well as the obstacles street performers face on the daily. In music, the word “tempo” refers to the speed or pace of the music (the number of beats per minute, for example). Tempo is surprisingly subjective, given that beat perception depends on age and cultural experience. Other factors besides beat (like the density of events per unit time) might influence how fast or slow people dance to music. Certain styles of music afford different speeds of dance, even when their tempos are the same.

My presentation explores the relation between American masculinity and film musicals. I demonstrate how the dominance of the musical at the box office in the middle of the 20^th century reflects historical events and technological change. Drawing on both scholarly and popular criticism, I show how the images of masculinity that Americans once encountered on the silver screen have transformed as musicals became marginal to popular culture in the United States. My research considers both classic 20^th century musicals, such as Wizard of Oz (1939) and 42^nd Street (1933), and more recent experiments with the genre, including …

This capstone thesis examines the question of how dance/movement therapy can be combined with tai-chi to support the emotional regulation of children who have experienced trauma. The paper examines a possible method that combines dance/movement therapy with tai-chi, grounded in the theories of Trudi Schoop. It highlights the application of tai-chi as a movement intervention that impacts participants ability to engage in treatment. Through the literature it was found that dance/movement therapy techniques of deep breathing, balance, and slow, rhythmic movements can impact emotional regulation. The host institution for the study was an urban school district in the southern central United States serving 75,000 students, with 55% students identified as Hispanic, and 52% of students experiencing poverty. How we walk—or our inability to do so—is telling of who we have been. I propose this simple movement practice as a pedagogical engagement with the concept of faithful witnessing, which refers to attending to modes of power unbalance that might go unnoticed, and to people's creative and resistant possibilities (Lugones, 2003; Figueroa-Vásquez, 2015). This activity is suggested to provoke reflections about how we understand and experience social difference and power unbalances.
