A Genre Analysis Of National Endowment For The Humanities Nonprofit-Project Grant Proposals, Jeffrey M. Lapointe

To reveal how writers can craft effective nonprofit grant proposals the study examined proposal narratives for which the U.S. National Endowment For The Humanities (NEH) had awarded financial grants to nonprofit organizations. The study identified the rhetorical moves that the various proposal authors had made as steps toward persuading NEH to award grants.

By drawing on the early findings of an IRB-approved study, this presentation will discuss some challenges involved in teaching structured authoring, defined here as topic based authoring combined with an XML or XML-like structure. Since the late 1980s, Robert E. Horn and others referred to structured authoring/writing as a new paradigm that transforms the ways writers think about information usage, presentation, and structuring. Charlotte Robidoux (2007) and Sally Henschel (2010, 2014), among others, have explored how curriculums that taught structured authoring might help students begin to understand how the approach changes writing. Purdue’s Professional Writing program has worked with the Lafayette Transitional Housing Center for people living with homelessness in recent years through a multimedia writing course. Through this partnership, students have the opportunity to create deliverables to help the center improve their digital media presence and public outreach. In a particular project working with the interviews of individuals living with homelessness who utilize LTHC as a resource, a podcast deliverable was created for the future use and implementation of the Lafayette Transitional Housing Center, in addition to a methodology used to aid LTHC in continued use and creation of the podcast …

The following is a final master's degree portfolio of revised graduate work in English composition. Consisting of four projects, this portfolio highlights research, theory, and applications in multidisciplinary writing, visual argumentation, linguistics pedagogy, and professional editing. The pieces within reflect significant growth and adaptation in the field of English comprehension and writing, where successful compositions walk hand-in-hand with innovation, audience acknowledgement, and the willingness to change as language ebbs and flows with the passage of time.
