Jorge Luis Borges’S Poetic Response To The Arab-Israeli Six Day War, Stephen Silverstein

At variance with the pro-Arab stance that most Latin American intellectuals assumed during the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War (June 5-10, 1967), Jorge Luis Borges’s life-long connection to “lo hebreo,” as he called it, translated into “an immediate taking of sides” with Israel (“Autobiographical Essay” 257). As war erupted between Israel and its Egyptian, Jordanian, and Syrian neighbors, Borges expressed his felt kinship to the Jewish state in the poem “A ISRAEL.” In the war’s aftermath he penned a second poem, “ISRAEL.” Whereas the Jewish motifs that proliferate in Borges’s prose have been well studied, his poetry has received much less critical …

El Murmullo De La Noche: Antologia De Cuentos Extranos, Alberto Alejandro Cabada

La presente tesis es un trabajo de creación literaria. Esta antología está compuesta de trece cuentos cortos en los que se relatan diversas historias usando una narrativa en primera y tercera persona. Los géneros que se manejan en estos cuentos son el terror, el surrealismo y lo fantástico, desarrollando los temas de la muerte, la locura, la soledad y el horror. Asimismo, es una obra creativa que comparte rasgos con la literatura del período romántico y los movimientos naturalistas y simbolistas de finales del siglo XIX, al igual que la vanguardia latinoamericana de principios del siglo XX.

Por medio de la escritura creativa pretendo transmitir mis experiencias y las de mi comunidad a través de un libro de cuentos. La injusticia hacia la mujer, los niños, inmigrantes, la muerte, el amor y el desamor son temas que destaco en mi trabajo. Recuerdos que me hostigan desde niña y adolescente y que brotaron en sueños son otro punto de partida para otras creaciones. Over the past few decades, the presence of Asia in the history of Latin American literature has received considerable scholarly attention. An increasing number of studies on Asia in relation to Latin American politics and economy has been accompanied by a growing interest in cultural relations between these geographically distant regions. While the trans-Atlantic ties between Europe and Latin America have been scrutinized by critics for many years, the analysis of a trans-Pacific connection is still considered to be a relatively new subject. El nombre de Rosario de Velasco es hoy en día desconocido por la mayoría de los españoles, a pesar de que uno de sus cuadros, Adán y Eva (1932), se expone en el Museo Reina Sofía de Madrid en la egregia compañía de Dalí, Picasso o Juan Gris. Habiendo gozado de cierto éxito en los años treinta y cuarenta, Velasco ha caído en el olvido tanto de la crítica1 como del público.
