Perlimplín: Lorca's Drama About Theatre, Sharon G. Feldman
Perlimplín: Lorca's Drama About Theatre, Sharon G. Feldman
Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies Faculty Publications
The contemplation of a theatrical work as a type of semiotizing machine which generates a network of signification systems, implies, a priori, the task of specifying the boundaries which define the object of analysis. Hence the dichotomy of text and performance has long been recognized as uniquely inherent in the theatre genre and, therefore, a logical preoccupation of the theatre semiotician. As indicated by contemporary theoretical work (such as that of Patrice Pavis and Anne Ubersfeld), it would appear that the role of the spectator in the reception of a performance is finally coming into view as an essential aspect …

A Study Of Image, Symbol, And Theme In La Casa De Bernarda Alba, Iris Scribner Bird
A Study Of Image, Symbol, And Theme In La Casa De Bernarda Alba, Iris Scribner Bird
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The tragedy, La casa de Bernarda Alba, by Federico Garcia Lorca is generally recognized as one of the finest poetic tragedies of the Twentieth Century, yet it has not drawn the critical attention afforded the plays of Lorca's contemporaries, such as 'Tennessee Williams, for example. Ironically, Williams' early plays evince a definite. Lorquian influence. Close attention has been paid to the poetic texture of.Williams plays, providing an important contribution to understanding the art of his poetic tragedy. The same has not been true of Lorca. This may he due partly to the fact that Lorca's ·tragedies have not played very …

The Nativity Plays Of New Mexico, Edwin C. Munro
The Nativity Plays Of New Mexico, Edwin C. Munro
Spanish and Portuguese ETDs
The Southwest is a region and a concept. New Mexico is an integral part of it...The Spanish folk heritage of the Southwest is a cultural resource that is highly important in the regional complex...My attempt here, then, has been to clarify and make available to more people one feature of this cultural heritage--the nativity plays.
The Modern Spanish Theatre : With Particular Emphasis Upon The Works Of Jacinto Benavente, Eunice Vivian Fitch
The Modern Spanish Theatre : With Particular Emphasis Upon The Works Of Jacinto Benavente, Eunice Vivian Fitch
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The great literary movements affected Spanish drama less than that of any other country, though romanticism drew the public and stage closer. Realism and naturalism were slow in developing due to the "manifest incompatibility existing between the very spirit of the French realists and the Spanish national dramatic ideals."2 Spanish national drama deals in elemental passions, is poetic in situations, and magnificently conventional in tone; while its literary form is more important than its dramatic structure.2 French literature contains fine and subtle psychology, witty and ingenious, but is sometimes a little unsubstantial. Not universal theme but complex and …
The Social And Moral Principles In The Dramas Of Manuel Tamayo Y Baus, Sylvia Potuondo
The Social And Moral Principles In The Dramas Of Manuel Tamayo Y Baus, Sylvia Potuondo
Bachelors’ Theses
Of Tamayo y Baus it may be said as of the poets, that he was born and not made a dramatist. A friendly biographer, who lived in intimate relation with him, tells us that this great genius, like the gods or old, always appeared to him enveloped in a cloud. His actions were ever in conformity with his art-- even his death was as if practiced and rehearsed in anticipation, but on reading his critics we learn how very human was his life.
