The Ministry Of Service: A Critical Practico-Theological Examination Of The Ministry Of Presence And Its Reformulation For Military Chaplains, Mark Tinsley
Masters Theses
For centuries, the military chaplaincy has been guided by an applied ministry paradigm known succinctly as the ministry of presence. Although this model has served the chaplaincy well in many ways, it is not without its ideological, theological, biblical, and practical weaknesses. This work purposes to illuminate some of these weaknesses, while at the same time affirming the various strengths of presence ministry. In the end, however, this thesis will propose an alternate ministerial model for the military chaplaincy, namely, the ministry of service. Unlike its presence-ministry counterpart, the ministry of service will be shown to harmonize better with biblical …

Scholarship And Ministry In The Life And Thought Of Augustine, Anthony C. Thornhill
Scholarship And Ministry In The Life And Thought Of Augustine, Anthony C. Thornhill
Liberty Theological Review
Augustine is frequently recognized as one of the greatest Christian theologians in all of church history. His influence extends to both Protestant and Catholic circles, and his numerous theological works are still referenced by today's students of theology. The context of his theological writings are often overlooked. While he did, on occasion, seek to write weighty and intricate theological works, his primary focus was upon better equipping himself to minister to the believers he served as the bishop of Hippo. This is clearly evidenced in his sermons and his letters, which provide an important window into his historical context.
Marriage And Ministry: Conflicts And Occupational Conflicts In Wesley’S Life And Ministry, Tony Headley
Marriage And Ministry: Conflicts And Occupational Conflicts In Wesley’S Life And Ministry, Tony Headley
The Asbury Journal
In this article, the author explores John Wesley's perspectives on marriage and how these views related to his practice of ministry. Specifically, the author examines Wesley's developmental journey from believing he could not marry to actually contracting a marriage with Mary Vazeille. Following exploration of Wesley's perspectives on marriage, the author discusses these issues in relation to two observed patterns in his significant intimate relationship with Sophy Hopkey, Grace Murray and Mary Vazeille; namely that for the most part, Wesley cultivated these relationships out of travel and illness. The author concludes that even though Wesley moved from a position of …

Women's Ordination- A Litmus Test For Antinomianism, Joseph Omolo
Women's Ordination- A Litmus Test For Antinomianism, Joseph Omolo
Master of Art Theology Thesis
When the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya (ELCK), to which I belong, established a deaconess college at the beginning of this century to train young women for parish work, it was not clear which kind of education they were going to be offered. Many observers, both from within and without, saw this as a signal that the church was moving towards the ordination of women. When the first crop of deaconesses graduated and were deployed into the parishes, a great confusion reigned among the members, both clergy and ordinary Christians, regarding the role of these new workers. To compound the …

Theology Of The Divine Call And Intentional Interim Ministry In The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, John Reek
Theology Of The Divine Call And Intentional Interim Ministry In The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, John Reek
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
This study will first survey the development of interim ministry and its purpose and use in congregations. Second, this study will review the Lutheran Confessions regarding the call to the Office of the Holy Ministry and the implications for interim ministry. In order to hone our understanding, Luther's writings will also be examined. Pertinent to understanding what was confessed by the Reformers is what was practiced by the Reformers; therefore, the history of two important pastors and one exemplary situation of the Reformation era will be examined. The author believes these situations to be instructive at least as a parallel …
