Building Bridges Of God During Calamity: Lessons Learned From India, Gary L. Mcintosh

The Church Growth Movement has historically placed a priority on evangelism over that of social action. From a church growth perspective, if social action takes priority, evangelism is eventually lost amid the numerous good things that a church can do. In contrast the thinking of the missional church declares it is possible keep evangelism and social action in balance with neither gaining a priority edge. Using a real story from the missionary life of Donald McGavran’s father, John G. McGavran, this article illustrates that when social action does, as it often must, take first place over evangelism, effectiveness in evangelism …
Learning To Talk To An Other: Stories And Thoughts On Community Organizing In A Divided Nation, Greg James Capillo
Learning To Talk To An Other: Stories And Thoughts On Community Organizing In A Divided Nation, Greg James Capillo
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Unlike other fields of philosophy, we cannot simply agree to disagree about morality as practiced in politics. At some point, our moral values become policies that those who may not share those values must follow. The way we construct these disagreements and agreements then are vital to the continued functionality of our nation. In this essay, I will examine how John Rawls, Alasdair MacIntyre, and Jeffrey Stout construct the concept of justice and apply their thoughts to the dispute surrounding mountain top removal coal mining in Eastern Kentucky. John Rawls believes in a universally applicable, rationally generated form of justice. …

Maslahah Sebagai Satu Justifikasi Terhadap Keharusan Sambutan Maulidur Rasul Di Malaysia., Azri Bhari
Student Works (2010-2019)
The celebration of maulidur rasul has long been practised by Muslims in Malaysia although it is not associated with acts of His companions, tabi‘in and muslim scholars in the past. However, some groups claim that celebrating the maulidur rasul is related to bid‘ah and this caused a prolonged emergence of polemic among Muslims up till now. Each of them has respectively used his own arguments based on the understanding brought by a particular group. This scenario requires a specific research involving the use of special instruments contained in the usul al-fiqh, that is, maslahah, as the real justification in assessing …

Positive Account Of Protention And Its Implications For Internal Time-Consciousness, Neal Deroo

One of fifteen original essays by an international team of expert contributors that together represent a cross-section of Husserl Studies today. The collection manifests the extent to which single themes in Husserl's corpus cannot be isolated, but must be considered in relation to their overlap with each other. Many of the accepted views of Husserl's philosophy are currently in a state of flux, with positions that once seemed incontestable now finding themselves relegated to the status of one particular school of thought.
In this chapter, DeRoo sheds light upon one area of phenomenology, which is Edmund Husserl's positive account of …

This study is an effort to clarify the discipline needed in valuing the recitation of a hadith. Prime focus is directed specially towards those hadiths of which their trustworthiness has been repudiated and whose origin traceable to the Prophet p.b.u.h has been rejected. In addition, this study will also clarify all related terminologies used as a yard-stick to provide reasons why the recitation of a hadith is considered weak and unacceptable. The writer uses the “library-research”method when compiling informations and then analysing those informations by giving his support or criticising on any views being presented. Focus exposition and explanation on …

Beyond Belief: Japanese Approaches To The Meaning Of Religion, James Mark Shields
Beyond Belief: Japanese Approaches To The Meaning Of Religion, James Mark Shields
Faculty Journal Articles
For several centuries, Japanese scholars have argued that their nation’s culture—including its language, religion and ways of thinking—is somehow unique. The darker side of this rhetoric, sometimes known by the English term “Japanism” (nihon-jinron), played no small role in the nationalist fervor of the late-nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. While much of the so-called “ideology of Japanese uniqueness” can be dismissed, in terms of the Japanese approach to “religion,” there may be something to it. This paper highlights some distinctive—if not entirely unique—features of the way religion has been categorized and understood in Japanese tradition, contrasting these with Western (i.e., …

A Historical-Contextual Analysis Of The Final-Generation Theology Of M. L. Andreasen, Paul M. Evans
A Historical-Contextual Analysis Of The Final-Generation Theology Of M. L. Andreasen, Paul M. Evans
Dissertations
Topic
This study analyzes the teaching of the early twentieth-century Seventh-day Adventist writer M. L. Andreasen regarding a final-generation perfection that vindicates God in the great controversy between good and evil, comparing Andreasen’s views with related concepts in the writings of previous Adventist writers.
Purpose
The study has the limited objective of attempting to trace possible antecedents for Andreasen’s final-generation theology in the writings of other Adventists, in order to determine the degree of uniqueness or variance in Andreasen’s views. By means of this historical-contextual analysis, relationships are clarified between Andreasen’s views and those of other prominent Adventist writers, such …

Evaluation Of The Formal And Informal Curricula Of The North American Division Evangelism Institute, Calvin Novaraj Joshua
Dissertations
Purpose. The purpose of this study was to conduct a formal program evaluation of the North American Division Evangelism Institute (NADEI). The goal of NADEI is to equip pastors and laity for ministry. It developed over 30 years, and has presented formal and informal educational programs during that time. This helped it emerge as an indispensable unit in the North American Division (NAD), Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary (SDATS), and Andrews University (AU). However, the programs of NADEI had not been evaluated.
Method. This study followed an Evaluative Case Study Design to evaluate the formal and informal programs of NADEI. Formal …
