Theology Of The Divine Call And Intentional Interim Ministry In The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, John Reek

This study will first survey the development of interim ministry and its purpose and use in congregations. Second, this study will review the Lutheran Confessions regarding the call to the Office of the Holy Ministry and the implications for interim ministry. In order to hone our understanding, Luther's writings will also be examined. Pertinent to understanding what was confessed by the Reformers is what was practiced by the Reformers; therefore, the history of two important pastors and one exemplary situation of the Reformation era will be examined. In this essay I will consider the biblical pneumatology of George T. Montague and C. F. D. Moule relative to three topic areas-the ethic of Christian life as inspired and formed by the Holy Spirit the role of individual and community discernment concerning apparent manifestations of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit as a sign of the "future present" and pledge of the fulfillment of the already begun but not yet completed coming of the kingdom of God. Review Of Light In A Burning-Glass: The Theological Witness Of Austin Farrer, Robert B. Slocum

Austin Farrer (1904-1968) was an Oxford don who has been described as "the greatest Anglican thinker of his generation."1 The son of a Baptist minister, he was trained at St. Paul's School, London, and Balliol College, Oxford. After ordination as a priest in the Church of England and brief service in a Yorkshire parish, he returned to Oxford, where he served as chaplain and tutor at St. Edmund Hall from 1931 to 1935, as fellow and chaplain at Trinity College from 1935 until 1960, and as warden of Keble College from 1960 until his untimely death in 1968.
