This dissertation explored the impact of Black traditional church upbringing on the sexual and religious identity development, including the subsequent mental health risk, for Black assigned female at birth (AFAB) LGBQ+ individuals. Studies conducted on Black AFAB LGBQ+ individuals are limited, especially in terms of assessing their experiences in sexual identity development based on religious upbringings. Studies have overlooked the experience of LGBQ+ Black AFAB individuals navigating sexual orientation development and religious and racial identities. This article examines a pervasive yet often overlooked form of abuse against women: the lifelong regulation of bodily size and shape. While acknowledging the horrific rise in domestic physical violence during the United Kingdom’s lockdown, the focus shifts to the normalized pressures of patriarchal control that women internalize from an early age. Such control disguises itself as concern or benefit, yet inflicts profound personal and spiritual harm. Approaching the issue from a Western perspective, the article argues that, within an incarnational faith, the disciplined body becomes the very site of resistance where transformative divine power is located in human experience.

This essay offers an interpretive reading of Hugo Córdova Quero’s theological work from a third-person perspective, avoiding a laudatory or autobiographical tone. Based on queer and decolonial Trinitarian theology, the text traces a path that articulates biblical hermeneutics, migration studies, popular culture, queer theory, and pastoral praxis. The work is read as a relational and pilgrimage project. In this difference, displacement, and violated bodies do not constitute a theological problem, but rather an epistemic place from which to rethink the sacred, community, and justice.

This essay proposes to queer biblical hermeneutics as a critical theological intervention that is not limited to the creative rereading of texts, but questions the epistemic and political conditions that regulate interpretation. From a situated and embodied perspective, it affirms that queer bodies and lives do not constitute a pastoral or doctrinal problem, but rather an epistemological place from which to rethink the sacred, authority, and community. In dialogue with Spanish-speaking ecclesial and academic contexts, the analysis is presented as a rigorous and vital intervention that opens fissures, disrupts consensus, and vindicates hermeneutical plurality as theological power.

This article proposes that —in risk contexts marked by institutional violence and religious exclusion— anonymity is not absence but a radical spiritual and political practice. Adopting pseudonyms, masks, or disguises is interpreted as a form of faith in life, pleasure, and community. These strategies subvert binaries between truth and falsehood, authenticity and disguise, proposing a queer ethics of presence. The analysis focuses on pride marches as rites of passage where anonymity is re-signified as collective consecration: the street becomes a temple, the disguise a sacrament, and the mask a spiritual icon.

This article interprets «pure love» in A Short and Easy Method of Prayer and Guyon’s autobiography, drawing on Marcella Althaus Reid’s Indecent Theology and the ecofeminist insights of Ivone Gebara. It recognizes and affirms the transformative power of bodies that resist normativity, question theological certainties, and insist on living queer spiritualities as acts of embodied justice and subversion from the margins.

This article reflects on the historical participation of diverse sex-generic people throughout the history of Christian churches. From biblical times to the present, various forms of leadership have been evident. Despite their active presence, cis-heteropatriarchal leaderships have favored structures of oppression, reproducing dynamics of exclusion. Emerging communities embody a living resistance that calls for democratizing faith and recovering the fundamental values of the Gospel, as well as rethinking modes of inclusion. These new forms of spirituality, often mediated by technologies and virtual spaces, open pathways toward more inclusive, just, and diverse churches.

The evolution of liturgy, preaching, and religious architecture has accompanied the officialization of Christianity, giving rise to complex buildings and artistic expressions, such as basilicas. This process, though historically met with resistance, continues to this day and becomes especially relevant from queer perspectives. The article highlights the importance of the arts — music, theater, dance, poetry, and visual arts — in liturgy and preaching, not merely as embellishment, but as vehicles for opening up new spiritual languages. These queer liturgical practices affirm marginalized LGBTIQ+ identities and heal historical memories, engaging with their realities and struggles.

This article examines how the Radical Reformation movement — although it did not transform gender roles or acknowledge dissident sexualities — left a living theological legacy in inclusive practices and critical theologies that continue to sustain emancipatory struggles today. Through an analysis of the feudal context, peasant revolts, and the tensions between moral control and embodied spirituality, the article explores how gender and sexuality were regulated, repressed, or re-signified. The analysis recovers historical, theological, and mystical elements which —when read through feminist and queer lenses— open new paths for rethinking faith through justice, autonomy, and bodily dignity.

This essay explores the dissonance experienced by a gay man living with hiv/ aids when confronting Christian sacramental theologies—particularly Communion—in a context where ingesting blood and body is symbolically central yet practically discouraged. Drawing on personal experience and ancestral metaphors of mining, the author reimagines Eucharistic traditions (Memorial, Consubstantiation, Transubstantiation) as rich theological «ore» to be mined and refined. Through a queer lens, Communion becomes a resource for rethinking the spiritual, sexual, and political lives of gay men. Rather than repairing doctrine, the piece invites a queer excavation of meaning, seeking what sacred resonance these practices may still hold.

The article addresses the queer experience of the «via crucis» in contrast to the traditional narrative. It does so by exploring how gender identity and sexual orientation influence imposed crossings and social exclusion. Through the phenomenon of cruising, the examination of the stations of the cross reveal the segregation and the search for connection in the queer community. Queer feminist theology emerges as a hybridization of corporeal experiences subjected to diverse mechanisms of control over life, body, and sexuality. This process of theologization questions the approach traditionally centered on cis- heteropatriarchal values, evidencing that classical theologies participate in the bio-technologies of reproduction of the body, gender, and sexuality. It highlights the historical influence of all theology in the construction of cis-heterocentered, patriarchalized and racialized bodies. The article proposes to (re)consider «adamacy» in order to rescue the difference of gender and sexuality present in sacred texts, thus liberating bodies from cis-heteronormative closets.

This article proposes constructing the socio-analytical mediation of Mark 3.20-21, using the concepts of disciplinary society, pastoral power, and marginality to recreate its context. From a queer perspective, the system of home and family, places determined by the cis-heteropatriarchal system, is critiqued. It highlights that Jesus —challenging power dynamics— proposes a family and lifestyle from marginality. Although labeled as «queer» —in the sense of «odd» or «deviant»— I affirm that Jesus —with alternative masculinity— subverts the cis-heteropatriarchal project of domination. The analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of Mark 3.20-21 from a queer hermeneutical lens.

This article seeks to explore critical notions for developing a queer incarnational theology perspective. It begins by examining the concepts of «freedom» and «clandestinity» and then moves into the posthuman question, drawing on ecological feminism and queer/cuir theologies. In the final section, ideas are outlined that contribute to a queer incarnational theology, recovering the prophetic sense of the Gospel. This approach integrates freedom from a queer/ cuir perspective into a theological framework that resonates with human diversity and embraces the interconnectedness of all forms of life, challenging oppressive structures and recognizing the prophetic vitality of the Gospel.

I begin by examining Jaroslav Pelikan’s proposal in the first volume of his collection, Christian Tradition: A History of the Development of Doctrine, to explore Marcella Althaus-Reid’s legacy later. I focus on Althaus-Reid’s contribution to a queer Christian experience; hers is a rich proposal to theological thinking that invites us to a radical hermeneutical change. In this article, I distance myself from the chrono-normativity of time frameworks traditionally deployed to understand and analyze history. Instead, I inquire into the jagged lines of history. My focus lies specifically on the medieval period, and I seek to queer traditional interpretations of this era by posing indecent and uncomfortable questions. This inquiry can potentially bring medievalist work out of the theo(ideo)logical closet. This article explores the issues concerning the intersection of spirituality, sacramentality, proximity, and health safety in light of extreme circumstances such as the current COVID-19 pandemic. We begin by tracing the origins of the sacrament of the Eucharist, including the Eucharistic agency in the lives of the community. The second part of the analysis discusses the nature of community and how it relates to breaking bread and sharing wine. The last part of the article centers on community practice within the context of queering ecclesiology and rites through two examples, one in Latin America and the other in Asia.

Generally, religion has served as a method of creating a unique identity and history for many groups across history. This concept is especially true for the Sikh community, to the point that they have carved their own niche across the different places they inhabit in the world, whether that be their homeland of Panjab or their extensive population in places like Canada or the United Kingdom. However, this expansion and development of their culture did not come without a cost, formed through countless battles, martyrdom, and revolutions. It is assumed within both degrowth literature and the social teaching of the Roman Catholic Church (CST) that socio-economic transitions and transformations are needed due to the failings of the dominant capitalist paradigm. Both bodies of thought engage with issues of socio-economic transitions by considering what constitutes globally just development, and by outlining key principles they espouse to be foundational to global justice. By highlighting these principles, and locating the affinities between the two, these theories of socio-economic development can benefit from engaging with the other’s promoted framework. This article looks at the trajectory of queer theologies, especially highlighting the challenges and opportunities they offer to the Christian tradition. It examines the way in which a queer eye on doctrine and church history yields different perspectives. These benefit the LGBTIQ+ community and the whole Christian community through deepening and broadening our understanding of the incarnate divine. While acknowledging the existence of a fluid rupturing core in Christianity —a queerness that begs for its embracing— the analysis concludes that Incarnation and queer theory are splendid passionate and risk compelling companions towards the deconstruction of Christ.

Viajes Sagrados: Una Lectura Desde Las TeologíAs Queer De La PelíCula Santitos De Alejandro Springall, Hugo Córdova Quero

This article analyzes immigrants’ genderized and sexualized experiences intermingling with theological discourses by exploring the film Santitos [little saints]. Queer theory and queer/indecent theologies provide theoretical tools to interrogate those experiences in the movie. The analysis explores how religious institutions have traditionally denied the intersectionality of gender/sexuality and religion/theology that bind up the everyday lives of the faithful. Thus, it explores alternatives to view those issues from a perspective that could still be considered «Christian.» Furthermore, it contributes to a perspective that could enforce and promote the spiritual growth of the faithful amidst situations of migration and sexual work.

Inclusive churches propose to explore a path of revision and adaptation of queer faith in our Global South contexts. The way initiated is promising, and indeed the inclusive churches —together with queer theologians and their allies— are setting a course towards adapting Christianity to people's contexts instead of the traditional way of adapting contexts to Christian faith.
