Ethics As Grammar: Changing The Postmodern Subject, Brad Kallenberg
Ethics As Grammar: Changing The Postmodern Subject, Brad Kallenberg
Theology and Religious Studies Faculty Publications
Wittgenstein, one of the most influential, and yet widely misunderstood, philosophers of our age, confronted his readers with aporias—linguistic puzzles—as a means of countering modern philosophical confusions over the nature of language without replicating the same confusions in his own writings. In Ethics as Grammar, Brad Kallenberg uses the writings of theological ethicist Stanley Hauerwas as a foil for demonstrating how Wittgenstein’s method can become concrete within the Christian tradition. Kallenberg shows that the aesthetic, political, and grammatical strands epitomizing Hauerwas’s thought are the result of his learning to do Christian ethics by thinking through Wittgenstein.
Kallenberg argues that …

The Passover Of Christ: 'Do [You] This In Remembrance Of Me.' A Systematic Description Of Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Anabaptist, And Lutheran Theology And Ethics, Oscar Carvajal Romero
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
As a way of abstract, this paper presents a study of the last meal performed by Jesus with his disciples before his death and its commandment. With a systematic approach and a descriptive style, it explores the theological and ethical positions given by four Christian traditions: namely, Orthodox, Roman Catholic. Anabaptist, and Lutheran, to Jesus’ commandment: “Do [you] this in remembrance of me." The thesis in this paper has four parts, first, that the command has four aspects: subjective, objective, subjunctive, and genitive. Second, that each Christian tradition named above have emphasized one aspect over the others arriving to different …

Syeikh Muhammad Al-Ghazali : Pemikirannya Dalam Buku Kayfa Nata'amal Ma'a Al-Qur'an, Mohd. Rumaizuddin Ghazali
Student Works (2000-2009)
This dissertation is about Muhammad al-Ghazali's (1917-1996) thoughts in his book Kayfa Nata'amal Ma'a al-Qur'an. This book tells about the ways how to interact with al-Qur'an correctly, the causes of ummah's backwardness and the ways how to overcome the thought crisis of the ummah today. The writer was attracted by al-Ghazali's thought stating that al-Qur'an is the most important factor in building the Islamic community nowadays. Although al-Qur'an was revealed since 14 centuries ago, but its contents are still relevant and very practical. This means that al-Qur'an is always relevant from time to time according to the interaction of ummah …

Eros And Transgression In An Age Of Immanence: Georges Bataille’S (Religious) Critique Of Kinsey, James Mark Shields
Eros And Transgression In An Age Of Immanence: Georges Bataille’S (Religious) Critique Of Kinsey, James Mark Shields
Faculty Journal Articles
This paper explores the religious implications of eroticism in Western culture since the Sexual Revolution, a period at once applauded for its open and immanent view of sexuality and denounced for its shamelessness and promiscuity. After discussing the work and effects of Alfred C. Kinsey, the father of the Sexual Revolution, I focus on a critical appraisal of Kinsey written by French theorist Georges Bataille (“Kinsey, the Underworld and Work,” in L’Erotisme, 1957). Bataille situates contemporary Western sexuality within a larger historical movement towards the “desacralization” of all aspects of human life: sex, under the scientific gaze of the Kinsey …
