Toward A Theology Of Youth Ministry And Its Praxis In The Local Church, Luis Fernando Ortiz
Toward A Theology Of Youth Ministry And Its Praxis In The Local Church, Luis Fernando Ortiz
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
In many Seventh-day Adventist churches in North America patterns of non involvement among the youth were observed. Young people were attending church on Sabbath, but almost none of them were leaders. The objective of this dissertation was to identify biblical principles for the development of a youth ministry in which leaders build responsible servant leaders and encourage young people to grow, learn, and use their gifts in Christian ministry.
Method
The Scriptures were searched for a biblical background for youth work and principles for successful youth involvement. The word “youth” was analyzed in the Old and New Testaments together …
A Theology And Structure For Multiple Ministry In A Large Lutheran Church, Perryville, Mo, Donald Loesch
A Theology And Structure For Multiple Ministry In A Large Lutheran Church, Perryville, Mo, Donald Loesch
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
How can a staff of multiple ministers in a large Lutheran church be organised in a way that is harmonious with the Biblical doctrine of the office of pastor? First, key Scripture passages and Lutheran writings on the pastoral office were studied; second, a congregational survey gleaned thoughtful opinions from parishioners; and third, information was obtained from experts on multiple ministry in other growing churches. A mediating view of the pastoral office both preserves the uniqueness of the office and allows for ministers, ordained and unordained, generalist and specialist, to share the office. A congregational handbook is offered as a …
The Indirect Method Of Preaching, John Davidson
The Indirect Method Of Preaching, John Davidson
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
The Indirect Method: A study of the potential effectiveness of the indirect method of preaching. The study examines the Biblical and practical components of the indirect method. A sample sermon is presented together with an evaluation of the sermon by selected members of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lancaster, Ohio. The evaluation will measure the method's effectiveness in the proclamation of Law and Gospel from a Lutheran context. The proclamation of the Law exposes the hearer's sinfulness and need of a Savior. The proclamation of the Gospel reveals Jesus Christ as Savior and offers forgiveness and salvation to all who believe in …
A Training Program For Grief Ministry For Singapore Seventh-Day Adventist Pastors, Chor Kiat Sim
A Training Program For Grief Ministry For Singapore Seventh-Day Adventist Pastors, Chor Kiat Sim
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Many Seventh-day Adventist church pastors in Singapore are not trained in grief ministry. This results in some pastors who are insensitive to the grieving. Consequently, theirs and many church members' grief has been unresolved. This study was undertaken to develop a holistic pastoral perspective regarding grief and to compose a training program in grief ministry that will help pastors understand their own grief dynamics and that of their parishioners.
Method
This project attempts to present the principles of grief ministry through the following dimensions: (1) Singapore's need of grief ministry in the midst of socioeconomic development; (2) the study …
Effective Leadership In Small Group Ministry Through The Application Of Family Systems, James Knill
Effective Leadership In Small Group Ministry Through The Application Of Family Systems, James Knill
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
The premise of this project is that small group leaders can become more effective and caring through the application of family systems theory, specifically Bowenian theory, to the leadership process. The author developed a four-part training manual that provides a general orientation to family systems thinking for group leaders, with a specific focus on self-differentiation, homeostasis or balance, and emotional triangles. All leaders indicated improved ability to work with groups and in other settings as self-differentiated persons, though some wanted to understand the concepts more completely. All felt they were more effective leaders following the training process.
Marriage Beyond Hierarchy-How To Keep Building A Better Partnership Marriage, George Zoebl
Marriage Beyond Hierarchy-How To Keep Building A Better Partnership Marriage, George Zoebl
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
The debate over the statue of women represents a large clash between venerable religious beliefs and social movements that have affected the understanding of what a "true Biblical marriage” should be. This paper explores "Marriage Beyond Hierarchy...How To Keep Building a Partnership Marriage."
Chapter one deals with an exegetical study of Ephesians 6:22-33, I Peter 3:1-7, I Corinthians 7 and looks at the Lutheran Confessions and what they say about marriage, roles, responsibilities, submission and headship. Chapter two examines the "chain of command" model of marriage in comparison with the "equal partnership" model. Finally, chapter throe presents a method for …
A Systemic View Of Collaborative Leadership-A Partnership Of Joy, Dale Kleimola
A Systemic View Of Collaborative Leadership-A Partnership Of Joy, Dale Kleimola
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
This Major Applied Project (MAP) recognizes the relationship between the office of the public ministry and the priesthood of all believers. The thesis is that ministry is enhanced, and joy grows when the partnership between pastor and people is appreciated and celebrated.
To accomplish this goal, the project looks at the doctrine of church and ministry, as understood by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and applies to it, systems theory.
Recognizing the need for a paradigm shift in understanding church and ministry, the MAP looks at church and ministry from two systemic view points: the church as a complex organizational …
Designing A Member Development Process For Our Redeemer Lutheran Church In Delavan, Wisconsin, David Lieske
Designing A Member Development Process For Our Redeemer Lutheran Church In Delavan, Wisconsin, David Lieske
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
There is a need for having more Christians active in building Christ's church. The procedure was to design a process to encourage more people to be active. There was a survey of needs and a personal study of leadership that equips. A small group Bible study was designed and taught to teach the priesthood of all believers, to help people discover spiritual gifts, and to learn personality type. Fifteen people participated in the Bible study. Awareness was increased. An organizational system was designed for helping people begin to serve. Implementation and revision of the process are ongoing.
"The Use Of Training In Advanced Pastoral Counseling For Increased Competency For Pastoral Counseling For Increased Competency For Pastoral Care At Lakeside Lutheran Church, Venice, Florida,", Randy Winkel
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
This Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project explores the role of the pastor as counselor and traces the development of family therapy. The "family as the patient" emphasis is explained, and contrasted with the more traditional psychoanalytical approaches that center on the individual. Specific case studies are presented which illustrate the application of system theory. The author relates his experience in a counseling practicum and his subsequent growth and development as a pastoral counselor.
The Use Of Lament In Pastoral Care: Exploring Its Use With Those Working Through The Loss Of A Child, Cornelius J. Deboer
The Use Of Lament In Pastoral Care: Exploring Its Use With Those Working Through The Loss Of A Child, Cornelius J. Deboer
CTS Master of Theology (ThM) Theses
The general purpose of the thesis is to reintroduce an ancient Jewish/Christian tradition of lamenting which taps the anger and inappropriateness of death, destruction, and injustice. This ancient tradition has been lacking and has not been readily encouraged in the Christian community, even though lamenting can easily be understood as a vital part of our relationship with a covenantal God.
More specifically the thesis describes ministry to bereaved parents, and the important place of lament in this ministry. Although the psalms of lament are set forth as the main model, other creative avenues of lamenting are explored. Some prayers and …
Communication Principles In Pastoral Counseling, Dieter Joel Jagnow
Communication Principles In Pastoral Counseling, Dieter Joel Jagnow
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
There are many elements involved in a pastoral counseling process. A handbook would include all or some topics such as a definition of pastoral counseling, its distinctive nature, its objectives, counseling techniques, and the role of God's Word in the process. In this thesis we will touch some of the basic topics of pastoral counseling. However, the main purpose is to approach an important ingredient of pastoral counseling that usually is not included as a separate topic in counseling manuals, that is, communication, particularly interpersonal communication.
This study intends to explore the pastoral counseling process as an interpersonal communication process …

Pastoral Premarital Counseling In A Campus Ministry Setting-Wittenberg Lutheran Chapel, University Of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota, Lindsay Watkins
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
The goal of this Major Applied Project was to submit, articulate, and elucidate at least ten specific objectives for pastoral premarital counseling in the campus ministry setting of Wittenberg Lutheran Chapel, the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota, and to present a process to achieve those objectives. Four components, a "Survey of Christian Married Adults," a "Survey of Christian Singles," a study of the Scriptural teachings regarding marriage, and a study of family therapy, psychological, and counseling resources furnished the specific objectives for pastoral premarital counseling. Thirteen specific objectives and a process to achieve those thirteen objectives resulted.

Administrating Ministry: The Use Of Strategic Planning And Management In A Ministry Setting, Paul Metzler
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
"ADMINISTRATING MINISTRY:The Use of Strategic Planning and Managementin a Ministry Setting"This project explores strategic planning and management (SPM) as an administrative theory which can enable effective ministry. Derived from the world of corporate business management, the SPM model is defined as a disciplined effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions that guide what an organization is, does, and how it plans its future. Examination of key biblical understandings of leadership and administration, as well as SPM's underlying assumptions, support its theological appropriateness. The use of SPM in the setting of theGordon D. Hoople Institute of the Onondaga Pastoral Counseling Center …

Persuasion In The Art Of Preaching For The Church, William Matzat
Persuasion In The Art Of Preaching For The Church, William Matzat
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
Throughout the following pages three major themes will be interwoven with the aspects of the preaching ministry mentioned above. The themes are pastoral in nature and have been formulated over many years in the parish ministry. In some ways, they are similar to the themes indicated in an isogogical study of a Scriptural text, as one studies (1) the addressees, (2) the content of the message, and (3) the approach or style of the writer. In a similar way, this paper will study the proclamation of the Word in relation to (1) the hearers, (2) the content of the message, …

Formation And Development Of Caring Ministries Based On Neighboring Evangelism Model Model, Lloyd I. Munson
Formation And Development Of Caring Ministries Based On Neighboring Evangelism Model Model, Lloyd I. Munson
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
For more than a decade leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church have encouraged various programs under the slogan "caring Church." This new and welcome concept and its corresponding "caring ministries" are in tension with traditional programs and philosophy of lay ministry. There is a need to clarify and articulate the underlying shift toward a more "relational" approach so that truly "caring" ministries may emerge. In addition there is a confusion from the local Church all the way to the General Conference as to how various departments are coordinated.
Method
This study documents one attempt to articulate a biblical concept …
A Program For "Caring Church Ministry" In The Eugene, Oregon, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Robert L. Heisler
A Program For "Caring Church Ministry" In The Eugene, Oregon, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Robert L. Heisler
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Caring Church Ministry is a strategy for church growth which was developed by the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists. How that strategy might be implemented in the Eugene Seventh-day Adventist Church was the basic concern of this research project. How theology and management philosophy inform a caring church membership, how to implement a program involving the church membership, and dynamics of that church which favored or inhibited church growth were questions that had to be addressed.
Method
A theological investigation and an examination of contemporary concepts of caring in management literature form a basis for the study. Two …
A Study Of Productivity In Ministry As Related To South America Division, Itamar Sabino De Paiva
A Study Of Productivity In Ministry As Related To South America Division, Itamar Sabino De Paiva
Doctor of Ministry Projects
This study is concerned with the attributes of the ministry as depicted in the Bible and the writings of Ellen G. White as well as with an evaluation of ministerial productivity in selected unions of the South American Division (SAD). Those who have dealt with the problem of evaluation have focused mainly on the numerical achievements or quantitative aspects of ministerial productivity. Although evaluation of qualitative characteristics may be more difficult than that of quantitative characteristics, failure to include both aspects of the minister's work may well result in an inaccurate and unbalanced profile of his accomplishments. Consequently, there is …
An Exploration Of The Needs Of, And Possibilities Of Ministry To, Geographically Isolated Seventh-Day Adventists, Thomas Hunter Ludowici
An Exploration Of The Needs Of, And Possibilities Of Ministry To, Geographically Isolated Seventh-Day Adventists, Thomas Hunter Ludowici
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
There are some Seventh-day Adventist Church members who, because of mileage distance or other geographic reason, are unable to attend a local church regularly, and whose membership is listed on the conference church roll. If the church is to minister to all its members, this segment cannot be ignored. The geographically isolated members have received very little pastoral nurture, and they have experienced only limited fellowship. As a result, generally they have maintained a weakened connection with the church at large. Because the seventh- day Sabbath is a central aspect of belief and worship practice, it is meaningful for …
An Analysis Of The Role And Functions Expected Of A Seventh-Day Adventist Pastor: As A Basis For Negotiating An Intentional Ministry, Victor Ralph Brown
An Analysis Of The Role And Functions Expected Of A Seventh-Day Adventist Pastor: As A Basis For Negotiating An Intentional Ministry, Victor Ralph Brown
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Since its organization in 1863, the Seventh-day Adventist denomination has grown from a small group to a significant religious movement in the world today. Originally all ministers in the church were evangelists. There were to be no "settled" pastors of local congregations. Local churches relied upon local talent selected from their own ranks for pastoral leadership. The change created by increased numbers and the demands of the laity has meant the role of the ordained minister in the local Seventh-day Adventist church has been considerably altered from its original concept. This has caused many to be confused as to just …
