Doctor of Ministry Projects

The purpose of this project has been to develop and implement a marital communication seminar to improve the communication abilities of the married couples of the Hispanic Adventist Church in Paterson, New Jersey. Effective communication is a fundamental instrument needed to establish a healthy marital relationship. A healthy marital relationship has a very positive impact on family life, church fellowship, and society. Studies have demonstrated that spouses with good communication skills enjoy healthier and happier marriages and resolve their conflicts better. Therefore, it should be a primary objective to improve marital communication. Hence arises the reason for implementing a marital …

Strengthening Young Adult Chinese Adventists In Malaysia In Christian Living, Yat Yau Ang Jan 2007

Strengthening Young Adult Chinese Adventists In Malaysia In Christian Living, Yat Yau Ang

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Progress of the gospel work among the Chinese in Malaysia has been slow. Church growth is insignificant. An important asset of the church—the young people— could be a driving force for church growth. Church leaders need to start a pilot training program catered to the needs of young people, especially helping them to grow in various aspects of their lives, and equipping them to do God’s work.

Method

An ethnographic approach will be used to review current literature including books, articles, interviews, and questionnaires. For the benefit of the Project Director, the Malaysian culture and the needs of young …

The Shaping Of Things Now: Questions Of Emerging Churches, Darren Cronshaw Jan 2007

The Shaping Of Things Now: Questions Of Emerging Churches, Darren Cronshaw

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

The term ‘emerging church’ has been hotly debated. Some mainstream churches say ‘what are you doing that we are not?’ and some emerging churches resent the implication that they are still ‘emerging’ into being a real church. 3 But ‘emerging’ describes something that is changing and evolving rather than fixed in one place. The label recognizes that such churches are emerging from a modern into a postmodern framework, in a post-Christendom era, in a digital age, for a post-colonial era. Interestingly, it is a term that has been used to describe the early church in the first century, since that …

The Root And The Flower: Siddur For Hebrew-Adventist Congregations, Jacques B. Doukhan Jan 2007

The Root And The Flower: Siddur For Hebrew-Adventist Congregations, Jacques B. Doukhan

All Books

Why a Hebrew-Adventist Service?

To offer a special worship experience that combines the joyfulness and reverence, and the sense of community of the Hebrew tradition, with our distinctive Adventist identity.

To help Christians in general, and Seventh-day Adventists in particular, recover their Hebrew roots and enrich their emotional, intellectual, and physical adoration.

To create a spiritual and liturgical environment where Jews as well as Christians can worship the same God of Israel—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who also was the God of Peter, John, and Paul—thereby relieving and transcending the Jewish-Christian tension.

Equipping And Mobilizing The Laity In The New York Luso-Brazilian Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Gerson P. Santos Jan 2007

Equipping And Mobilizing The Laity In The New York Luso-Brazilian Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Gerson P. Santos

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

The New York Luso-Brazilian congregation was organized on October 23, 1971, with approximately ten members. By December 2005, its membership was 329, including two new congregations formed recently. In spite of the growth during the first two or three decades, this church has not experienced much growth in the last ten years. Many members are not committed to the Great Commission. Only ten percent participate in some kind of outreach. Analyzing the profile of this church, it was verified that the growth came mainly through immigration. One of the main challenges, therefore, is to involve the laity in missionary …

The Notion Of Healing In The Therapeutic Work Of Georeg Freemesser And Steve De Shazer: A Comparison, Mary Marrocco Jan 2007

The Notion Of Healing In The Therapeutic Work Of Georeg Freemesser And Steve De Shazer: A Comparison, Mary Marrocco

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

George Freemesser and Steve de Shazer have several strong commonalities in their understandings of healing; both can be situated within the framework of pastoral counselling. Because for Freemesser the therapist’s person is an important dimension of healing, I begin with his biography, then my view of healing. To provide the pastoral counselling framework, I review the thought of Pilch, Clebsch and Jaekle, and Rovers. Steve de Shazer’s view of healing is then discussed, though he does not employ the term, by misunderstanding his notion of the goal of therapy as healing. Freemesser’s understanding of healing is described, and finally a …
