Moving From Church Growth To Kingdom Growth, Reggie Mcneal
Moving From Church Growth To Kingdom Growth, Reggie Mcneal
Journal of the American Society for Church Growth
This article examines the shift from church growth to kingdom growth. It includes some theological reflection on the mission of the church and the kingdom of God. We take a look at some demographic challenges of the kingdom era, largely as it relates to globalization and urbanization in a global context. We also note some of the shifts that church leaders must make, from perspectives to behaviors to ministry scorecard redesign.

Toward Better Hearing Of The Word In The Sermon, Darrell Zimmerman
Toward Better Hearing Of The Word In The Sermon, Darrell Zimmerman
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
The purpose of this project was to equip some members of the congregation to be discerning receivers of the sermon by improving their active and intentional listening capabilities. The methodology of the project included the development and teaching of a course of instruction on the theology and practice of preaching, a period of participant implementation, and interviews of participants in the study toward an evaluation of the project. Participant response showed a greater or lesser benefit depending on willingness and ability to apply the learnings. Recommendations for enhanced future effectiveness of the course are included.
Lutheran Day School Operation: Financial Stewardship Implications, Thomas Radtke
Lutheran Day School Operation: Financial Stewardship Implications, Thomas Radtke
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
In addressing this problem as it faces Trinity Lutheran Church, the writer will survey other schools and determine the method that each congregation uses to fund the operation of its day school. My premise from the outset is that some of these day schools use the traditional means of funding through congregational offerings while others use member tuition as a major factor in the funding of their day schools. The purpose of this exercise is to evaluate the methods used and make application to Trinity for the best method of funding their day school operation.

"So Now What?" Using The New Science To Design A Flexible And Adaptable Spiritual Growth Process For New And Returning Believers In The Local Church, Christine A. Prescott
Doctor of Ministry
This dissertation addresses the need for spiritual-growth opportunities in the local church for new adult Christians and those adults who are returning to the church after years of absence. This dissertation will identify concepts from the "new science' of quantum mechanics, chaos theory, and complexity theory to suggest elements for the creation of a flexible and adaptable spiritual-growth process.
I use the New Testament to address two assumptions of the thesis: that the spiritual growth of followers of Jesus Christ is a process of spiritual transformation that rests not a one-time conversion event but occurs over a lifetime of dynamic …
Know Thy Hearer!, William Mons
Know Thy Hearer!, William Mons
Master of Sacred Theology Seminar Papers
This seminar paper will support the thesis that in order to influence the heart of the hearer in the direction of true faith and a godly life, the preacher will need to know his hearers. This thesis will be supported through an exploration of four questions. The first question is "Why does the preacher need to know his hearers?" Under this section there will be a discussion of the preacher's call, the idea that sermons are to be appropriate to the hearers, preaching as pastoral care, the hearers as participants in the preaching task, the image of the preacher, and …

Here’S To Your Health: The Church Or The Kingdom? A Reflection For Emergent Church Leaders, Roger Helland
Here’S To Your Health: The Church Or The Kingdom? A Reflection For Emergent Church Leaders, Roger Helland
Journal of the American Society for Church Growth
A pressing question for many pastors is what will help grow their church. But perhaps this question is based on faulty assumptions flowing from faulty theology. In his book, The Present Future, Reggie McNeal discusses the shift from church growth to Kingdom growth. To him the wrong question to ask is, “How do we grow this church?” That is, how do we get them to come to us?” This question, with its set of assumptions, is based on church thinking rather than kingdom thinking. Rather, the tough question is, “How do we transform our community?” He argues that we need …
