تغيير الخلق" عِلّةً لتحريم التعديلات على الجينوم - دراسة نقدية- Change Of Human Shape As A Reason For Prohibiting Genome Modification - A Critical Study, Ayman Saleh
Jordan Journal of Islamic Studies
Many scholars of Islamic jurisprudence argue that all changes to the human form, particularly elective cosmetic surgeries, are banned because they amount to “altering God's creation.” This argument has been generalized to deem genetic modification in humans forbidden. Using the framework of Islamic jurisprudence,5 the present paper aims to refute this argument and its underlying evidence. The paper argues that genetic modifications to reproductive and non-reproductive cells are permissible in Islam, but only within the general restrictions of Islamic jurisprudence. The most significant of these restrictions is that the harm incurred by such modifications should not outweigh their benefits.

The customers measure the quality of the bank through the quality of its services. Banking services in Islamic banks are more sensitive given that Islamic banking is characterized by special risks that are clearly reflected in the concept of banking services. A Heavy Rain Has Fallen Upon My People: Sindhi Sufi Poetry Performance, Emotion, And Islamic Knowledge In Kachchh, Gujarat, Brian E. Bond
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This dissertation is a study of the use and contestation of Sindhi-language Sufi poetry performance as a means of Islamic knowledge transmission and ethical self-formation in rural Muslim communities in Kachchh, a border district in the western Indian state of Gujarat adjacent to Sindh, Pakistan. Drawing on eighteen months of ethnographic research with Muslim performers and enthusiasts of Sindhi poetry between 2014-2018, I first examine an ecology of performative and interpretive practices revolving around the musico-poetic repertoire of the poet-saint Shāh ʿAbdul Lat̤īf Bhiṭā’ī (1689-1752 CE). I argue that the pedagogical efficacy of Sufi poetry performance is undergirded by its …

Decadent Orientalisms: The Decay Of Colonial Modernity [Table Of Contents], David Fieni
Literature
Decadent Orientalisms presents a sustained critique of the ways Orientalism and decadence have formed a joint discursive mode of the imperial imagination. Attentive to historical and literary configurations of language, race, religion, and power, Fieni shows the importance of understanding Western discourses of Eastern decline and obsolescence together with Arab and Islamic responses in which the language of decadence returns as a characteristic of the West.
Taking seriously Edward Said’s claim that Orientalism is a “style of having power,” Fieni works historically through the aesthetic and ideological effects of Orientalist style, showing how it is at once comparative, descriptive, and …

Tradition As Flow: Decolonial Currents In The Muslim Atlantic, Jason Sparkes
Tradition As Flow: Decolonial Currents In The Muslim Atlantic, Jason Sparkes
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
This study contributes a decolonial critique of the world-system from the longue durée perspective of the Muslim Atlantic. It connects contemporary Traditionalist Islamic discourse in North America to human networks developed since the long sixteenth century. Traditionalist Islam can be described as a discourse about traditional Islam. Genealogically, it draws upon many sources. Two important ones are (1) the oeuvre of French metaphysician and Sufi René Guénon, and (2) the Shâdhilî school of Sufism born in North Africa. Traditionalist Islam distinguishes itself from what it depicts as fundamentalist (or Salafist) and modernist (or progressive) currents, representing two extremes of …
