Islamic thought in the works of Joesoef Sou'yb is a continuation of Islamic thought which have ever developed since the Mu'tazilite, Syeikh Muhammad bin 'Abdul Wahhab and Syeih Jamaluddin al- Afghan,, Syeikh Muhammad 'Abduh with his disciple Muhammad Rasyld Rida. This dissertation is a study on manuscript of "Kitab Ghayat al-Mar'am" by Syeikh Daud bin 'Abdullah al-Fatani which is catalogued as MSS 2838 in Malaysia National Library. It is selected on the basis that there is no study yet in great depth in the Malay Language with regard to the haj and 'umrah pilgrimage. The analysis is made using the transliteration method. In this method, the original text is rewritten in romanised Malay, where the sentences arc restructured, important words are explained, problems are examined and the sources of the prophet's sayings (hadith) and recitations of prayer (doa) are confirmed. …

"Who Is Sleeping In The Bed Of Sodom?", Nancy Levene

The question that I am left with from the extraordinary presentations over the conference's two days borrows from Rabbi Steve Greenberg's and Ludger Viefhues's discussion of the multiple images of the biblical "Sodom". Conventionally Sodom has signified a place of sexual deviance or, conversely, sexual censorship. But as Greenberg pointed out, in many traditional commentaries on the story of the condemnation of Sodom, the issue was not that the townspeople were engaged in forbidden sexual practices, but that they were violent and hostile to those in need of shelter and food.
