Jeremiah’s reproaches against God are exceptional in Old Testament prophecy. No other prophetic speaker dares to confront God so harshly and so often. The main passages considered in this article are Jer 4:10; 12:1–6; 15:15–18; 20:7–10; and 32:24–25. Jeremiah’s accusations cover a wide range of motifs: deception (נשׁא ) with false messages, a lawsuit (ריב) about the success of evildoers, unreliability (root כזב), seduction (פתה), and absurd commands. Several times God responds to his prophet—a sign that he respects Jeremiah’s complaints and tries to overcome his queries. In the last two decades, Colorado's number of Muslim Americans (citizens and permanent residents) has substantially increased (Bowen, 2009a; Bowen, 2009b; Mohamed, 2021; Roberts, 2022). This increase is reflected in the growing number of Islamic community centers, emerging Islamic schools, mosques, grocery stores, Muslim cuisines, and the diversity of students in the post-secondary education system (Roberts, 2022). Although centralized data about Muslim college students are hard to find, their presence within the higher education system is well-known. Contemporary film-makers quite willingly employ motifs typical of various gnostic trends. The author shows that ancient gnosticism is a treasury of motifs and a source of aesthetical and narrative strategies present in contemporary cinema. The article treats Jacob’s Ladder (1990, dir. Adrian Lyne) which is analyzed through Gnostic beliefs. In the author’s opinion, this film can be treated as a model where the gnostic thought has been presented in a coherent and systematic manner.
