Review Of Treasures Of Castilla Y León: A Cultural Season In New York, Antoni Pizà Jan 2002

Review Of Treasures Of Castilla Y León: A Cultural Season In New York, Antoni Pizà

Publications and Research

Spanish religious art tends to be theatrical in nature. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, for example, the original setting of sculpted figures invariably emulated a stage in order to create a dramatic environment in which light, smells, and sounds were controlled for effect. Just consider the religious sculptures frequently paraded in processions or the statuary placed in chapels and niche-like recesses. Or think also of the dramatic paintings that functioned almost as backdrops for what amounted to the "staging" of the Catholic liturgy. Medium and message, thus, went hand in hand, a dependence that was made even stronger …

The Development Of The Concept Of Salvation In Lutheran And Seventh-Day Adventist Parochial, Secondary-School Students, Megan G. Brown Jan 2002

The Development Of The Concept Of Salvation In Lutheran And Seventh-Day Adventist Parochial, Secondary-School Students, Megan G. Brown

Dissertations

Problem. This study took an initial look at the development of the concept of salvation in Lutheran parochial school adolescents, comparing them with Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) parochial school adolescents. This was the first study to compare denominations using the Salvation Concept Interview (SCI).

Method. This study was descriptive and comparative. The SCI was used to interview 16 Lutherans and 21 SDAs ages 15 to 18. Subjects also completed a religious activities survey and a drawing. Parents completed a survey of demographic data and personal and family religious activities. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively.

Results. The concept …

This was a difficult project to undertake for a number of reasons. First of all, for various reasons it became expeditious to self-publish, and that is a bit of a nightmare. Second, there is little in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to which it may be compared. Thus, any doctrinal comparison to pre-existing teachings might be problematic in some places. Third, my biggest fear is that this work would be seen as an accusation or an indictment of the LC–MS. It is not intended as such.Any hyperbolic moments herein are not to point a finger of blame, but to call for …

The Welcoming Congregation Movement And The Experiences Of Lesbian Women In The Christian Church, Kathryn Lynn Dykeman Jan 2002

The Welcoming Congregation Movement And The Experiences Of Lesbian Women In The Christian Church, Kathryn Lynn Dykeman

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

This research project examines the church experiences of seventeen lesbian women who were participants in at least one of the following groups: Christian Lesbians Out (CLOUT), the Brethren and Mennonite Council for Gay and Lesbian Concerns (BMC), and Olive Branch Mennonite Church. This paper noted the existence of some literature about the experience of gay men, but little was found about the experiences of lesbian women. The paper focused on the ethic of radical inclusion and avoided discussions about sexual ethics. A primary premise of the paper is that a general consensus about a sexual ethnic about homosexuality is unlikely …
