La Virgen María Y El Niño Fidencio: Un Análisis Literario Y Cultural De Figuras Veneradas, Emily Schahrer
La Virgen María Y El Niño Fidencio: Un Análisis Literario Y Cultural De Figuras Veneradas, Emily Schahrer
World Languages and Cultures Student Papers and Posters
Famous historical and literary figures who display characteristics of empathy, wisdom and compassion inspire a great sense of faith in humanity and hope for the future. There are two exemplary figures explored in this study that embody these characteristics. The first is the Virgin Mary, a saint widely known and recognized by the Catholic Church since the 4th century. The other is Niño Fidencio: a famous healer, man of God, nicknamed a “saint of the people” from Espinazo, Mexico who lived in the 20th century. Although Niño Fidencio is not officially recognized by the Catholic Church, he names the source …
Ignatian Leadership And Place-Based Learning, Rebecca Murray
Ignatian Leadership And Place-Based Learning, Rebecca Murray
Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal
In An Ignatian Method of City Dwelling (2011) John M. Staudenmaier, SJ notes that “Ignatius teaches that prayer is geographical at its core.” On his own journey of leadership, Ignatius himself learned much about the lives of others, and of himself, through the particular places he visited (often for much longer than he intended). By focusing on a specific geography, place-based community engagement can foster Ignatian leadership as it encourages faculty, staff and students to journey with a community in their own home. Because this unique way of engaging the community emphasizes depth of engagement over breadth, it is …

Padre Pio, Pandemic Saint: The Effects Of The Spanish Flu And Covid-19 On Pilgrimage And Devotion To The World’S Most Popular Saint, Michael A. Di Giovine
Padre Pio, Pandemic Saint: The Effects Of The Spanish Flu And Covid-19 On Pilgrimage And Devotion To The World’S Most Popular Saint, Michael A. Di Giovine
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
In the Catholic world, pilgrimages and other devotional rituals are often undertaken to foster healing and well-being. Thus, shrines dedicated to saints are particularly relevant in times of pandemic. Pilgrimage to the shrines associated with 20th century Italian stigmatic, St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, known as one of the Catholic world’s most popular saints, is particularly informed by this notion, as Pio is understood as a healing saint thanks to the spiritual and corporal works of mercy that marked his ministry during his lifetime, as well as belief in the miraculous nature of his relics. Pio’s hometown of Pietrelcina and …
Interdisciplinarity As A Means Of Doing Theology: Jose Mario Francisco, Jr., Sj, Phd And His Writings, Ruben C. Mendoza
Interdisciplinarity As A Means Of Doing Theology: Jose Mario Francisco, Jr., Sj, Phd And His Writings, Ruben C. Mendoza
Theology Department Faculty Publications
As a Jesuit, Jose Mario Francisco has occupied various positions in the academe as a teacher and an administrator. At the same time, he has engaged in research on various topics such as Asian theology, religious identity, Christology, literary theory, Philippine literature in English, translation, and hermeneutics. A thread that runs through his writings is his interdisciplinary approach to the subject of his inquiry. A particular interest of Francisco in his efforts to understand Filipino Catholicism is his emphasis on mission as translation which for him necessarily involves interpretation.

Reframing Joseph Cardinal Bernardin’S Consistent Ethic Of Life In The Light Of The Crisis Of Our Common Home And Pope Francis’ Integral Ecology, Anatoly Angelo R. Aseneta
Reframing Joseph Cardinal Bernardin’S Consistent Ethic Of Life In The Light Of The Crisis Of Our Common Home And Pope Francis’ Integral Ecology, Anatoly Angelo R. Aseneta
Theology Department Faculty Publications
The article is based from the a defended dissertation of the same title. As raised by Pope Francis in Laudato Si’ and as evidenced by the various ecological problems we face, the crisis of our common home harms both non-human and human life. It is becoming more evident that to consistently defend human life inevitably means caring for our common home. Joseph Cardinal Bernardin’s moral vision of a consistent ethic of life (CEL), reframed in the light of the crisis of our common home and Francis’ call for an integral ecology, provides a moral framework that inseparably links the protection …
