Within the space of two short chapters in Romans, Paul declares, “It is not the hearers of the Law who are righteous before God, rather those who do the Law shall be justified” (Rom 2:13); and, “According to our evaluation, a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the Law” (Rom 3:28).

On The Truth Of Holy Scripture, John Wyclif, Ian Christopher Levy
On The Truth Of Holy Scripture, John Wyclif, Ian Christopher Levy
TEAMS Commentary Series
Wyclif sought the restoration of an idealized past even if that meant taking revolutionary steps in the present to recover what had been lost. His 1377-78 On the Truth of Holy Scripture represents such an effort in reform: the recognition of the inherent perfection and veracity of the Sacred Page which serves as the model for daily conduct, discourse, and worship, thereby forming the foundation upon which Christendom itself is to be ordered.

Jesus The Way, The Cross, And The World According To The Gospel Of John, Craig R. Koester
Jesus The Way, The Cross, And The World According To The Gospel Of John, Craig R. Koester

According to the internal logic of John's Gospel, Jesus' claim to be "the way, the truth, and the life" is a remarkably inclusive statement, with none of the exclusive character sometimes attributed to it.
The Mythological Provenance Of Isaiah 14:12-15: A Reconsideration Of The Ugaritic Material, Michael Heiser
The Mythological Provenance Of Isaiah 14:12-15: A Reconsideration Of The Ugaritic Material, Michael Heiser
Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary (1973-2015)
Many scholars of the Hebrew Bible have postulated that the source of the taunt-song of Isa xiv 12-15 is to be found in Ugaritic religious literature Many of these scholars believe that the passage contains elements of both El and Bacal myths, an assumption that leads them to discount the proposition that all the mythological strands of Isa xiv 12-15 can be correlated with a single Ugaritic myth Still others contend that only a single myth concerning the usurpation of El can account for all of the mythological features This article disputes both of these positions, arguing that no usurpation …

Interpreting Discontinuity: Isaiah’S Tyre Oracle, R. Reed Lessing
Interpreting Discontinuity: Isaiah’S Tyre Oracle, R. Reed Lessing
Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation
What follows is an investigation that specifically explores how two of the dominant methods on prophetic discourse understand discontinuity in the prophetic texts of the OT. These are redaction and rhetorical criticism. While scholarship currently offers several different rhetorical reading strategies, the one investigated here is that which pays close attention to history. Because history plays a major role in redaction criticism as well, a central question is: What is the best historical way to read a prophetic text? Such a debate between redaction and rhetorical criticism has not yet taken place in the secondary literature.

The Death Of Postmillennialism In The Holiness Tradition Following World War I, Tiffany Enos
The Death Of Postmillennialism In The Holiness Tradition Following World War I, Tiffany Enos
Seminary Masters Theses
Millennialism is an ancient component of religion, taking shapes and forms that vary widely from culture to culture, yet sharing enough in common that historian Frederic Baumgartner can describe an end-time scenario that sounds too familiar to be a generalization, even as it slides easily into the faiths of Buddhists, Aztec Indians, Jews, Muslims, and Christians alike. 1 Over the centuries, generation after generation has found reason to believe theirs would be the last, and several millennial groups have risen with fervor and conviction, only to see the promised end time come and go, and life carry on without them. …

TEAMS Commentary Series
Apocalyptic speculation, in one form or another, is as persistent at the turn of this millennium as it was at the last. The commentaries of Haimo of Auxerre and Thietland of Einsiedeln offer glimpses of two links in [the] unbroken chain of the apocalyptic tradition.

On The Resurrection Appearances Of Jesus, Gary R. Habermas

In this essay I will evaluate Evan Fales's approach to the resurrection appearances of Jesus. His strategy is creative and lively, employing a considerably different approach from that of most contemporary scholars, hence its provocative nature.
