This study will provide the reader with an exegetical analysis of Job 31: 1-7 and 35-37which explores the presence of God in the context of human suffering. Passages found elsewhere in Job will be connected to chapter 31 to elucidate the book's storyline and major themes. Lastly, a discussion of Job's theological relevance will consider the book's significance in the wider framework of the Old and New Testaments.

The following study will provide a detailed treatment of1Co. 11:17-34 with an emphasis on lexical meaning and structural analysis. It will examine Paul's treatment in five major sections: 1) Exegesis of 11:17-19 2) Exegesis of 11:20-22, 33-343) Analysis and Critique of scholarly reconstructions of the Corinthian Eucharistic setting 4) Exegesis of 11:23-26 5)Exegesis of 11:27-32. Most genuinely informed and creative books on the Bible are written primarily for scholars and are too technical (and often too long) to be accessible to general readers. This book is the result. Here I present my own under-standing of the structure and purpose of Romans and, at the same time, provide a survey of this epistle that any educated reader can follow and that will be useful for group Bible study as well. The question that I am left with from the extraordinary presentations over the conference's two days borrows from Rabbi Steve Greenberg's and Ludger Viefhues's discussion of the multiple images of the biblical "Sodom". Conventionally Sodom has signified a place of sexual deviance or, conversely, sexual censorship. But as Greenberg pointed out, in many traditional commentaries on the story of the condemnation of Sodom, the issue was not that the townspeople were engaged in forbidden sexual practices, but that they were violent and hostile to those in need of shelter and food.

Two thousand years after the writing of Psalm 139, Andreas Vesalius (Figure 1) began to unlock the mysteries of the human body. When Vesalius was born in Brussels in 1514, no one could have foreseen that anatomy would be changed forever. During Vesalius’ time, the teachings of the Greek physician Claudius Galen (130-201 A. D.) were the ultimate authority on anatomy. Because Galen had dissected very few (if any) human cadavers, his anatomical descriptions were limited to animal dissections. Galen’s works contained many errors because his conclusions regarding human body functions were based on data obtained from nonhuman animals. Vesalius …

As women struggle for acceptance as leaders within the Christian community there is no more controversial teachings about women found in the Bible than those ofthe apostle Paul. In one breath he writes to the church in Galatians, "There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male or female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus" (Gal.3: 28 NRSV). When taken at face value this passage eliminates ethnic, social and gender barriers; in this verse Paul recognizes and addresses the dignity and worth of all humanity.

This paper purposes to examine the role and impact of the solecisms found in the Apocalypse. Before one can isolate a discussion about solecisms one must first address the issue of the style of Revelation (and, to some extent, that of the NT in general) and the degree to which Semiticisms appear. Thus, though the paper wishes to focus upon solecisms, a rather large portion of the paper will necessarily first address the whole issue of the nature and style of the Greek in Revelation so that a clear understanding of solecisms might emerge.

The question brought to the forefront is this: Is intercession proper to the prophetic office? The thesis of this study is that intercession must be understood as proper to the prophetic office. Prophetic intercession on behalf of the people is to be understood with reference to the institution and nature of the prophetic office. Isaiah's Oracle Against Philistia: An Exegetical And Historical Study Of Isaiah 14:28-32, Paul Wenz

Isaiah's oracle against Philistia in 14:28-32 presents some unique problems to the exegete. Itis the only oracle with a chronological marker in Isaiah, i.e., it is dated at King Ahaz's death (v. 28), which raises questions of authorship for some. Chapter 1 introduces Isaiah's use of “Oracles against the Nations" (OAN) and specifically how Isaiah's oracle against Philistia is a good example of the genre, yet points out some of its unique characteristics. This paper is about Christianity in Latvia in the twentieth century. The country of Latvia is located on the southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea in Northeastern Europe. Christianity was brought to this country at the end of the twelfth century. Only in the twentieth century did the Christian Church in Latvia become truly indigenous and diverse.

The Church history in Latvia began with the crusading attempts of German bishops and religious orders that brought Roman Catholicism to Latvia at the end of the twelfth century. The Catholic bishops and religious orders dominated both the ecclesiastical and political life in …
