Potential Of Institutional Zakāh Management In Socio-Economic Development Of Bangladesh, Md. Muhibur Rahman
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Islamic Economics
This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the potential of Bangladesh's institutionalized Zakāh system in driving socio-economic advancement. The research meticulously evaluates the impact of the Zakāh fund, managed by both institutional and non-institutional entities, in providing substantial financial capital and income-generating assets. It aims to draw a clear comparison between the two systems, highlighting the institutional model's ability to ensure long-term self-sufficiency, income generation, employment opportunities, and support for training and scholarships. This study employs a descriptive-analytical strategy to facilitate these comparisons. The data for the current study were obtained through comprehensive field research. A total of 385 individuals …

Social Reporting By Saudi Islamic Banks: A Longitudinal Approach, Faisal A. Otaibi
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Islamic Economics
This study aims to assess the social reporting practices of Saudi Islamic Banks (IBs) over a 15-year period. It seeks to evaluate the effectiveness with which Saudi IBs meet their social reporting expectations, including Sharīʿah disclosure requirements. A longitudinal content analysis method was utilized, underpinned by a specifically developed research instrument that is culturally relevant and reflects the unique characteristics of Islamic banking. This approach allows tracking of changes over an extended period and captures the dynamic nature of disclosure practices influenced by both internal ethical mandates and external regulatory pressures. The findings reveal a moderate disclosure rate of 51.11% …
Conceptualizing The Limits Of The Use Of Generative Ai In Economic Analysis Via A Deep Meaning Of Habs, Abderrazak Said Belabes
Conceptualizing The Limits Of The Use Of Generative Ai In Economic Analysis Via A Deep Meaning Of Habs, Abderrazak Said Belabes
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Islamic Economics
Generative AI is increasingly integrated into economic analysis by researchers, economic institutions, and companies specializing in real-time forecasting through macroeconomic intelligence. This development poses a challenge to specialists in the analysis of economic life in Muslim societies. In this research, I ask the following question to ChatGPT: What is the relationship between the Zamzam well and the Kaʿaba as ḥabs, and what are your sources? After showing the limits of the AI chatbot's response, both in terms of the answer to the question and in terms of the sources on which it claims to rely, the research explains why …
Evaluation Of Sustainability Reporting In Islamic Banks: The Case Of Albaraka Türk Participation Bank, Arzu Meriç
Evaluation Of Sustainability Reporting In Islamic Banks: The Case Of Albaraka Türk Participation Bank, Arzu Meriç
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Islamic Economics
Sustainability refers to the capacity to meet the needs of both present and future generations. Given the serious dimensions of environmental destruction, sustainability is primarily associated with environmental concerns. Organizations that pursue sustainability goals usually disclose these goals to the public via sustainability reports. The objective of this study is to assess the compliance of sustainability reports published by Islamic banks in Türkiye within the framework outlined by the Capital Markets Board. The sample for this study consists of several sustainability reports published by Albaraka Türk Participation Bank in 2019, 2020, and 2021. These reports have been selected based on …
Unveiling The Intricacies Of Shariah Governance In Islamic Financial Institutions: A Hybrid Approach, Ozair Siddiqui, Muhammad Suleman Afzal
Unveiling The Intricacies Of Shariah Governance In Islamic Financial Institutions: A Hybrid Approach, Ozair Siddiqui, Muhammad Suleman Afzal
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Islamic Economics
The study aims to explore Shariah governance literature by deploying a hybrid approach that fuses structured literature review with bibliometric analysis. The hybrid approach highlights emerging trends, influential aspects, most occurring keywords, intellectual clusters, emerging themes, and avenues for future research. Existing literature features limited coverage and overlooks some essential dimensions of Shariah governance. We bridge these gaps through two contributions: (1) we underscore previously overlooked, yet important themes like Shariah audit, compliance, and reporting; and (2) we do not impose any restrictions for time or region in our sample. Additionally, we also expand the coverage of literature by considering …

Islamic Finance Performance During Crises: A Bibliometric Mapping And A Systematic Literature Review, Amel Farhat, Amal Hili, Ibtissem Gannoun
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Islamic Economics
This study assesses the claim that Islamic finance, with its risk-sharing, low levels of indebtedness, and asset-backed characteristics, offers a viable alternative to conventional finance during crises. Through bibliometric mapping and a systematic literature review, we explore the performance of Islamic financial systems during various crises, including the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Using VOSviewer and RStudio, we analyze 555 articles from the Scopus database to identify prominent clusters in Islamic finance, particularly focusing on its resilience during crises. Our review provides theoretical evidence supporting the robustness of Islamic finance, highlighting its ethical features and its capability to safeguard investments during economic …
“Falling Short Of Our Humanity”: Shame And Queer Catholic Families, M.T. Davila
“Falling Short Of Our Humanity”: Shame And Queer Catholic Families, M.T. Davila
Religious & Theological Studies Faculty Publications
Queer Catholic Families (QCF) negotiate a complicated landscape of belonging and exclusion in the church that they love. In this dynamic, shame figures as a theological and moral qualifier of their experience when observed through the lens of the Catholic Church's teaching on sexuality and gender. Understanding how shame is experienced in these families, how it deepens a rift between families and the community, and how families find ways to nourish and preserve their links to the Church, ought to be a primary ethical and pastoral task of the Church.

The Influence Of Colonialism On The Development Of Religious Life In Timor Leste, Abdul Kadirsyam Salampessy, Rahadjeng Pulungsari Hadi
The Influence Of Colonialism On The Development Of Religious Life In Timor Leste, Abdul Kadirsyam Salampessy, Rahadjeng Pulungsari Hadi
International Review of Humanities Studies
Timor-Leste is the youngest country in the world with unique religious dynamics. The Catholic population increased rapidly after independence, while the Muslim population decreased drastically due to political dynamics. The presence of Mari Alkatiri, an Arab-descended Timorese Muslim who became Prime Minister (PM) twice, is a depiction of the presence of Islam in a Catholic-majority country. The long history of colonialism in Timor-Leste has greatly influenced the landscape of religious life there. In its development, the people of Timor-Leste live harmoniously and democratically.

Hearing The Call: The Need For An Evangelical Theology Of 'Intentional Christian Community' And Consecrated Life At Taylor University In The 21st Century, Hank Voss
Presentations
Taylor University's Life Together Covenant calls the university "a covenant community of Christians . . . intentionally joining together for academic progress, personal development, and spiritual growth." This paper presented at the 2025 Intentional Christian Communities Explorer's Gathering argues for a theological understanding of Taylor University's intentional Christian community as a consecrated Christian sodality with a specific second-order commitment, a community rule, symbolic vestiture, leadership structures, and a specific charism for the larger church.
Qualitative Thematic Analysis Of Crisis Communications From The Digital Pulpits Of Megachurches During Covid-19, Ralph Dustin Henderson
Qualitative Thematic Analysis Of Crisis Communications From The Digital Pulpits Of Megachurches During Covid-19, Ralph Dustin Henderson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative thematic analysis multi-case study was to explore how secular crisis communication theories were adopted and modified by theological themes in U.S. megachurches during the first six weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic related lockdowns. Image Repair Theory (IRT), Discourse Renewal Theory (DRT), and Rhetorical Arena Theory (RAT) were examined alongside Christian themes (Theodicy, Radical Love, Physical Care, and Nontraditional Stakeholder Scope). Thematic analysis of sermon transcripts from 18 megachurches showed that IRT modified: high-attribution tactics were minimal; denial (via IMRA theodicy) defended the Church Universal (CU); evasion justified Church Local (CL)actions; and offensiveness reduction (esp. Transcendence) …
A Review Of James P. Byrd's A Holy Baptism Of Fire And Blood: The Bible And The American Civil War, Michael Payne
A Review Of James P. Byrd's A Holy Baptism Of Fire And Blood: The Bible And The American Civil War, Michael Payne
Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History
There has been a surge in interest regarding Christianity's role in the American Civil War. James P. Byrd capitalizes on this interest in A Holy Baptism of Fire and Blood: The Bible and the American Civil War. Unlike other historians who attempt to evaluate the morality of the war itself, Byrd delves straight into how the Bible both affected and was used by both sides. He argues that the Bible saturated the Civil War, both combatants and non-combatants alike. It was the Bible that they turned to repeatedly to justify their cause and provide comfort during hardship. Byrd’s book …
An Ever-Changing Errand Into The Wilderness: The Relationship Between American Civil Religion And Exceptionalism, Blake S. Hart
An Ever-Changing Errand Into The Wilderness: The Relationship Between American Civil Religion And Exceptionalism, Blake S. Hart
Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History
This article explores the profound religious underpinnings of American exceptionalism, positing that the nation’s identity and political culture are deeply infused with a uniquely American civil religion. This civil religion is characterized by an eschatological hope that traces back to the very origins of the United States, serving as the cornerstone for its ideology and principles. American civil religion is not static but dynamic, constantly shaped by each era's major social, political, and cultural trends. It democratizes the millennial and apocalyptic visions traditionally belonging to the sacred realm, reinterpreting these religious narratives within the secular context of national destiny and …
