Rates of suicide and self-harm have been increasing in children and adolescents over the last 20 years (CDC, 2022). Suicidality and self-harm are preventable, treatable, and manageable. Parents and those who work with children, teens, and young adults are an important part in addressing this issue. This article reviews the current statistics of suicide and self-harm, role of trauma, risk-factors, causes, prevention, and treatment options. Practical tips and resources are included. The reader will better understand the phenomenon and know how self-harm and suicide can be prevented and treated.

Problem

This field research study explored the prevalence of lack of harmony among first and second-generation Dedham Seventh-day Adventist Church members. Consequently, families may be divided, and hard feelings and lost souls. Thus, a fundamental problem is an intergenerational and cultural lack of understanding.

Method

The research was a qualitative phenomenological study based on small groups and their activities. The Dedham Seventh-day Adventist Church provided a sample of 30 members, who were split into small groups of six each. งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์การอธิบายเรื่องนรกและสวรรค์ และหัวข้อธรรมที่อยู่เหนือประสาทสัมผัสที่เกี่ยวเนื่องกับเรื่องนรกและสวรรค์ ได้แก่ การเวียนว่ายตายเกิดและภพชาติ อมนุษย์ และปาฏิหาริย์ โดยเป็นการศึกษาวิจัยเชิงเอกสารจากธรรมบรรยายและหนังสือของสมเด็จพระพุทธโฆษาจารย์ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า เรื่องนรกและสวรรค์เป็นสิ่งที่ไม่อาจกล่าวถึงในแง่ของการมีหรือไม่มีโดยอ้างคัมภีร์ทางพระพุทธศาสนาโดยตรงได้ แต่ควรมีข้อพิจารณาและท่าทีการปฏิบัติต่อเรื่องนี้เข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องด้วย ท่านได้อธิบายเรื่องนรกและสวรรค์ แบ่งออกเป็น 3 ระดับ กล่าวคือ ระดับที่ 1 เป็นการกล่าวถึงนรกและสวรรค์โดยอ้างอิงพระไตรปิฎก ที่มีลักษณะเป็นภพภูมิที่รองรับผลของกรรมชั่วและกรรมดีหลังความตาย ระดับที่ 2 นรกและสวรรค์ซึ่งเป็นคุณภาพของจิตหรือภูมิจิตที่สืบเนื่องไปจากคุณภาพจิตในปัจจุบัน ระดับที่ 3 นรกและสวรรค์ที่เป็นการรับรู้อารมณ์ที่น่าพอใจและไม่น่าพอใจจากการรับอารมณ์ผ่านอายตนะทั้ง 6 ท่านพยายามเน้นการอธิบายนรกและสวรรค์ในระดับที่ 2 และ 3 โดยแสดงให้เห็นว่า มนุษย์ซึ่งอาจมีสภาพจิตที่หยาบหรือประณีตสามารถที่จะเข้าถึงหรือรับรู้อารมณ์ความสุขหรือความทุกข์ของภพภูมิที่มองไม่เห็นนั้นได้ เมื่อรับรู้แล้วก็ควรตระหนักถึงบทบาทของมนุษย์เองในการเป็นผู้สร้างเหตุให้เกิดผลดีหรือชั่วนั้น ส่วนการอธิบายในประเด็นอื่นที่เกี่ยวข้อง พบว่า มีแนวทางเดียวกัน คือการสอนจะต้องนำไปสู่ความเข้าใจหรือท่าทีที่เหมาะสม ซึ่งตอกย้ำหลักการในพระพุทธศาสนา ได้แก่ การพึ่งตนเองและความไม่ประมาทในชีวิต จนถึงการแก้ปัญหาความงมงายในสังคม ในการอธิบาย ท่านได้โยงกลับมาที่ตัวมนุษย์ซึ่งสามารถรับรู้สาระสำคัญของสิ่งที่อยู่เหนือประสาทสัมผัสนั้นด้วยตนเอง เช่น ความรู้สึกทุกข์หรือสุขที่สร้างได้ด้วยตนเอง ความไม่แน่นอนของชีวิต คุณภาพที่แตกต่างกันของมนุษย์ในสังคม ความน่าอัศจรรย์ที่บุคคลสร้างขึ้น นับว่าเป็นการสื่อสารธรรมที่เหนือประสาทสัมผัสได้โดยที่ไม่กระทบความหมายดั้งเดิมของธรรมนั้น

วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มุ่งศึกษาเรื่องสงครามและยุทธวิธีในคัมภีร์อรรถศาสตร์และคัมภีร์กามันทกียนีติสาระเพื่อเปรียบเทียบสารัตถะพัฒนาการและความสัมพันธ์ของทั้งสองคัมภีร์ โดยแบ่งออกเป็น 6 ประเด็น ได้แก่ (1) สงคราม (2) ปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อการพิจารณายาตราทัพ (3) การสร้างค่ายหอรบ (4) การจัดกระบวนทัพ (5) การตอบโต้ และ (6) การต่อสู้ด้วยกลลวงผลการศึกษาพบว่า คัมภีร์อรรถศาสตร์เป็นการรวบรวมองค์ความรู้ทางนีติศาสตร์จากคณาจารย์ยุคก่อน และนำเสนอในมุมมองของตนเอง ส่วนคัมภีร์กามันทกียนีติสาระได้นำเสนอองค์ความรู้อ้างอิงคัมภีร์อรรถศาสตร์ เป็นการสืบทอดองค์ความรู้อย่างต่อเนื่องหลายศตวรรษ นอกจากนี้ประเด็นสำคัญที่ผู้วิจัยค้นพบคือ คัมภีร์กามันทกียนีติสาระมิใช่เป็นการนำคัมภีร์อรรถศาสตร์มาแต่งเป็นร้อยกรองเท่านั้น แต่เป็นการประมวลองค์ความรู้ทางนีติศาสตร์จากคณาจารย์ในยุคก่อนเช่นเดียวกับคัมภีร์อรรถศาสตร์ โดยมีเกาฏิลยะเป็นหนึ่งในคณาจารย์นั้น และได้มีการพัฒนาสร้างสรรค์องค์ความรู้จนเป็นแบบฉบับที่มีเอกลักษณ์เป็นของตนเองเรื่องสงครามและยุทธวิธีเป็นหนึ่งในวิธีการแสวงหาความรุ่งเรืองให้แก่อาณาจักร พระราชาที่เป็นผู้นำทัพจะต้องมีความสามารถในการวางแผน เพื่อเตรียมพร้อมรับมือกับสถาณการณ์ต่าง ๆ ได้เป็นอย่างดี ทั้งยังต้องเชี่ยวชาญการเดินทัพเพื่อโจมตีศัตรู และการใช้กลอุบายต่าง ๆ เพื่อแสวงหาความได้เปรียบ แม้อุบายนั้นจะผิดศีลธรรม ดังนั้นจึงแสดงให้เห็นว่าองค์ความรู้จากทั้งสองคัมภีร์สอนในเชิงปฏิบัติมากกว่าอุดมคติ โดยมองว่าทุกวิธีการที่ทำให้เกิดความได้เปรียบเป็นสิ่งชอบธรรม

The scriptures consistently depict the significance of sacred space and sacred time in the lives of the Lord’s covenant people. Sacred time is still experienced today, as in the past, through commemorations and celebrations on specific days that are dedicated to God and thus regarded as holy. These days punctuate the passing of ordinary or common time and are intended to help bring focus and clarity to relationships with the divine.

This article examines the life of Nancy Naomi Tracy as a lens into the Latter-day Saint struggle for religious liberty in nineteenth-century America. Joining the Church in 1834, Tracy endured repeated persecution—from the Missouri expulsions and the 1838 Mormon War to the federal antipolygamy campaigns of the 1880s—yet actively fought for her faith’s constitutional protections. As the only known female electioneer missionary in Joseph Smith’s 1844 presidential campaign, she embodied the Saints’ bold blend of religious conviction and political engagement. Drawing on Tracy’s three personal reminiscences (1880, 1885, and 1896–99), the study explores how her experiences as a wife, mother, …

From the fall of Islamic Išbīliya in 1248 to the conquest of the New World, Seville was a nexus of economic and religious power where interconfessional living among Christians, Jews, and Muslims was negotiated on public stages. Humans have long been interested in relations among religion/spirituality (R/S), positive psychological constructs, and physical health. Furthermore, many religions attempt to influence behavior through health-related prescriptions about food choices, sexual activity, substance use, and resting. Similarly, positive psychological constructs have been discussed in light of their presumed benefits on both mental and physical health (Ryff & Singer, 1998). However, R/S and positive psychological constructs have only recently become objects of scientific investigation of their associations with physical health.

In the debate between Freud and Romain Rolland the latter asserted the infants’ oceanic feeling to be saner than the adults’ limited sense of self, and that mystics recover the oceanic feeling without losing the learning achieved during socialization. Freud retorted that the oceanic feeling involved a sense of shelterlessness, and whoever went through derealization was psychotic and needed to be cured. However, the feeling of shelterlessness comes from the fledging sense of separation, and although derealization is a dangerous process, when it develops unhindered the result is greater sanity. This thesis seeks to address the contention between the perceived sovereign power of the Papacy and the Protestant Reformers. It will first provide a historical survey of how the Pope came to understand himself through the history of the Church. It will then analyze responses from the Reformers regarding this topic, focusing mainly on confessional documents and responses to these documents from the Roman Catholic Church. There are striking differences between the classic description of the scapegoat ritual found in Leviticus 16 and later renderings of this rite in rabbinic and early Christian authors. For instance, several enigmatic additions to the Levitical blueprint of the scapegoat ritual appear in later interpretations of this rite found in mishnaic, targumic, and talmudic accounts, especially in the description of the conclusion of the scapegoat ceremony. The notion that the righteous would one day feast on Behemoth and Leviathan occupied a prominent place in early Jewish pseudepigraphical accounts, including testimonies found in the Book of the Similitudes, 4 Ezra, and 2 Baruch. Thus, from 1 Enoch 60:24 one learns that “two monsters, prepared according to the greatness of the Lord, will provide food for the chosen and righteous.”

วิทยานิพนธ์นี้ศึกษาพุทธธรรมในนิตยสารธรรมจักษุ ในสมัยสมเด็จพระมหาสมณเจ้า กรมพระยาวชิรญาณวโรรส ทรงเป็นบรรณาธิการ พ.ศ. 2437-2454 โดยศึกษาความเป็นมา สารัตถะ และบทบาทความสำคัญต่อพระพุทธศาสนาและสังคมไทย ผลการศึกษาความเป็นมาพบว่า นิตยสารธรรมจักษุ (พ.ศ. 2437-2454) เป็นนิตยสารทางพระพุทธศาสนาเล่มแรกของประเทศไทย ตีพิมพ์เป็นรายเดือน เผยแผ่ครั้งแรกเมื่อเดือนตุลาคม ปีพุทธศักราช 2437 ในสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โดยสมเด็จพระมหาสมณเจ้า กรมพระยาวชิรญาณวโรรส (กรมหมื่นวชิรญาณวโรรส) ทรงเป็นผู้ก่อตั้งและบรรณาธิการรูปแรก มีพระเถรานุเถระ พระภิกษุสามเณรนิสิตของมหามกุฏราชวิทยาลัย และกลุ่มบุคคลต่าง ๆ ร่วมจัดทำ เพื่อใช้เป็นสื่อในการเผยแผ่พุทธธรรมที่เข้ากับสมัยนิยม ตามวัตถุประสงค์สำหรับเผยแผ่พุทธธรรมของมหามกุฏราชวิทยาลัย ผลการศึกษาด้านสารัตถะพุทธธรรมพบว่า เนื้อหาสารัตถะพุทธธรรมในนิตยสารธรรมจักษุ จำแนกออกเป็น 10 ประเภท ได้แก่ สารัตถะพุทธธรรมเกี่ยวกับ 1) คัมภีร์พระไตรปิฎก 2) สุภาษิตและนิทานชาดก 3) พระธรรมเทศนา 4) คำอนุโมทนา 5) หัวข้อกระทู้ธรรม 6) ตำนานและประวัติศาสตร์ 7) คัมภีร์ทางพระพุทธศาสนา 8) หลักธรรมสำคัญและหลักการปฏิบัติธรรม 9) พระคุณสมบัติของพระพุทธเจ้า และ 10) พระสูตรทางพระพุทธศาสนามหายาน สะท้อนให้เห็นมิติใหม่ของการเผยแผ่พุทธธรรมไปสู่สาธารณชน ด้วยการนำเสนอเนื้อหาสาระที่หลากหลาย เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้อ่านสามารถเข้าถึงวรรณกรรมทางพระพุทธศาสนามากยิ่งขึ้น ผลการศึกษาด้านกลวิธีนำเสนอสารัตถะพุทธธรรมพบว่า มี 5 รูปแบบ ได้แก่ 1) การใช้ภาษาแนวใหม่ 2) การจัดหมวดหมู่สารัตถะพุทธธรรม 3) การแปลความพระสูตรรูปแบบใหม่ 4) การนำเสนอพุทธสุภาษิตสั้น ๆ 5) การใช้โวหารวิธี คือ บรรยายโวหารวิธี พรรณนาโวหารวิธี ปุจฉาวิสัชนาวิธี สาธกโวหารวิธี และเทศนาโวหารวิธี เพื่อเป็นทางเลือกในการอ่านและศึกษาคำสอนทางพระพุทธศาสนา ผ่านมิติมุมมองด้านประวัติศาสตร์ ภูมิศาสตร์ และภาษาวรรณกรรม โดยประยุกต์หลักธรรมให้เหมาะสมแก่กาลและบริบทสังคม ผลการศึกษาด้านบทบาทและความสำคัญของนิตยสารธรรมจักษุต่อพุทธศาสนาในสังคมไทยพบว่า นิตยสารธรรมจักษุ เป็นเสมือนโรงธรรมสภาของพุทธศาสนิกชน สร้างพฤติกรรมการรับรู้พุทธธรรมใหม่ ๆ คือปรับเปลี่ยนรูปแบบการเข้าถึงหลักพุทธธรรมจากการฟังสู่การอ่าน เป็นสื่อของคณะสงฆ์ส่วนกลางในการจัดการเล่าเรียนหัวเมือง และเป็นสื่อกลางระหว่างพระพุทธศาสนา พระมหากษัตริย์ ชาติบ้านเมือง และประชาชน ซึ่งเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการเผยแผ่คำสอนของพระพุทธศาสนาและพัฒนาการศึกษาของบ้านเมืองอีกช่องทางหนึ่ง …
