The Multi-Step Approach To Covid Prevention In The Casamance Region, Saraí Hernandez Salguero
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
Located in the Oussouye Department approximately 43 kilometers away from the city of Ziguinchor in the Basse Casamance region of southern Senegal is the Oussouye commune where I had the pleasure of staying for three weeks. I had learned that the inhabitants of this village were not significantly impacted by the Covid-19 virus since it became global knowledge at the start of 2020. As of March 2020, the village had only reported 69 active cases and the department saw only 8 deaths in total. I sought to figure out what could be the cause of this and through a series …

This paper examines the text itself as well as its broader context within Biblical canon, concluding with an application of the content for modern-day Christians.
More Sick, More Spiritual? More Research Needed: A Review Of Spirituality In Youth With Chronic Illness Compared With Their Healthy Peers, Carrie Ives
Religious & Theological Studies Student Work
Purpose: This review seeks to discover whether youth with chronic illness are more spiritual than their healthy peers.
Methods: A total of 111 articles were gathered via MackSearch and reference list evaluation. Of those, 63 were ruled out by title or abstract. Forty-three sources were appropriate for background reference, leaving five articles for review.
Findings: Based on the reviewed studies, any increase in spirituality among chronically ill youth compared to their healthy peers is minimal. There is suspicion that the majority of the assessment tools used were not adequately sensitive for the adolescent population.
Discussion: Assessments that are validated for …

A Biblical, Culturally Relevant, And Contextually Applicable Financial Literacy Curriculum, Wallace Kanyuira
A Biblical, Culturally Relevant, And Contextually Applicable Financial Literacy Curriculum, Wallace Kanyuira
Doctor of Leadership
Poverty in Kenya is high, and the church should respond by economically empowering the people to be self-reliant. People are in poverty, not for lack of opportunities and resources, but because they lack the knowledge and skills to exploit these opportunities, make decisions they are ill-equipped to make, and lack financial literacy. Many people who are financially struggling tend to seek solace in churches. Consequently, pastors need to master and teach biblical financial literacy and reshape the church culture to be responsive. In Hosea 4:6 God says: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. . . .” Biblical financial …

First Responder Chaplaincy: Sending Sources As Key Social Support Structures, Christopher Alan Bassett
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Police and fire chaplaincy comprises an emerging ministry profession that is underrepresented in academic study. This study addresses the problem of support structure inadequacies among First Responder Chaplains (FRCs) which create conditions that lead to burnout. The study examines their often-problematic connections to churches, denominations, and other endorsing agencies (sending sources). The purpose of the project is to assess those connections and provide remediation inadequacies. The thesis project examines Chaplaincy Organizational Agencies (COAs) and develops solutions for FRCs to build better initial and ongoing relationships with their sending sources. The thesis suggests that chaplains who are properly affirmed, supported, and …

Using Mentor/Apprentice Relationships In Discipleship Groups To Develop Missional Leaders In The Church Of The Covenant, Jerrold Scott Shetter
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this project is to cultivate a disciple making leadership development strategy at The Church of the Covenant. It will use questionnaires and interviews to gain a knowledge of the depth of understanding the congregation has regarding discipleship, small groups, and leadership as well as gain an understanding regarding why small group ministries have never been able to grab a foothold at the church. A focus group will be gathered to preview the plan to create a culture of discipleship in the church as well as a mentor/apprentice format for developing new leaders in the group. The church …
Babylon Is Fallen, Is Fallen: Southern Morality In Go Set A Watchman, Anna G. Dowling
Babylon Is Fallen, Is Fallen: Southern Morality In Go Set A Watchman, Anna G. Dowling
Senior Theses
A crucial theme throughout Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee is the struggle between individual morality and collective consciousness, as exemplified by black and white relations in the American South. In this thesis, I explore the biblical concept of a “watchman” as referenced in the novel’s title and what conclusions can be drawn from delving into the literary and biblical contexts of this allusion. I utilize this as a framework to explore how and why the characters of Watchman exist in such fragmented, defensive states as opposed to their Mockingbird counterparts, and what these differences imply regarding the importance …

Expository Preaching’S Impact On A Congregation’S Understanding Of The Discipleship Process, Jeremy James Highlander
Expository Preaching’S Impact On A Congregation’S Understanding Of The Discipleship Process, Jeremy James Highlander
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Traditional churches have struggled with a decline in membership over the past decades. The lack of balance between discipleship and evangelism has had a major influence on this decline. The question is whether the lack of understanding of the discipleship process is due to poor preaching or a lack of expository preaching within the church. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of expository preaching on the congregation’s understanding of the discipleship process. Ten church members who have been under the influence of topical preaching and five pastors who practice expository preaching took part in the study …
Equipping Military Chaplains With A Framework For Mental Wellness: A Qualitative Descriptive Study, Stephanie Okolo
Equipping Military Chaplains With A Framework For Mental Wellness: A Qualitative Descriptive Study, Stephanie Okolo
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Although it is said that the sight of a battlefield after combat can fill princes with a love of peace and haunt them with the horrors of war, the mental health effects of war on soldiers are often frustratingly difficult to comprehend. It is, however, clear that warzones and the general environments in which deployed soldiers work can have negative impacts on their mental health. Military chaplains work closely with deployed soldiers and should be well-equipped with the knowledge to help them understand their mental health needs. It is important that they possess the right skills to do this well. …

African Americans and Caucasian Christians were created as one race and must become revolutionary, re-emerge, and re-engage through a 911 effervescent perspective to share the gospel message to one another, juxtaposing to all people. God’s creation of humankind extends to God’s beloved church as the established community of believers encapsulating doctrine that notably and unapologetically symbolizes all believers represent the body of Christ whom Christ died for (1 Corinthians 12:27) (2 Corinthians 5:15). This project echoes biblical Scriptures and elaborates upon a bonified message that says, racial reconciliation is crucial for African Americans and …Loyola Marymount University Solidarity And Global Citizenship Collection: Introduction And Overview, Elizabeth C. The Household Of God: Building Communities Of Shalom, Jodi Gatlin
Doctor of Ministry
This paper explores the problem of anxiety, loneliness, and division within the United States. Research shows that while anxiety, loneliness, and division are on the rise, church participation is on the decline. In light of this reality, this paper asks the question, “How can the church be a community so that lonely and anxious people can be seen, known, and belong?”
From Genesis through Revelation, Scripture witnesses to God’s presence in creation, uniting with humanity to expand God’s heaven and earth temple into the rest of creation. Within God’s temple, God’s people are called to love God first, then self …
