Conflict Between Religious Beliefs And Sexuality: An Autoethnography, Carlos E. Gerena
Conflict Between Religious Beliefs And Sexuality: An Autoethnography, Carlos E. Gerena
The Qualitative Report
Despite the shift in attitudes in religious institutions toward homosexuals in the United States, there are some religions that continue to view same-sex behavior as a deviant and damning sin. For many, religious beliefs and values provide meaning and impact personal identity. Using autoethnography, I will explicate my own experiences with religious institutions and the ongoing conflict between religious beliefs and sexuality. I will discuss messages received from the Pentecostal church, family, and Latino community, and how these messages influenced my human development and emotional well-being. I show that internalization of the principles taught by the Pentecostal Church triggered a …

He took a rib from your side and made others.
So you considered Others your children, forever.
He told you to go forth and produce and multiply so you made capitalism.
He told you to go forth and conquer and pillage and mark your name and plant your flag where-ever you wanted.
So now the moon is yours. Jupiter, beware! [excerpt]

Stay Curious : How Questions And Doubts Can Save Your Faith, Stephanie Williams O'Brien
Faculty Books
Most of us are going through the motions when it comes to faith, either believing we've found all the relevant answers to life's questions or believing none can be found. We shy away from our deepest questions about God because we fear the uncertainty on the other side. But when we make certainty and correct belief the end goal of faith, we miss out on the chance to know God more deeply and to participate in God's work in the world. In "Stay Curious" Pastor Steph shows us how to lean into our questions and embrace a life of curiosity. …

"This masterpiece on preaching will prove beneficial to all who desire to improve their preaching prowess. The experienced preacher will be reminded of the best practices of preaching and how to hone their preaching skills. On the other hand, the inexperienced preacher will learn how to avoid the common pitfalls of preaching, and how to prepare and effectively preach biblically sound and practical sermons. Furthermore, Williams’ book is a wonderful resource for present and future female preachers."
Christian History As World History: A Review Essay, Joel Carpenter
Christian History As World History: A Review Essay, Joel Carpenter
University Faculty Publications and Creative Works
This review essay discusses the status of “World Christianity” as a field of study, then highlights the features of the book at hand. It is an exercise in world history more than church history, focusing on how Christianity in various parts of the world responded to the twentieth century’s greatest challenges. The book addresses the rise of millenarianism and fundamentalism, neo-orthodoxy, liberation theology, Pentecostalism, and ecumenism. But its more intent focus is on how Christianity addressed the century’s world wars, colonialism, nationalism, secularism, rise of radical Islam, human rights, migration, and the growing power of the state.

Mediating Suffering: Buddhist Detachment And Tantric Responsibility In Michael Ondaatje’S Anil’S Ghost, Justin M. Hewitson
Mediating Suffering: Buddhist Detachment And Tantric Responsibility In Michael Ondaatje’S Anil’S Ghost, Justin M. Hewitson
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In “Mediating Suffering: Buddhist Detachment and Tantric Responsibility in Michael Ondaatje’s Anil’s Ghost,” Justin Hewitson argues that the global mediation of suffering following human rights abuses creates the offender-victim binary. The way in which moral judgments drive urgent peacemaking is seldom connected to long-term victimhood narratives. This psychology can exacerbate cyclical patterns of anger, exploitation, and violence by deferring responsibility. Ondaatje’s controversial novel, Anil’s Ghost, which reflects these charged accusations, refuses to settle blame on any side of the Sri Lankan conflict; instead, it offers the troubling recognition that offenders, victims, and mediators are all causal agents. Hewitson …
Technologizing The Divine, Peter Mclaren
Technologizing The Divine, Peter Mclaren
Education Faculty Articles and Research
"Technology has helped us to define who we are as a species. But for all of its potential for good, it has wrought a malignant vengeance, calumniating the poor as disposable wastrels and inducing all but the owners of the means of production to endure many species of alienation. An intemperate obstacle arises when we attempt to technologize human spirituality."

أثر أسباب النزول في فهم آيات الأحكام عند الماوردي من خلال كتابه: (الحاوي الكبير) The Impact Of The Reasons For Divine Revelation In The Understanding Of The Legal Verses Of The Mawardi Through His Book (Al-Hawi Al-Kabir), Abdullah Ahmad Azzyout

It is clear from this study that the Mawardi’s mention is high due to the reasons of divine revelation in his book, but it does not mention its resources, nor its truth and take them in understanding meanings, the extraction of …

قضية الاصطلاح في العلوم الإسلامية (المفهوم وإشكالية تعدد الدلالة) The Issue Of Terminology In Islamic Sciences (The Concept And The Problematic Of Multiplicity), Alehsan Buqdoon
Jordan Journal of Islamic Studies
This research deals with one of the most complicated issues in the history and evolution of Islamic sciences which is the issue of “the term industry” in these sciences.
I have tried to get to know the two sides of this topic through two basic chapters:
The first chapter is devoted to definition of the terms of “the term” and its significance in the Islamic sciences. Accordingly, I have defined the concept of “the term” according to some statements of scholars in this field, and it showed that some types of terminology can be classified accordingly. I also explained the …
