The Ecclesiology Of Training For Trainers: The Issue Of Method And I Timothy 3:6, John Henry Serworwora
The Ecclesiology Of Training For Trainers: The Issue Of Method And I Timothy 3:6, John Henry Serworwora
Great Commission Research Journal
The implementation of the Church Planting Movement (CPM) and Training for Trainers (T4T) by the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention missions life is not without challenge. Southern Baptist missiologists and seminary professors have written numerous papers and articles supporting or contesting this methodology. The majority of criticisms focus on the emphasis in the rapidity and “mass production” of churches, fearing the theological alteration among the new believers and their churches. This article argues that the leadership process in T4T/CPM violates the Baptist ecclesiology, since 1 Timothy 3:6 essentially excludes a new believer from pastoral leadership.

The Image Of Women In The Interpreted Qur'an: Translations Of Pickthall, Ali, Hilali And Abdel Haleem, Yassmine Muhammad Mahfouz Muhammad
Theses and Dissertations
The Image of Women in the Interpreted Qur’ān: Translations of Pickthall, Ali, Hilālī, and Abdel Haleem By Yassmine Muhammad Mahfouz (Under the supervision of Professor Tahia Abdel Nasser, The American University in Cairo). I have intended this work with the premise of shedding light on the rights of women in the Qur’ān through examining its English translations since this topic has undergone much controversy between patriarchal and Islamophobic camps. However, through the examination of the translations, I have touched on how translation cannot only be problematic but also dangerously influential in presenting the sacred text. The main finding was that …
Experiencing Our Only Comfort: A Post-Reformation Refocus In The Heidelberg Catechism, Jan Van Vliet
Experiencing Our Only Comfort: A Post-Reformation Refocus In The Heidelberg Catechism, Jan Van Vliet
Faculty Work Comprehensive List
Last year marked the 450th anniversary of the publication of the Heidelberg Catechism. In celebration of this momentous occasion and as a reminder of the contemporary applicability of this highly-regarded confessional document, this essay examines the earliest and most complete Puritan commentary extant: that of second-generation Puritan thinker William Ames (1576–1633), protégé of William Perkins (1558–1602), the “father” of the Puritan movement. We examine methodological considerations and two topical issues that arise when the venerated Catechism is placed in the hands of a practically oriented, post-Reformation divine for whom theology was none other than “living to God”: Theologia est doctrina …

The strong attraction which Judaism held for Paul’s converts in Galatia and elsewhere is hard to explain if Israel as a whole was generally lamenting its condition.Early Jewish writings similarly give evidence of variety and nuance in Jewish self-understanding in this period.37 The Scroll of Fasting (Megillat Ta’anit), for example, marks the celebration of Hasmonean victories within Jewish life, days of celebration on which one was not to fast.

Religiosity, Marital Adjustment, And Intimacy, Bryan L. Presler
Religiosity, Marital Adjustment, And Intimacy, Bryan L. Presler
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
The purpose of this study was to examine the complexities of how religious attendance, personal religious activity, and importance of religion are related to marital adjustment and emotional, sexual, and spiritual intimacy. Previous research suggests that church attendance is related to higher marital adjustment; however, the relationship between sexual satisfaction and religiosity appears to be minimal, although Christian authors often suggest a link. The Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS), and the Emotional, Sexual, and Spiritual Intimacy Scale (ESSI) were administered to a sample of 88 married individuals. One-way ANOVAs found that religious attendance was not related to marital adjustment, or …
Emerging From The Shadows: Civil War, Human Rights, And Peacebuilding Among Peasants And Indigenous Peoples In Colombia And Peru In The Late 20th And Early 21st Centuries, Charles A. Flowerday
Emerging From The Shadows: Civil War, Human Rights, And Peacebuilding Among Peasants And Indigenous Peoples In Colombia And Peru In The Late 20th And Early 21st Centuries, Charles A. Flowerday
Department of Anthropology: Theses and Student Research
Peacebuilding in Colombia and Peru following their late-20th and early 21st century civil wars is a challenging proposition. In this study, it becomes necessary as indigenous peoples and peasants resist domination by extractive industries and governments in their thrall. Whether they protest nonviolently or rebel in arms, they are targeted for human-rights violations, especially murder, disappearance and displacement. The armed actors, state, insurgency, paramilitaries or drug traffickers, destroy civic institutions (local or regional government) and the civil (nonprofit) sector and replace them with their own authoritarian versions. Therefore, peacebuilding has emphasized rebuilding civic institutions, civil society and local …

Consideration Of The Church's Identity And Mission, Predicated On The Church Be-Ing 'Ligamen' (Bond), C. A. Chase
School of Theology and Seminary Graduate Papers/Theses
In 1965, the Roman Catholic Church, in Gaudium et spes, declared to the world: this community realizes that it is truly linked with mankind and its history by the deepest of bonds (GS 1). Shifting her identity from being one in opposition to the modern world, she announced the possibility of becoming the very bond (ligamen) binding diverse human communities and nations of the world, whilst existing as a function, a light, an energy (GS 42). Framed against the classical understanding of ecclesia as a perfect society, and the fact that this was no longer realistic in …
Cognitive Dissonance: Observing The Links Between Religiosity, Religious Beliefs, Gender And Religious Behavior, Thomas A. J. Mccall
Cognitive Dissonance: Observing The Links Between Religiosity, Religious Beliefs, Gender And Religious Behavior, Thomas A. J. Mccall
Student Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to observe how religiosity, religious beliefs and gender correlated to religious behavior. To accomplish this a religiosity survey was administered to college students at a mid-south university from a random sample that was taken from students enrolled in oral communications classes. According to cognitive dissonance theory, individuals strive for consistency between beliefs and behaviors. Because of this, people who endorse religious beliefs should exhibit the religious behaviors that are associated with those beliefs. The study found strong and moderate positive correlations between specific religious behaviors and overall religiosity as well as moderate positive correlations …

Eikonoi Of God: A Christ-Pneuma Interpretation Of Humanity, Benjamin Rush
Obsculta
Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” There is no single Christology that can provide satisfaction for the multitude of answers to Jesus’ question; the history of the church is a history of different questions, motivated by different circumstances. However, the goal remains consistent: finding a way of understanding God and God’s action in history. This paper uses two tasks that emerge from this theological discourse through the lens of Eastern Orthodoxy. The first task is finding an answer to Jesus’ question in light of revelation that Christ Jesus is both truly human and truly divine, …

The Icon Unpainted, Kendall Ketterlin O.Carm.
Obsculta
the Icon Unpainted came from my prayers and personal experience of Advent, first, walking with Mary as she waited on the edge of giving birth, knowing what was to come and realizing the promises that were on the verge of becoming flesh, then opening that vision to an entire world, history of prophecy and scripture that was about to be captured in a single moment.
