Leading The Assembly Is Pastoral, Virgil C. Funk Jan 2001

Leading The Assembly Is Pastoral, Virgil C. Funk

Institute of Liturgical Studies Occasional Papers

(Excerpt)

I should begin, I think, by explaining a bit about what I mean by "pastoral" when we speak about leading the assembly. We got a phone call once at the National Association of Pastoral Musicians from a scholar who was researching the folk music of Greek shepherds, and he thought that we might be of some help, since we are also interested in things "pastoral." The Grace Of Leading The Assembly, Gabe Huck

Institute of Liturgical Studies Occasional Papers

(Excerpt)

In either case, despite a tradition of fables, parables, and allegorical treatments of …

Sources Of Authority In The Koinonia, Alexander Rolfe

Faculty Publications - George Fox University Library

A striking feature of the first communal monasteries is the degree of authority the monks gave to their superiors. Why did so many Christians flock to these new communities and yield total control to the abbot? This essay considers how Pachomius, the founder of cenobitic monasticism, and his successor Theodore, gained such trust and confidence.

Joseph Smith's Cooperstown Bible: The Historical Context Of The Bible Used In The Joseph Smith Translation, Kent P. Jackson Jan 2001

Joseph Smith's Cooperstown Bible: The Historical Context Of The Bible Used In The Joseph Smith Translation, Kent P. Jackson

BYU Studies

In 1828, the H. and E. Phinney Company in Cooperstown, New York, published a quarto-size edition of the King James Bible. Some of Smith's corrections and additions appear in footnotes of the Bible that Mormons use today. The author notes that the Phinney Bible's updated language is more modern than the version …
