Development And Implementation Of A Youth Prayer Fellowship In Madras, Swamidass Johnson
Development And Implementation Of A Youth Prayer Fellowship In Madras, Swamidass Johnson
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Many youth in the Adventist Church in Madras do not participate regularly in church activities. Additionally they suffer from the effects of poverty, unemployment, and family tensions.
Task
The task of this dissertation was to develop a youth prayer fellowship that would address the problems of youth in the Madras Adventist Church.
Method
The biblical concept of prayer groups was studied to establish a basis for the prayer fellowship. In addition, the organization and effects of five Indian prayer fellowships were studied: Friends Missionary Prayer Band, Indian Evangelical Mission Prayer Fellowship, Christian Missionary Society Prayer Band, New Assembly Prayer …

An Evangelistic Strategy For Reaching Baby Boomers In Rock Island County, Illinois, Clarence H. Small
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
The Moline Seventh-day Adventist Church, with a regularly attending membership of approximately 65, has fifteen Baby Boomer members in a county of over 160,000, of whom at least 44,000 are Boomers, with over 30,000 of these being unchurched. This project sought to develop a strategy for attracting Baby Boomers to the Moline church.
Method
A strategy was developed and implemented to attract Baby Boomers to church based upon six valid and transferable principles drawn from existing literature and the successful programs of the Willow Creek and Saddleback churches-and the clearly established legitimacy of targeting specific groups for evangelism. This …

Proyecto De Capacitación Laica Para La Iglesia Local, Hector Solera
Doctor of Ministry Projects
The Christian Church has the duty of evangelizing all nations. This task requires that all church members participate actively in evangelism. However, not all church members get involved because they do not know how. This research initiated and evaluated a project to train the members of the Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church in Atlantic City, New Jersey, with the purpose of enabling them to evangelize the city.
The project was developed in five different seminars during five consecutive weekends. The topics covered were the following: the priesthood of all believers, how to present the gospel in a Christ-centered fashion, the art …
Creative Bible Teaching For Seventh-Day Adventist Youth Ages 13-18, Michael Kwaku Owusu
Creative Bible Teaching For Seventh-Day Adventist Youth Ages 13-18, Michael Kwaku Owusu
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Studies regarding how adolescents learn have found that the traditional approach of teaching as information or knowledge to be passed on with an emphasis on the mastery of content is not very effective. In view of this, many Christian educators and youth ministry specialists recommend a shift from the traditional methods of teaching the Bible to creative ways of teaching with a focus on active student participation in the teaching-learning process, and on meaning of Bible truths.
Method
The method used to complete this project was a review of representative literature dealing with theories and concepts of teaching and …
Equipping Laity For Ministry In Multi-Church Districts In Brazil, Paulo Cesar Nogueira
Equipping Laity For Ministry In Multi-Church Districts In Brazil, Paulo Cesar Nogueira
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Most church districts in Brazil are comprised of many churches and companies. The average load of pastoral care is one pastor for seven congregations. In addition, members have high expectations their pastors and both lack a clear understanding of the role of lay ministry. Thus pastors feel a heavy work load.
Method
A survey of biblical insights, current literature, and other studies on the priesthood of all believers, lay ministry, and effective pastoral work was undertaken. A program designed to enhance pastoral work in multi-church districts in Brazil was developed.
Results
The concept of the priesthood of all believers …

Religious Attitudes Toward Cloning: A Tale Of Two Creatures, Dena S. Davis
Religious Attitudes Toward Cloning: A Tale Of Two Creatures, Dena S. Davis
Law Faculty Articles and Essays
This Essay offers one analytic structure with which to approach the study of religious responses to cloning and suggests that, whereas the negative reactions are tied to a Frankenstein approach--that is, one which uses all the horror of that myth to express our fears about humans getting into the creation business--the more positive reactions express what I will call the Golem approach, based on a lesser-known legend.

Time is a little consequence when an Event is near. In a rush and emphasis of time, three of us stood in a field to the north of Temple Hill. Darrel Taylor said, "I want to establish a language training center for missionaries of the Church. I want it to be part of the department of foreign languages so that the beauties of the languages can be seen with the Truth that is in them." And I thought of the possibility of a magazine for the university, as it might e, drawing its breath from the influence of ages past, …

Byu Studies From 1967 To 1983, Charles D. Tate Jr.
BYU Studies
In my editorial in the first issue of BYU Studies that I edited, I noted that from its inception the journal was to be a "Voice for the Community of LDS Scholars." Since there are enough scholarly journals that will publish secular scholarly studies by LDS authors, BYU Studies was distinctively to be the journal in which faithful Latter-day Saint scholars could publish articles that explored the correlation of their secular studies and their religious convictions. As most of the rest of the world does not believe in modern revelation as a viable medium of scholarly information, none of the …

When I was appointed editor of BYU Studies in 1991, I was keenly aware of the sterling, scholarly reputation that this journal had won for itself since its inception in 1959. My hope was to build on that solid foundation, which had been put clearly in place right from the journal's earliest days.

Visitors to the Salt Lake Tabernacle are often stunned to learn that the pillars supporting the gallery are not marble but are pine painted to look like marble and that the "oak" benches and organ case are also pine with simulated oak graining. The Tabernacle woodwork and furniture are the most visible reminders of the practice of graining, a technique widely used in Utah Territory's furniture to imitate the look of marble, hardwood, and even leather.

For forty years, BYU Studies has published scholarly materials by and for the LDS community. As it moves to the twenty-first century, this journal plans to continue to expand the variety of its articles and the size of its reading audience. As BYU Studies, together with its sponsoring institution, grows and matures, I hope this channel can provide readers around the world with more information and more well-articulated conclusions and insights, while addressing significant subjects and pressing issues relevant to the work of God on this earth. BYU Studies can and should offer the world the best scholarly perspectives …
