A Survey Of Mormon Literary Criticism, Colin B. Douglas
A Survey Of Mormon Literary Criticism, Colin B. Douglas
Theses and Dissertations
Three general questions concerning literature have been addressed by the writers considered in this thesis: What constitutes a work of literary art? What ought to be valued by Latter-day Saints in a literary work? How should criticism be conducted by Latter-day Saints? To the first question, five basic answers have been proposed: significant form, uplifting thought content clothed in decorative form, typological symbol, ikon (as the word is used by C S lewis in An Experiment in Criticism), and capacity for helping the reader achieve a kind of "negative capability." These definitions also tend to be statements of value, …

Episcopal Churchwomen Of The Diocese Of Upper South Carolina Records - Accession 169, Episcopal Churchwomen Of The Diocese Of Upper South Carolina
Manuscript Collection
The Episcopal Churchwomen of the Diocese of Upper South Carolina Records consist of histories, minutes, reports, correspondence, financial records, program notes, photographs, newspaper clippings, journals, handbooks, yearbooks, and scrapbooks relating to the history of the Episcopal Church in the Upstate of South Carolina and women’s role in the Church. Of particular interest are the records relating to the Bishops Committee on Race Relations and the Bi-Racial Committee, which was concerned with a Voorhees College disturbance in which black power militants seized control of the college facilities in 1967.

Parental Control Of Children's Television: An Exploration Of The Relationship Between Control And Family Home Evening, Marion Wixom Mccardell
Theses and Dissertations
This study was designed to examine the relationship between a secular behavior—television control—and a religious one—Family Home Evening. The findings show that there is a relationship, with those having favorable attitudes toward Family Home Evening and those who hold casual FHE's being most inclined to exercise positive control over their children's television viewing.

Assuring "Detached But Passionate Investigation And Decision": The Role Of Guardians Ad Litem In Saikewicz-Type Cases, Charles Baron
Charles H. Baron
The author focuses this Article upon the aspect of the Saikewicz decision which determines that the kind of "proxy consent" question involved in that case required for its decision "the process of detached but passionate investigation and decision that forms the ideal on which the judicial branch of government was created." This aspect of the decision has drawn much criticism from the medical community on the ground that it embroils what doctors believe to be a medical question in the adversarial processes of the court system. The author criticizes the decision from an entirely opposite perspective, arguing that the court's …
