The Evangelistic Methods Of Dwight L. Moody, Richard F. Wagner

Bachelor of Divinity

There is always a human side to every spiritual movement. It shall be the purpose of this thesis to discover the human side of Dwight L. Moody in relation to the methods which he used in his evangelistic activity. The word "evangelistic" in this thesis title means: that which pertains to winning others “to Christian discipleship”. The word “method” means: the devices, plans, procedures which are used in the dissemination of the Gospel; therefore, this thesis will concern itself with devices, plans, and procedures which were used by Dwight L. The Person Of Christ In The Epistle To The Phillippians, Henry Hamann Jun 1948

The Person Of Christ In The Epistle To The Phillippians, Henry Hamann

Bachelor of Divinity

Any references to his theology that might come in by the way would, it might be argued with some soundness, be all the more valuable as being unpremeditated, quite natural and unforced, and, accordingly, completely sincere and reliable. As a matter of fact; there are a number of references to Jesus Christ and what Paul thought of Him, among them one of the fullest statements Paul ever made on the subject, Phil. 2:5-11, a passage introduced quite unexpectedly, but at the same time with a certain unmistakable solemnity. These passages are sufficient in number and scope to present all the …

Hebrews- An Exegetical Study, James W. Mayer

Bachelor of Divinity

In my sketch of the conception of the Christian High-Priest found in Hebrews. I shall consider in the first part the person of Christ as suited to His High-priesthood, and in the second part Christ as performing the work of a High-priest. I shall stress the special emphasis of Christ as OFFERER and the OFFERING which He Brings. A comparison of the Christian High-priest with the high-priests under the Old Dispensation will not be dealt with in a separate chapter, but will be drawn incidentally as the argument progresses.

The Reformation Of Cranmer With Special Reference To Its Doctrine And The Influence Upon It, George S. Robbert

Bachelor of Divinity

At the time of Cranmer's youth end early schooling England was Catholic. At the time of his death, it was Protestant. How did this change take place and what were the motivating forces in this change? The opportunity for the break from Rome was given when Henry VIII sought a divorce from Catherine of Aragon in order to marry Anne Bolyen. Cranmer's part in the proceedings of the divorce brought him into the public eye and to a large extent made possible the Reformation of Cranmer. After the break with Rome Cranmer, who was easily influenced by his companions, maintained …

A Survey Of The Confirmation Instruction Of The Children Within A Pastoral Conference, Robert T. Koehler

Bachelor of Divinity

Confirmation .instruction of children is the foundation of the work of the pastor. During his period of contact with the catechumens he can strengthen the personal Christianity of the children. He has the children in the time of their lives when their minds are eager and susceptible. A good catechist through his instruction lays a solid foundation for a congregation of staunch believers in future years. Good confirmation instruction makes the preaching more efficient, makes the work with troubled souls easier, and increases the spirit of love between pastor and catechumens. A bad catechist will usually produce contrary results. The …

Methods Of Bible Reading And Study And Thei Critical Evaluation, Paul H. Strege

Bachelor of Divinity

The Bible has a special purpose in the world and, therefore, should be approached differently than any other book. The Psalmist shows us e proper attitude in the brief prayer: "Open Thou mine eyes, that I may hold wondrous things out of Thy law.” This prayer should be in the heart of every one of us every time we open or Bibles for reading or study. "Prayer is necessary to drive out the demon of indifference.”

Bachelor of Divinity

The Lutheran Church in the Canadian Northwest is made up of believers from all parts of Europe and the United States. In coming to this newly opened last American frontier as early as 1872 and continuing sporadically ever since, these immigrants brought their curious customs, costumes, languages and dialects with them. This strange mixture of prospective Lutheran Canadians was providentially gathered to make a church which "in spite of its confusing overlapping of unrelated synods and without the slightest semblance of compulsory discipline still has an amazing unity in diversity."

Principal Sects Of Islam: Their Orgin And Beliefs, John Gall May 1948

Principal Sects Of Islam: Their Orgin And Beliefs, John Gall

Bachelor of Divinity

The number of sects, however, far exceeds the number that Mohammed predicted. Some Moslem scholars have prepared lists of the sects of Mohammedanism so that they number exactly seventy-three. But they are hard pressed to scale the actual number down to that sum. Actually, the sects of Islam outnumber the Christian sects. Sheikh Abdul Kader stated that there were one hundred and fifty Mohammedan sects. Most of these believe that of all the sects only they have the correct way of salvation. There is much hatred, bloodshed and bitterness among them.

Luther's Attitude Towards Allegory, George Rode May 1948

Luther's Attitude Towards Allegory, George Rode

Bachelor of Divinity

Our purpose is not to answer the question whether allegory should be used or not. We do not wish to raise the question whether allegorical interpretation should find a place in our exegetical practise. Our purpose is to show what Luther thought of allegorical interpretation. We shall attempt to answer the question whether he considered it permissible to use allegory at any time. If allegory may be used, and we know that Luther made use of it until the last, then what are the principles, the rules, to which it must be subjected?

2. what kind of authority the Christians up to this date gave to these books; and,

3. whether any books other than those of our New Testament were given on equal authority.

History Of Protestant Missions In Nigeria, Arthur W. Machinske

When studying the history of missions in a certain country, it is necessary that a study be made of that country. The primary aim of this thesis is to establish, as far As that can be done, the basis for the canonicity of the Epistle of James. That problem really involves two questions. In the first place, does the Epistle come from Apostolic times? If it does not, then the problem is immediately settled, and the Epistle does not belong in our Bible. On the other hand, if it does come from Apostolic times, who is meant by the simple superscription “James, a servant of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ”?

The Nature And Purpose Of Our Savior's Miracles, Carl E. Mehlberg May 1948

The Nature And Purpose Of Our Savior's Miracles, Carl E. Mehlberg

Bachelor of Divinity

If we wish to know someone, we must study both his words and his actions. Since we cannot read his mind, we can only analyze what we can see and hear in order to learn who and what he is. From this it becomes evident, that the Person of Christ, Who and What He is, is involved in the question of miracles and their authenticity. They were, as St. John tells us, recorded to prove that Jesus "is the Christ, the Son of God". (Jn.20,31). If they are false, so also is Christ. He then becomes nothing more than an …
