Principal Figures, Activity Issues And Doctrines That Shaped Medieval Church Supremacy, Wayne Hallett
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
This paper will explore the principal figures, activities, issues and doctrines that shaped the ascent of the Medieval Church, with emphasis on the period from 1000 to 1300 A.D. Some of the important ground did begin earlier though, and influential concepts were carried forward from the Gospels, the early Church fathers, and writers such as St. Augustine. Monasticism, art, and pilgrimage and the veneration of relics and saints played important roles in promoting the goals of the Church and the molding of the Medieval mind. "Ho! For Drakes Creek': Something Ventured, Nothing Gained, Donna C. Parker
SCL Faculty and Staff Publications
On a January day in 1817 three men rode from South Union, Kentucky to a place in nearby Warren County called "the point." From the bluff above the creek, they could see the meandering waterway, fertile bottomlands, abundant timber, and the promise of a prosperous new enterprise. Seventeen days later they purchased the site and 300 surrounding acres. They represented the religious society known as the Shakers. With the Drakes Creek procurement, the main community’s South Union leaders planned to establish an outlying farm and operate a gristmill and a sawmill in Warren County.

Published literature suggests that religious coping strategies are used frequently and by all types of people in dealing with problems. Suggestions for future research and a personal statement concerning religious coping are also …

A Study On Wach's & Eliade's Approaches To Comparative Religion, Li Wang
A Study On Wach's & Eliade's Approaches To Comparative Religion, Li Wang
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The main viewpoints and methods of two important figures of tho "Chicago school" in the comparative study of religion, Wach and Eliade, are investigated, and then are discussed on three levels: the disciplinary, the philosophic,al, and the historical. Or the disciplinary level, their theoretical emphases and methodological characteristics are discerned. On the philosophical level, their presuppositions are classified by an "archic analysis," a scheme of one's philosophical orientation provided by Walter Watson. And on the historical level, their theories are examined against the concrete religious data of Chinese Buddhism. Finally, the conclusion is drawn from the analysis of the relations …

Natural Law & Right Reason In The Moral Theory Of St. Thomas Aquinas, Craig Boyd
Natural Law & Right Reason In The Moral Theory Of St. Thomas Aquinas, Craig Boyd
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
A major problem with current discussions on the moral theory of St. Thomas Aquinas is the fact that many interpreters present Thomas's thought as a natural-law morality. While natural law is an element of Thomas's moral theory, it plays a subordinate role to the virtue of prudence.
The natural law interpreters of St. Thomas's moral theory hold that (1) natural law is the dominant element, (2) natural law can be treated in isolation from Thomas's account of virtue, and (3) the principles of natural law make Thomas's moral theory abstract and deontological. These interpretations rarely consider the virtue of prudence. …
