It is an honor to submit an essay for this Festschrift for Father Frank Matera, who contributes so much to our professional lives as scholar and colleague. Because of his solicitude for elaborating responsible theological approaches to Scripture based on scholarly historical and literary foundations, I dedicate to him these theological investigations into the significance of monotheism in Paul’s Gentile mission in Acts. How does the mission of the Servant of God in Isaiah influence the portrayal in Acts of Paul’s witness to the one living God and rejection of pagan idolatry and worship?

Voices In Concert: Communication Ethnography Of Pentecostal Worship, Bruce C. Coats

We know little about communication in Pentecostal worship service outside of the practice of tongues-speech. Pentecostals uniquely interpret communicative activity as distinctive factors in their identity; yet no research identifies the unique national speech codes operating with the Pentecostal churches. This study applied decreased that knowledge gap using Philipsen's Speech Codes Theory to analyzing the structure and interpretation of Pentecostal worship services, analyzing individual congregations in relationship with local culture and situated within the national Pentecostal movement. While the name "Yves Congar" is recognizable by theologians and others there is a gap between recognition and familiarity: awareness that there was an Yves Congar is distinguished from knowing what he stood for and what he did. Eight years before Vatican II Congar was so distrusted by the Church that he was "distanced" from France for almost two years. Yet, several years after Vatican II he was elevated from priest to Cardinal in one day.

The Bible does not explicitly answer questions about co-creating with God and discerning whether to try to have children. In consulting Scripture regarding contemporary concerns, one needs to go beyond historical exegesis. Reading Scripture as God's Word requires seeking what God, the divine author of all of Scripture, is currently saying in the biblical passages under study.
