The introductory sermon was delivered by A.C. Irvin. The Committee on Education reports that the Shelby Female College continues to be a success. The Committee on Ministerial Support recommends that churches pay their pastors a timely salary.

The 1883 meeting of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association took place at Pleasant Grove Church (present day: Pleasant Grove Baptist Church) in Shelby, NC. The introductory sermon was delivered by G.P. Hamrick. The Southern Baptist Convention asked the Association to raise $160.00 towards a $75,000 overall goal from all fourteen southern states. Updates were provided as to the enrollment and needs of the Baptist Female College and Shelby High School.

The introductory sermon was delivered by P.R. Elam. The Committee on Associational Missions recommends more preaching support for areas between the Cleveland County line and the far Eastern parts of the Association. The Committee on Periodicals recommends circulation expansion for the Biblical Recorder in an effort to reach every family in their bounds.

The message delivered to the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1880, on behalf of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. The two separate denominations generally sent greetings or fraternal messages while they were operating separately. The pamphlet was published much later, and contains a biography of Carlisle, a note from Methodist Bishop Edwin D. Mouzon, and the text of the address. The address was published in this form in 1925 in the Alabama Christian Advocate, and then in pamphlet form around 1943
