This study was motivated by Skehanʼs (1996, 1998) hypothesis about the potential of post-task anticipation to direct learnersʼ attention towards form and previous online L2 collaborative writing research that found prioritization of meaning in this context. It investigated the effects of post-task anticipation on text length, accuracy and complexity, and learnersʼ perceived effects of anticipation, in online collaborative writing. Ninetyeight Thai EFL learners of English on an online university course were divided into control and experimental groups. The practice of narrow listening was introduced almost 30 years ago (Krashen, 1996), but has not received enough attention from English language teachers and researchers. Past research has placed a focus on the combination of this method and narrow reading, or the use of this method in teaching languages other than English. This study explored narrow listening as an independent method to improve EFL learners’ listening comprehension. This article reports on a single case study investigating the adoption of reading portfolio and video-mediated reflection tasks so as to promote Indonesian university studentsʼ engagement in dialogic reading. Nested in a classroom ethnography design, data were collected through multiple interviews, teaching journals, and studentsʼ Facebook-mediated interaction records. Drawing on thematic and discursive analysis, the findings showed that the reading portfolio and video-assisted reflection tasks encouraged the students to invest their time and energy into and engage in dialogic reading where collective meaning making practices took place. This study investigated the factors that lead the Novice Teacher (NT) towards selection, development, and use of learningteaching materials for classroom use. The participant in this study was a teacher trainee who had completed four years of the teacher training program in the university. She was randomly selected. This study aimed to determine how teachers’ online written corrective feedback (WCF) affected university students’ selfregulation in writing and how the effects differed among students of different English proficiency levels. The participants were 27 second-year university students enrolled in a required online writing course. Throughout the 16-week course, the students received online WCF on their writing through Google Docs. Results from pre- and post-questionnaires and interviews revealed the positive effects of teachers’ online WCF on students’ self-regulation in writing, especially those with mid- and low-proficiencies. Thesis defense presentation slides (TDPS) are a significant and unique genre in the final ritual of master’s students’ learning journey. However, few studies have explored this genre, especially its rhetorical structure, so students have scant knowledge of it. This study investigates the moves and steps of this genre focusing on their Introduction section. A move analysis was conducted of 20 TDPS introductions produced by Chinese master’s students in Applied Linguistics. Love is an emotion that typically brings joy. However, the ways in which society talks about love suggest otherwise. The process of metaphor analysis makes the violence in societal expressions of love salient. Additionally, metaphor analysis shows that violent metaphors can inform the way people interact with one another throughout the stages of relationship formation, such as using metaphors to justify sexual and other types of physical abuse. Thus, this paper argues that metaphors, by shaping our attitudes and expectations about love, sex, and relationships, have observable social and cultural implications.

This thesis project explores the phenomenological qualities of the internet; asking, since the internet is difficult to grasp, what other modes of investigation might we have available? Using an investigative framework set forth by Jack Halberstam, this thesis declines to come to knowledge solely through understanding the formal, the structural, the highly visible and mainstream.
