“Can art change the world?”

In his global art practice, French artist JR transforms overlooked communities into valued canvases. With an approach rooted in collaboration, JR’s large-scale public photographic installations integrate the built environment into a visual experience of human life.

In October, 2019, JR and his team entered the maximum security prison in Tehachapi, California to embark on a new collaborative project: “Tehachapi.” This paper explores the impact of “Tehachapi” as it extends beyond the physical photograph wheat-pasted on the floor of the prison’s courtyard to touch on issues of humanity, power and accessibility. Radical Queer Gazes : How Lesbian And Nonbinary Contemporary Photographers Are Destabilizing The Male Gaze, Eliza Mcdonough

Laura Mulvey’s 1975 essay Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema laid the groundwork for feminist theory surrounding the objectification of women in media by introducing the concept of the male gaze. Since its publication, theorists and critics have responded by proposing the possibility of alternate gazes such as the female gaze, the black gaze, and the queer gaze. This thesis will analyze those responses along with the psychoanalytical backing of Mulvey’s original theory to determine how the heteropatriachal structure Mulvey presents can be dismantled through alternative identity gazes. การถ่ายภาพเชิงเทคนิคเป็นเทคนิคการวิเคราะห์ชิ้นงานศิลปะแบบไม่ทำลายตัวอย่าง ซึ่งถูกใช้เป็นเครื่องมือสำหรับการวิเคราะห์และประเมินงานศิลปะ เช่น การตรวจสอบร่องรอยการซ่อมแซมชิ้นงาน การเลือกวิธีอนุรักษ์ให้เหมาะสมกับสภาพชิ้นงานนั้น การระบุกลุ่มของสารสีที่ใช้ในชิ้นงาน และการดูสิ่งที่ซ่อนอยู่ใต้ชั้นสีที่ตามนุษย์ไม่สามารถมองเห็น การถ่ายภาพเชิงเทคนิคนี้ใช้กล้องถ่ายภาพดิจิทัลที่ดัดแปลงโดยถอดฟิลเตอร์ที่ให้แสงขาวผ่านออก ทำให้กล้องถ่ายภาพสามารถเก็บข้อมูลคลื่นแม่เหล็กไฟฟ้าในช่วงความยาวคลื่นประมาณ 360 - 1,000 นาโนเมตร วิธีการถ่ายภาพสำหรับเทคนิคนี้ใช้แหล่งแสงและฟิลเตอร์สามชนิดที่แตกต่างกันจึงทำให้ต้องใช้เวลาในการเปลี่ยนแหล่งแสงและฟิลเตอร์ในขั้นตอนการถ่ายภาพ งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ในการพัฒนาระบบถ่ายภาพสำหรับการถ่ายภาพเชิงเทคนิค เพื่อลดเวลาที่ใช้และลดความยุ่งยากในขั้นตอนการถ่ายภาพ ด้วยการสร้างระบบกล้องคู่ ถ่ายภาพเชิงเทคนิคโดยใช้กล้องถ่ายภาพดิจิทัลปกติกับกล้องถ่ายภาพดิจิทัลที่ถูกดัดแปลงที่สามารถถ่ายภาพได้พร้อมกัน เปรียบเทียบระบบที่ใช้กล้องดิจิทัลสะท้อนภาพเลนส์เดี่ยวประสิทธิภาพสูง (DSLR) กับระบบที่ใช้กล้องดิจิทัลไร้กระจก ใช้เลนส์มุมกว้างและเลนส์มุมปกติ ระบบแนวตั้งและแนวนอน เปรียบเทียบคุณภาพของภาพ ทดสอบและแก้ไขความบิดเบี้ยวและปัญหาขอบมืด สร้างระบบกล้องคู่ 8 ระบบ เปรียบเทียบความคลาดเคลื่อนการกันภาพเหลื่อม กำหนดพื้นที่ใช้งานได้ สร้างตารางเปรียบเทียบระบบ ระบบที่ใช้กล้อง DSLR กับเลนส์มุมกว้างระบบแนวตั้งให้ผลลัพท์ที่ดีที่สุด และเมื่อใช้ร่วมกับแหล่งแสงอินฟราเรด 850 นาโนเมตร จะสามารถลดเวลาที่ใช้ในการถ่ายภาพได้ 47.1% เมื่อเทียบกับระบบกล้องเดี่ยว สามารถระบุสารสีได้ 4 ใน 5 ชนิด และได้สร้างโปรแกรมสำหรับการประมวลผลภาพจากระบบกล้องคู่

Visual Literacy Lesson Plan: Color Photography, Ian Mcdermott

Open Educational Resources

This session focuses on building subject knowledge in photography and finding background information on an artist. The lesson begins with students closely examining a photograph, following the Visual Thinking Strategies model (https://vtshome.org/). Following the exercise, students are divided into groups and select a monograph on a photographer. As a group, they research the photographer using the book and other library resources (subscription databases) and open web resources (artist’s website, museum websites). The session ends with student groups giving 2-5 minute presentations on a photographer.

Influenced by video games and cinema, in this body of work, Plausible Expositions with Possible Expeditions, I use objects to create scenarios that suggest a narrative. The scenes are then photographed and displayed through cathode-ray tube televisions and viewers use their own knowledge and ideas about the objects to create that narrative. Each of these objects has is own data set, and the most common have a universal data set—information surrounding the object that is widely recognized, much like how a crowbar is commonly associated with crime. This long-form journalistic story and photo essay is about the Blackfoot Tribes in the United States and Canada and their efforts to restore bison to their land, their diet, and their culture. In 2014, ten tribes from the United States and Canada came together at Blackfeet Nation in Browning, Montana to sign the Buffalo Treaty, a commitment to bringing wild buffalo back to parts of their historical range.
