The traditional notion of the Male Gaze, first conceptualized by feminist film critic Laura Mulvey in 1975, focused on the objectification of women through depictions structured to gratify a male heterosexual perspective. In this chapter we will revisit this concept and investigate how that gaze may have shifted away from a primarily heterosexual perspective to a socially dominant male perspective (maleness here referring to dominance rather than specific gender, just as “whiteness” might refer to privilege rather than race). The release of the Monument Avenue Commission Report in July, 2018 was the culmination of over one year of research and collaboration with community members of Richmond, Virginia on how the city should approach the contentious history of Monument Avenue’s five Confederate centerpieces. What the monuments have symbolized within the predominately rich, white neighborhood and outside of its confines has been a matter of debate ever since they were unveiled, but the recent publicity accorded to Confederate monuments has led to considerations by historians, city leaders, and the public regarding recontextualization of Confederate monuments.

The Google Expedition titled WWI Era Through the Eyes of the Chicago Defender explores African American experiences during the early years of the Great Migration (1910-1970). Conventional journalism relies on the false idea that journalists are meant to be, and can be, objective, outside observers. This report provides tools for journalists to create more nuanced, thorough storytelling endeavors. This report describes the theoretical framework and intent of the Virtual Reality (VR) project for students in grades 8 and above. “Digital Image Retouching: Evaluation Assignment” was developed in the context of a 2017-18 CTL sponsored mini-grant where the course HUA 231 Digital Photography II, which was formerly an elective, was redesigned as a required course in the Photography program. As part of the mini grant work, program’s curriculum map was also adjusted to reflect the changes. The students in HUA 231 are usually in their second to last semester as this is an advanced digital class. They have taken the pre-requisite HUA 131 (Digital Photography I) in earlier semesters. "And Nothing She Needs": Victoria's Secret And The Gaze Of "Post-Feminism", Marc Ouellette

A study of the Victoria’s Secret catalogues, which frames the period 1996-2006, reveals that the models’ poses and postures manipulate the formulaic gaze of objectification with seemingly empowering themes. Instead of the indeterminate, averted looks that Berger (1972) and Mulvey (1989) considered in their analyses, the more recent versions of Victoria’s Secret photographs confront viewers with pouts, glares, and stares of defiance. In this essay, I contribute to current conversations regarding mixed messages that concern post-feminism and third-wave feminism (Duffy, Hancock, & Tyler, 2017; Glapka, 2017; McAllister & DeCarvalho, 2014; McRobbie, 2009). การพิมพ์ฉลากสินค้ามีจุดประสงค์หลักเพื่อโฆษณาสินค้าให้ดึงดูดความสนใจจากผู้บริโภค ดังนั้นการพิมพ์สีพิเศษนอกจากการพิมพ์สอดสี CMYK จึงมีความจำเป็นอย่างยิ่ง โดยสีพิเศษนี้จะต้องได้รับการผสมและเทียบสีกับสีตั้งต้นมาตรฐานที่ได้จากเจ้าของผลิตภัณฑ์หรือผู้ออกแบบ ขั้นตอนวิธีของกระบวนการผสมและเทียบสีใช้วิธีลองและวนทำซ้ำ เป้าหมายของกระบวนการคือ ความรวดเร็ว ความเที่ยงตรงและแม่นยำ งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบประสิทธิภาพการทำนายสีหมึกพิมพ์ยูวีเฟล็กโซกราฟีบนฉลากพอลิโพรพิลีนโดยใช้โครงข่ายประสาทเทียมแบบ Multilayer perceptron (MLP) และโดยใช้ซอฟต์แวร์ทำนายสีเชิงพาณิชย์ ฐานข้อมูลหมึกพิมพ์สำหรับใช้การทำนายสูตรสีของทั้ง 2 วิธีมีความแตกต่างกัน แต่เกิดจากสีปฐมภูมิ 8 สีเหมือนกัน สำหรับซอฟต์แวร์ทำนายสีเชิงพาณิชย์นั้น ใช้ฐานข้อมูลหมึกพิมพ์ที่เตรียมจากสีปฐมภูมิ 7 สีนำมาเจือจางด้วยมีเดียมให้มีความเข้มข้น 8 ระดับ (รวมความเข้มข้นที่ 100 เปอร์เซ็นต์) แล้วนำมาพิมพ์บนฉลากพอลิโพรพิลีน จากนั้นวัดค่าการสะท้อนแสงเพื่อนำไปคำนวณสัมประสิทธิ์การดูดกลืนแสงและสัมประสิทธิ์กระเจิงแสง สำหรับโครงข่ายประสาทเทียมแบบ MLP ใช้ฐานข้อมูลหมึกพิมพ์ที่เตรียมจากการผสมสีปฐมภูมิ 2 สีเข้าด้วยกัน (จากทั้งหมด 7 สี) ให้เป็นสีทุติยภูมิที่สัดส่วนต่าง ๆ กันเป็นจำนวน 159 สี และสีตติยภูมิที่เกิดจากการผสมสีปฐมภูมิ 3 สีที่สัดส่วนต่าง ๆ กันเป็นจำนวน 105 สี จากนั้นพิมพ์ลงฉลากพอลิโพรพิลีน และวัดค่าการสะท้อนแสงเช่นเดียวกัน จากนั้นสุ่มฐานข้อมูลสี 80 เปอร์เซ็นต์มาฝึกสอนโครงข่ายประสาทเทียม (training set) โดยมีการปรับเปลี่ยนจำนวนยูนิตซ่อน (hidden unit) เพื่อความเหมาะสม จากนั้นทดสอบการทำนายและเทียบสีโดยใช้ทั้งซอฟต์แวร์ทำนายสีเชิงพาณิชย์และโครงข่ายประสาทเทียม ด้วยชุดสีทดสอบจำนวน 15 สี เปรียบเทียบค่าความต่างสี (ΔE*94) ระหว่างชุดสีทดสอบและสีที่เกิดจากการทำนาย เปรียบเทียบเวลาที่ใช้ในการเตรียมฐานข้อมูลและต้นทุน พบว่าการทำนายสีด้วยวิธีโครงข่ายประสาทเทียมมีความแม่นยำในการทำนายสีดีกว่าเนื่องจากค่าความต่างสีน้อยกว่า แต่มีข้อเสียคือใช้เวลาในการเตรียมฐานข้อมูลมากกว่าจึงส่งผลให้มีต้นทุนที่สูงกว่า ในขณะที่ความรวดเร็วในการทำนายสีใกล้เคียงกัน

Fabricating conductive materials on electrode of electronic devices with printing techniques continues to gain popularity, including 3D printing especially Liquid Deposition Modelling (LDM) technology which is being interested in electronics industry. This research applied LDM 3D printing to fabricate nano-Titanium dioxide (TiO₂) thin film on an electrode or anode. The aim of research was to study the effect of parameters for setting the printer, such as nozzle size, printing speed, air pressure and nozzle distance from the electrode surface, on the quality of TiO₂ thin film and related sheet resistance. Silver Sands is a thirty-minute documentary film and accompanying installation that traces the story of Marc Hampton, a gay, desert-dwelling Vietnam vet, former Playgirl model, and vintage car collector who lost two lovers to AIDS. Drawing on videotaped interviews, shots of his house and environs, and extensive use of his personal photographic archive, this work addresses evolving ideas of memory and representation within the queer community. The film is divided into various chapters which function as meditations on masculinity, aging, loss, spirituality and intergenerational relationships. Marc becomes an archetypal figure––the survivor––whose meandering recollections illustrate some of the complexities of gay …

The Wild Beasts springs from my desire to thank my ever-expanding queer chosen family and mentors for their strength. Working through the often violent and othering aspects of the lens and photographic histories I create floral portraits responding to each person’s being and our relationship. Using the 19th century, 8x10 large format view camera—the same used by colonialists and ethnographers to “capture” the divinity of Nature—I erect each as a traditional still life studio setup at the threshold between the natural world and that constructed by humans. The urge to uncover aspects of human condition permeates my work, from the fundamental curiosity of a child tearing apart their doll to uncover what lies within to continuing a quest in uncovering basic human urges through my puppet animated dramas and tragedies. There is a controversial line between the childlike and the adult-like that can be ambiguous, and at some times more discernible while other times less. I create handcrafted stop-frame puppet animations that explore self-conscious emotions such as embarrassment, shame, and envy within unpredictable life scenarios. The John R. Schorb Papers include 49 prints and over 200 glass plate negatives, daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tin types taken by John Schorb and his son George. The images vary in size and subject. Most are portraits, but there are also images of various family members, scenes around York, South Carolina, and self portraits. The images range in date from the late 1850s to the early 1900s.
