"It was the summer of 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand, that Shiga photographed couples on motorbikes. In this city Shiga exchanged glances with hundreds and thousands of people on the back seat of motorbikes. The camera seemed to be the ideal tool for getting closer to that strange feeling of receiving glances without physically connecting with them. Inspired by Kathe Kollwitz′s iconic etching from the Peasant War series, ″Outbreak from Bauernkrieg,″ this exhibition underscores the human condition. Taking queue from Kollwitz′s print, which depicts the effects of poverty, war and hunger on the working class, curators Emily Brostek and Claudia Preza bring together a group show of contemporary art works that dignify their subjects and depict triumph over oppressive socio-political conditions.

Leonard was forced to join the military at the age of 17 in his home country of the Congo. A Catholic priest smuggled me out of the country and I lived in refugee camps in several different countries until 2004 when he came to the United States.

In 2005, a couple came to Leonard when he was homeless in the Provo library. They found out that he needed help and offered to let me live with them. They ended up paying my tuition for my education and I went to college for five years.

Adoptability And Acceptability Of Peace Journalism Among Afghan Photojournalists: Lessons For Peace Journalism Training In Conflict-Affected Countries, Saumava Mitra

In this article, I seek to inform Peace Journalism (PJ) edu­cation and training in conflict-affected countries in par­ticular. Based on a case study of the professional expe­riences of Afghan photojournalists, I offer insights into the acceptability and adoptability of PJ practice by jour­nalists from conflict-affected countries. I present six key findings of a larger study on Afghan photojournalists in this article and discuss the lessons they hold for PJ train­ing in conflict-affected countries. Sheldon Museum of Art: Catalogs and Publications

The museum invited fifteen individuals from the university community—faculty, students, staff, administrators—to each choose a photograph from Sheldon’s permanent collection and write a brief reflection on or response to the work. The selected images span history, genres, and styles, just as the participants represent diverse intellectual and creative interests on campus. Equally varied are the reflections themselves. Some participants describe qualities that have drawn them to particular images; others consider the ways art provides a fresh lens for their specialized work in other disciplines.

This thesis examines the formal and conceptual framework of my artistic practice as it culminated in the installation of my thesis exhibition, Prime, Perform, Recover. My exhibition seeks to operate as an analysis and critique of the separation inherent in media presentation and rhetoric surrounding natural disasters.

I utilize the aesthetics and vocabulary of disaster capitalism and prepping culture in order to pose direct questions about ecological and social change.
