Understanding Unconventional Beauty Through Nature And Handmade Photography, Anna Trombley
Understanding Unconventional Beauty Through Nature And Handmade Photography, Anna Trombley
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
Mass media has notoriously censored certain bodies, warping public views of what is acceptable versus what needs fixing. My work is motivated by body image and embracing aspects of unconventional beauty, such as cellulite, stretch marks, and fat rolls that are underrepresented yet oh-so-common. I believe the male gaze and advertising have instilled harmful misconceptions that there’s a right way to have a body; I aim to neutralize internalized shame and provoke curiosity about where our ideas of beauty stem from.
Using 19th-century methods like film and cyanotype, I capture the serenity between body and nature. Handmade photography rewards with …

The word Triduum comes from the Latin words for three days. Through word and image, we remember the last days of Jesus’ life and seek an encounter with the Paschal Mystery. We recall Jesus’ prayer at Gethsemane and his suffering and death on the cross. We come to the tomb in sorrow with the women to anoint our Lord in the cold stone tomb. In joy and wonder, we encounter the Risen Christ on Easter morning. Nothing will ever be the same again.

Unknown, Katryna Bertucci
Unknown, Katryna Bertucci
Obsculta
“Unknown” explores inner emotions about death and the other side, artistically representing self-discovery and faith with “unknown” aspects of the afterlife as the theme. Death is a perplexing yet imminent part of our lives and experiences. This series calls to attention the idea that the unknown can be seen with a sense of fear or with a feeling of peace; the choice is up to us. There is also no black and white answer, only stages of middle gray. Not knowing what truly comes ahead, I am working on surrendering to the mystery and faith of it all.

Yuxuan Wang - “Mirror”: This picture was taken on the Lofoten Islands in Norway. It was picturesque, the beauty of these islands was simple, pure and breathtaking. It was hard to describe with words, so I chose to capture it with my camera. Five minutes after I took this picture, a boat came across on the little river, and the water surface was never a perfect mirror for the sky and mountain again. “Fairies Under Water”: These jellyfish in the picture are moon jellyfish from Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco. The colorful lights in the water made the …
