This article explores the merit of using Organic Inquiry, a qualitative research approach that is most effectively applied to areas of psychological and spiritual growth. Organic Inquiry is a research approach where the psyche of the researcher becomes the instrument of the research, working in partnership with the experiences of participants and guided by liminal and spiritual influences. Organic Inquiry is presented as a unique methodology that can incorporate other non-traditional research methods, including intuitive, autoethnographic and creative techniques. In Glut and Guzzle I explore my relationship with my partner, our sexualities and how to navigate these outside of the LDS faith of my childhood, and their struggles with gender, sexual expression and mental illness. This exploration landed on seductive and repulsive imagery of food and body. I use color, texture and size as a tool similar to visual tools of advertising to seduce my viewer. Abstract

Photographic imagery can transport a person mentally and emotionally to another place or another time, and create connections to people, memories, or experiences. A photograph can also conjure emotions or serve as a metaphor for something wholly unrelated to the image but triggered in our minds by our own history and impression of the image. Photographs can capture transitions and expanses of time by showing the movement of light, or via comparison in a series of images taken over periods of time.

One’s identity is shaped by many factors such as race, culture, physical appearance, nationality, and religion—amongst many more. As an artist, the subjugation of identity in the context of race, gender, and sexuality is a world I examine closely. Subverting myths of sexual deviancy and racial inferiority that perpetually pathologizes Black feminine sexuality, I often use and reference my own body to create avenues of power through physical and intellectual pleasure. In the research driven project I Hear You Now, I See You Then, I refer to the contemporary and historical erasure of the labor of African American women using research gathered from the southern plantation economy to create an art installation. The objects in this installation are primarily made with artificial hair integrations and utilizing labor intensive methods that are similar to those used to install the hair on the Black body. “A place for us” explores constructions of the home in relation to the LGBT+ experience through reappropriated and recontextualized found images sourced from articles of print culture such as newspapers, advertisements, publications such as Better Homes and Gardens, National Geographic, Time and others printed from the 1960’s onward. As of 2020, there are no federal laws that provide universal protections against housing or employment discrimination faced by LGBT+ people in the United States. À grand renfort de photographies, les médias occidentaux se sont emparés ces dernières années de la question environnementale, à travers de nombreuses images censées restituer la crise environnementale en cours. Car le médium photographique permet de témoigner, mais aussi de fixer les conséquences de la crise environnementale, que ce soit par une approche documentaire, objective ou conceptuelle. Alors que le discours écologique s’essouffle et que les discours politiques du climat restent sans effets, la photographie contemporaine relance le débat en nous touchant au cœur, faisant réveiller nos énergies intérieures, et ainsi nous convaincre de notre capacité à changer le monde.
