The RISD Rag was a student publication released in the spring of 1972, first on a monthly basis and later on a bi-weekly basis. The issue of January 1972 included an article about the local food co-ops, and the lack of diversity in the RISD faculty and at the RISD Museum. Support was wanted for farm workers and there was an appeal for a sick child. Voter registration information was listed for each state and parking ticket information for Providence was provided. The issue of January 6, 1971 included an article by Eldridge Cleaver of the Black Panthers about Bobby Seale. There were other articles about social, politcal and economic change. Also there was a brief article about Wintersession Committee from a student's perspective.

The issue of October 26, 1970 is misprinted as November 26th and included an interview with Gordy Allen, head of RISD student affairs. There also were articles about Black art with Barry Gaither and RISD student board and constitution and the Strike Committee. Poems, photos of musicans at the RISD farm, and a calendar of events for RISD students were also included.

The issue of March 2, 1970 included a letter from Barry Kirschenbaum, art history faculty at EHP in Rome. There was a small article about Operation Pilgrimage which was a weekend of classes and activities for students to visit RISD. The Designer's News was a student-run weekly newspaper published in the late 1960s. The issue of May 19-25, 1969 featured an article about the RISD Landscape Architecture department's study to save Block Island, RI. There also was an interview with John Torres about summer programs at RISD and at a school in Vermont, and an article about a RISD photo student who taught local pre-teens about photography. Also included was an article about the Rhode Island Art Festival and some RISD students who were volunteering their time to help.

The Designer was a student newspaper published in 1942. Three issues remain today. The first two issues are written by typewriter on loose sheaves of paper. The issue of May 12-18, 1969 included articles about Apparel Design's annual show Collection 1969, and an article about Man and his Technology, a seminar that was attended by 250 people. There was a brief article about racial troubles at Hope High School in Providence that was from a publication called EXTRA. Comics, ads, letters and art exhibits were also mentioned.
