Many Americans picture the U.S.’s Western most border to be the coast of California. However, when threats have historically formed in the Pacific, U.S. Pacific Island territories have served as the nation’s first line of defense. Today, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have slowly but ambitiously deployed new age or ‘unrestricted’ warfare tactics against the United States and allies in their long awaited plan to assume global hegemony. Their illegal infiltration and psychological operations have gone past Taipei and reached American soil in Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. The Embodiment Of Responsibility: “Confession” And “Compensation” In Mount Hagen, Papua New Guinea, Andrew Strathern, Pamela J. Stewart
Pacific Studies
We discuss two contexts of responsibility for action in Mount Hagen, confession and compensation. Verbal confessions of either wrongdoing or resentment against wrongdoing are important signs of the exercise of agency, but if they are not made, it is expected that sickness will result. “Substance” thus takes over where “agency” fails, and the two are intimately linked. Compensation payments can be seen as nonverbal equivalents of confession or the logical result of it, and if they are not paid, sickness or a failure of wounds to heal is thought to be likely as a result. The Subsidization Of Emperor Mines Limited, Roman Grynberg, Peter Fulcher, Peter Dryden

The relationship existing between the Emperor group of companies and the government of Fiji is examined over a forty-year period. During a substantial part of this time the company has been subsidized by the state. Focus is on one particular period, beginning in the early 1980s when the company received taxfree status for its gold-mining operations in Fiji. The study attempts to quantify the value of subsidies offered to Emperor Mines Limited under the terms of the Vatukoula tax agreement between the state and the mining company.
