This annotated bibliography is meant for you – the person who wishes to learn more about electronic music and its roots. I argue that electronic music is a legitimate form of music, and despite films depicting machines and robots as cold and lifeless they have the potential to be humanistic and wonderfully expressive. Perhaps one day, sooner than later, electronic instruments will be quintessential for orchestras in the near future. Until that day these series of sources are critical in informing electronic music enthusiasts the history behind electronic music and synthetic sound.

Nathan Eakin (1932-2000) first began the Gaylord Music Library Necrology file as a card file in the mid-1980s. In 1991, the project moved to a word processing file and in 1995, became available as a web page. The column formerly published in the Music Library Association’s journal, Notes, called the Necrology Index, was extracted from this Necrology file. Library Assistant Paul Hahn continued to update the necrology on the Gaylord Music Library’s website through 2018.

Because of its importance in the life of a believer, music should aid in the sanctification process. The debate concerning the use of contemporary music in church worship contexts arises from the belief that musical styles can either encourage or discourage the sanctification of a believer by influencing emotions. The efficiency of music for the purpose of sanctification should be considered by the listener. Music that is associated with unbiblical influences and intentions may not be fit for use in worship settings.
