Alzheimer's Disease And The Impact Of Music Therapy: A Systematic Literature Review, Hayley Guess
James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal (JMURJ)
Although a cure for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has yet to be discovered, several non-pharmacological treatments can improve patients’ quality of life and provide temporary relief from the disabling symptoms. One of these treatments is music therapy. This systematic literature review evaluates the existing research on the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and music therapy, with a narrowed focus on familiar music therapy, the potential mechanisms of action that explain the efficacy of this intervention, and the resulting nursing implications that may be utilized in practice. A search of the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) database returned …

The Effects Of Music Therapy Techniques On Clients In A Substance Abuse Group, Moyosore Fabiyi
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of music therapy on clients with substance abuse history attending group sessions in a behavioral health facility. Specifically, the mechanism by which lyric analysis or the musical component may lead to positive therapeutic outcomes was examined. In order to assess the effectiveness of music therapy techniques, a comparison was made between conditions of music alone, lyric analysis alone and music with lyric analysis. One may be able to argue that the mechanism by which music therapy affects clients may lay within the music itself and clients listening to that music. …

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects
The prevalence of adolescents with emotional or behavioral disorders (EBD) is growing by the year, and schools and diagnostic clinicians are having difficulty agreeing on the definition of the terms and diagnoses that fit into the EBD category. As these discrepancies in definitions and requirements can trickle down and affect treatment, it is important to find lasting, effective treatment that can help reduce disruptive behaviors that are often present for children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders. This study highlighted two music therapy interventions that are designed to focus on emotional identification, goal setting and the therapeutic relationship. The …

The Effect Of Group Music Therapy On Patient Satisfaction In A Behavioral Health Setting, Madelyn L. Laprade
Theses and Dissertations--Music
Patient satisfaction has become increasingly important to medical facilities as a result of reimbursement rates being tied to patient satisfaction scores. Music therapy’s potential to enhance patient satisfaction scores has been explored and several studies exist examining its impact in the medical setting. No studies exist, however, examining how music therapy contributes to patient satisfaction scores in the behavioral health setting. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare overall patient satisfaction scores of inpatient psychiatric patients who received group music therapy services with those at the same facility who did not receive group music therapy services.
Participants who …
