Khruangbin On Tour, Meghan Eileen Connolly

My senior project, Khruangbin On Tour, creates the opportunity to ideate and promote Khruangbin’s, a three-person band, tour through branding and merchandise. The goal is to create visuals, such as a poster or t-shirt design, to complement their songs and the band as a whole through the use of color palettes, typography, objects and illustrations. The music’s feeling and aesthetic should be reflected in the visual aspects as it represents the artist overall and speaks to the audience.

There are many Jussi Bjorling recital discs available, and given the unique beauty of his singing it would be foolish to recommend one (or, in this case, two) as the one to have. I will say, however, that this is a treasure, and is certainly one of the best collections available. Some of the songs and arias appear more than once over the 54 tracks. But it is even interesting to hear the differences in interpretation over the 17-year span of his career represented here.

During the mid-1940's, when I was a teenager growing up in Roanoke, Virginia, I somehow or other chanced upon opera. During the afternoon radio broadcast period usually devoted to such enthralling boys' adventure serials as "Jack Armstrong," "Captain Midnight," and "The Green Hornet," a local station transmitted a condensed Aida over several days; this captured my imagination and interest. Then I found the Saturday afternoon Metropolitan Opera broadcasts, and would listen to them whenever I had the chance. Romantic art is a high example of lyrical-psychological, vital-truthful embodiment of the inner spiritual world of a person. The attraction to figurative concreteness, the desire to fill the sound of the piano with emotional warmth and intonation expressiveness, the colorful characteristics of different keys, characteristic of romantic composers, are fertile material for performers.
