Playing For The "Father Of Lights" The Musical Philosophy Of Pedro Eustache, Betania Canas

Honors Scholars & Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium Programs

Known for his multidimensional and interdisciplinary work with notable musicians such as Yanni and Hans Zimmer, Venezuelan-American flutist and instrumentalist Pedro Eustache has mastered an astounding number of woodwinds and musical styles during his lifetime, from jazz to classical to several genres of global music. What is less known about him, however, is that he is a devoted Christian whose faith deeply influences his artistry and work ethic. The current project seeks to be the first scholarly exploration of Eustache's philosophy of music through an examination of published interviews, essays, and videos found online and in the musical press.

The Cummings collection includes his work as a song writer and publisher: 75 stand-alone songs, approximately 40 booklets of his songs, and 18 books he published with his own songs and those of other artists. There are also approximately 420 song books (336 unique titles) from other publishers, 23 of which contain at least one of Cummings' songs. Jake Runestad, An American Triptych: A Conductor's Guide, Neviton Barros

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Jake Runestad is a fresh voice within the new wave of successful twenty-first century American choral composers. Among the growing number of very popular works within his expanding opus, Runestad has compiled three of his independently conceived compositions into a cycle he titles, American Triptych. The determination to group these works together in a cycle, Reflections (2016), The Piece of Wild Things (2013), and Come to the Woods (2015), was largely based on a common textual thread since all three authors are naturalist writers – Henry David Thoreau, Wendell Berry, and John Muir.

What Is "Around Me" In 2020?, Hannah Heaton

Undergraduate Research Conference

The title of my composition that I am using for this performance presentation is "Around Me." It is a solo violin work performed by Dr. Serena Scibelli, a music professor from the University of North Georgia, and composed by me, Hannah Heaton. Serena Scibelli requested if I could write a solo violin work for her upcoming album that would be a reminder of reflection through music during the 2020 Pandemic. I intend to take this work and show any listener how they can relate with my piece, “Around Me.”
