A collection of letters to Mary DeSchmidt Jarboe from Marcia, Henry, and Fred Crane, along with a book and papers from the MKT (Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad) Municipal Band Association.

Mary M. DeSchmidt Jarboe (1905-2002) was a musician who taught music from the age of 16 until she retired in 1970. During her life, Mary studied with music teachers in Parsons, Pittsburg, and Kansas City. Mary was the organist for the St. Mary’s and St. Patrick’s Catholic Churches and she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. In general, this study was conducted to discuss about a classically trained singers in pop singing among professional singers in Malaysia. Therefore, this study is limited only to classically trained singers in singing modern pop’s genre based on vocal techniques and vocal health. The respondents consisted of 5 Malaysian singers who are well trained classically and have experienced in both education and music industry singing pop songs. The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy

Gracie Fisher, an artist and composer based in Santa Barbara, California, provided the cover art for the Fall 2020 edition of The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy (OJOT). “The Fruit of Spirit” is a 16” x 20” oil painting on canvas. When a rare neurologic condition left Gracie paralyzed from the neck down, art and music helped to heal her mind and soul. Upon returning home from the hospital, Gracie’s wish was to create an inclusive environment where children of all abilities could engage in art and music. She founded the Grace Fisher Foundation so others could experience the healing …

This chapter reflects on the Dublin indie and dance music scenes from 2000 to 2017 and examines the everyday reality of being a musician or DJ and the pathways to becoming a regular performer in Dublin over that same period. In the climate of declining gig attendance, closing venues and music piracy, I trace the digitally shaped economic reality for musicians in Dublin over the period 2000–2017. I extrapolate how musicians have made money to pay for the expense of sustaining a career as a musician, such as equipment and production costs, and I investigate how they earned money to …

As a native of Slovakia, Dr. Kemble has always been inspired by the cultural and mesmerizing aspects of music, especially when it comes to chamber music. A versatile performer, Aleksandra holds flute-teaching positions at Andrew’s University (MI), Indiana’s University of South Bend (IN), Goshen College (IN), and St. Mary’s College (IN) and is the principal flutist of the Elkhart Symphony (IN). Examination Of The Evolution Of Multi-Percussion, Thomas Alexander Robertson

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

The twentieth century belonged to percussion. In previous centuries, percussion performed a supporting function with its primary role being to accentuate chordal changes and reinforce the beat. By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries orchestras expanded in size and instrumentation with percussion taking on a more prominent role, particularly in the works of composers such as Debussy, Stravinsky, and Mahler. It was at this moment in time that percussion assumed a new and unique role to express changes in colour and timbre, alongside its rhythmic function. The percussion repertoire of the twentieth century reflected the Zeitgeist, and composers exploited …

Handel’S Messiah: Stepping Stones Between Now And Then, Ariela Policastro, Emma Boze, Nathan Maras

2020 Festschrift: Georg Frideric Handel's "Messiah"

Original style and intent of period music can often be lost as modern performers attempt to recreate a centuries-old composition. In this paper Messiah by George Frideric Handel is discussed, offering insight in how to perform this piece while still honoring the full integrity of what the composer intended. Through an examination of past and current performances and opinions, it becomes clear that there are many distinct differences in ways this oratorio has been performed including stylistic choices, instrumentation, religious affiliation, and more.

Composing Irishness: Remembrances Of The Irish Past Through The Prism Of The Present In Music By Donnacha Dennehy (B. 1970) And Jennifer Walshe (B. 1974), Timothy Diovanni

Although modern remembrances in the fields of literature, theatre, poetry, and the visual arts have received considerable scholarly attention in Ireland since the publication of History and Memory in Modern Ireland in 2001, similar activities in an Irish art music context remain unexplored. This thesis addresses this lacuna in examining how the contemporary Irish composers Donnacha Dennehy (b. 1970) and Jennifer Walshe (b. 1974) have remembered, reimagined, and reinvented the past to communicate their positions on Irish history and modern Irish society, as well as to respond to recent historical and curatorial practices.
