Is there any really good way to locate specific pieces of guitar music within published collections and anthologies? Might there be already a best way? Anyone who has taught or studied classical guitar is familiar with collections like Das Gitarrespiel or the Noad anthologies. But it is hard to remember with accuracy which pieces are in which of these editions or in dozens of others like them. Library and trade catalogs are not of much help. What is needed for this problem is in-depth indexing rather than traditional cataloging. These print indexes of song anthologies and collections have more recently …

For over sixty years, guitarists of my generation have been familiar with the so-called Segovia Scales—the systematic scale fingerings advocated by the Andalusian maestro. The fundamental purpose of teacher professional development programs is to improve instructional effectiveness and increase student learning. However, the target district offered no programs that focused on helping teachers develop strategies to meet state standards in music education. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate elementary and middle school music educators' perceptions regarding the need for targeted professional development programs. The music of Nikolai Medtner was neglected during his lifetime and has remained so after his death. While his piano sonatas and fairy tales receive occasional exposure, his 106 art songs are almost never heard. This monograph examines five of the 27 songs that he, himself, recorded. It is hoped that these analyses will convince readers that his most neglected genre is worthy of study and performance. A biography of the composer lays out possible reasons for his neglect, including his principled avoidance of the commercial aspects of the music business, writing in a post-Romantic style during an era that …

Music Education researchers face the same challenge of producing valid, reliable, and thorough work as any field in education. A content analysis was conducted on the Journal of Research in Music Education from 2011-2016 to determine what research trends were occurring and whether or not those trends are continuations of existing literature. Investigation included distributions of research designs as well as the four components Crotty recommended for quality research. Findings supported previous research indicating more qualitative studies within the journal. Almost universally, the saxophone struggled to gain acceptance in the early years following its invention; however, the obstacles faced were much more arduous in some places than others. The saxophone faced many serious impediments to acceptance, especially in the non-democratic 20th-century countries of China and the Soviet Union. It is the purpose of this research to explore the institutional roadblocks, their removal, and to profile the people responsible for the subsequent development of formidable pedagogical saxophone traditions in recent years.

The purpose of this study was to investigate self-reported metacognitive habits among collegiate piano majors. It examined the degree to which participants comprehend and employ practice strategies, recognize their own strengths and weaknesses in learning and performing, accurately predict a performance outcome, and self-evaluate following a performance. A total of twelve (N = 12) participants, six (N = 6) undergraduate and six (N = 6) graduate piano majors, enrolled in applied lessons at the University of South Carolina School of Music volunteered to participate in this study. Assessment, leading to informed decisions, is an integral part of music education and may be a means to justify the importance of music as a valued content subject (Brophy, 2000). The purpose of this study was to describe the elementary general music assessment practices in Iowa. The study was framed using Stiggins’ (2005) categorical definition of assessment as gathering, organizing, summarizing, and reporting data. งานวิจัยเรื่อง กรรมวิธีการสร้างซอด้วงของช่างมาโนช ผุดผ่อง มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาประวัติการสร้างซอด้วงของช่างมาโนช ผุดผ่อง ศึกษากรรมวิธีการสร้างซอด้วงและปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงซอด้วง โดยใช้วิธีในการเก็บข้อมูลลงศึกษาภาคสนามในฐานะลูกมือช่างเป็นเวลา 6 เดือน ผลการศึกษาพบว่าช่างมาโนช ผุดผ่องได้เริ่มศึกษาการสร้างซอด้วงใจรักดนตรีไทยแต่ไม่มีโอกาสได้เรียน จึงเป็นแรงผลักดันให้ช่างมาโนชค้นคว้าศึกษาด้วยตนเองจนประสบความสำเร็จในการสร้างซอด้วงเป็นที่รู้จักทั่วประเทศ สถาบันการศึกษาหลายแห่งให้ความสนใจที่จะมาศึกษาดูงานการสร้างซอ พันธุ์ไม้ที่ใช้ทำซอด้วงของช่างมาโนช ผุดผ่อง มีทั้งหมด 5 ชนิด คือ ไม้มะเกลือ ไม้ชิงชัน ไม้กระพี้เขาควาย ไม้แก้ว และไม้ดำดง การสร้างซอด้วงมีวัสดุและอุปกรณ์ทั้งหมด 45 ชนิด มีกรรมวิธีการสร้างทั้งหมด 8 ขั้นตอนคือ การเตรียมกระบอกซอด้วง การขึ้นหนังซอด้วง การกลึงคันทวนซอด้วง การกลึงลูกบิด การขึ้นหางม้า การกลึงคันชักซอด้วง การประกอบซอด้วง การแต่งเสียงซอด้วง ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงซอด้วงของช่างมาโนช ผุดผ่อง มี 5 ขั้นคือ 1. การกลึงกระบอกซอด้วงจะต้องใช้บุ้งตะไบด้านในให้ผิวไม่เรียบ 2.การใช้หนังงูที่มีขนาดตัวยาว 4 เมตรขึ้นไปและจะใช้เฉพาะช่วงหลังเท่านั้น 3. การขึ้นหางม้าจะให้หางม้ามีลักษณะแบนไม่กลม 4.การคัดเลือกหางม้า ช่างมาโนช ผุดผ่อง ช่างใช้หางม้าที่นำเข้าจากประเทศมองโกเลีย คุณสมบัติของหางม้านั้นมีเส้นขนที่หนากว่าม้าประเทศไทย 5.หย่อง มีขนาด 1 เซนติเมตร ช่างใช้ไม้ไผ่ที่ทำตะเกียบที่ผ่านการอมน้ำมันแล้วเพราะคุณสมบัติของไม้ไผ่ที่อมน้ำมันนั้น ช่วยให้เสียงซอมีความดังกังวาน
