Sacred music has long been a staple of American public school music repertoire, even since the beginnings of school music in the nation. This text provides information for music educators to use as a defense of their use of sacred music for educational purposes. Also, this text gives examples of legal conflicts brought about by improper use of religious material within the public school arena. Additionally, this text provides detailed procedure and data analysis of a survey designed to evaluate the atmosphere surrounding sacred music repertoire choices in the American music classrooms of 2017.

With a career spanning almost forty years, Canadian composer Howard Shore has become one of the most respected and sought after film composers working in the industry today. Much of his work, in particular his scores for the Lord of the Rings films, have received much academic attention, his longstanding working relationship with Canadian horror filmmaker David Cronenberg, however, has not yet benefited from such academic inquiry. A Teacher's Experience In Improvisational Music Therapy With Her Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Phenomenological Inquiry, Inbar A. Kaplan

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine the lived experience of a teacher who participated in one 30-minute Improvisational Music Therapy (IMT) session with her students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Participants included a teacher who has never participated in music therapy sessions with her students, as well as four of her students, ages 12-17, with a primary diagnosis of ASD, and each of their paraprofessionals. Data were collected and thematically analyzed based on transcriptions of the interview with the teacher and videotaped music and verbal interactions in the session. An Analysis Of Burnout And Music Therapy Methodologies, Samara Berry

The purpose of this survey study was to explore professional burnout in music therapists and factors that may increase the likelihood of experiencing it. The Maslach Burnout Inventory – Human Services Survey (1981) and researcher-developed questions were used to test for burnout and variables among board-certified music therapists, such as demographics, longevity, and the music therapists’ ideologies. The list of board-certified music therapists from 2017 was randomized and the survey was distributed to 1635 potential participants. Out of the 200 responses that were received, 199 agreed to participate in this study. On average, participants scored an average degree of burnout …

งานวิจัยเรื่องการสร้างซอสามสายของครูศักดิ์ชัย กาย มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาประวัติการสร้างซอสามสาย กระบวนการสร้างซอสามสาย และศึกษาปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงซอสามสายของครูศักดิ์ชัย กาย โดยผู้วิจัยเก็บข้อมูลการศึกษาภาคสนามระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2559 - 2561 ครูศักดิ์ชัย กาย พบปัญหาของซอสามสายว่าเสียงของซอสามสายมักจะถูกกลืนในขณะที่บรรเลงกับเครื่องดนตรีชนิดอื่น จึงได้ริเริ่มที่จะพัฒนาและยกระดับคุณภาพเสียงของซอสามสายให้ดังกังวาน และมีความไพเราะยิ่งขึ้นโดยได้ร่วมมือกับช่างซอระดับแนวหน้าของประเทศไทย ผลการศึกษาพบว่าครูศักดิ์ชัย กาย ได้ทำการอนุรักษ์และปรับปรุงทั้งรายละเอียดต่าง ๆ จากกระสวน ซอสามสายของสมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ เจ้าฟ้าบริพัตรสุขุมพันธุ์ กรมพระนครสวรรค์วรพินิต จนทำให้เกิดคุณภาพเสียงและรูปทรงในแบบฉบับของตนได้สำเร็จ ผู้วิจัยได้พบปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงซอสามสายของครูศักดิ์ชัย กาย 6 ประการ คือ 1. การสร้างกะโหลกซอสามสายที่ไร้แกนยึดทวนมีผลทำให้เกิดคุณภาพเสียงที่ดังกังวาน 2. การกำหนดรูปแบบขอบขนงซอสามสายให้มีลักษณะโค้งเว้ารับกับการขึงหน้าซอทำให้เกิดการสั่นสะเทือนของหนังหน้าซอมากขึ้น 3. พื้นผิวภายในกะโหลกซอที่เรียบมีผลทำให้การกำธรภายในมากขึ้นกว่าซอสามสายสมัยก่อน 4. การลงรักปิดทองภายในกะโหลกซอมีผลทำให้พื้นผิวภายในมีมวลหนาแน่นส่งผลทำให้มีการกำธรเสียงที่ดีขึ้น 5. การคัดเลือกหนังสำหรับขึงหน้าซอที่ใสและมีความบางประมาณ 0.15 มิลลิเมตร มีผลทำให้การสั่นสะเทือนของเสียงมีการสั่นสะเทือนเร็วขึ้น 6. รูปแบบการขึ้นหน้าซอที่ไม่หุ้มหลังกะโหลกซอมีผลทำให้กะโหลกซอสั่นสะเทือนได้เต็มที่ จึงช่วยทำให้เสียงซอมีความดังและกังวานมากขึ้นกว่าซอสามสายแบบเดิม

Tradition And Originality In The Songs Of Bruce Springsteen, Prudence Jones

Department of Classics and General Humanities Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Bruce Springsteen works within musical traditions in a way that acknowledges their influence and at the same time creates something new. This paper focuses on Springsteen’s relationship to the American folk tradition and the ways in which he creates a dialogue with that tradition in order to offer his own distinct perspective. By looking at Springsteen’s lyrics and their intertexts, we can appreciate how he engages the tradition and transforms it. Ultimately, his audience makes meaning from his songs by understanding them as part of a tradition, recognizing the earlier works that inform Springsteen’s lyrics, and considering both the effect …

The Aepem Collection: A Set Of Annotated Traditional French Music Scores, Pierre Beauguitte

The aim of this paper is to present the AEPEM collection, consisting of more than five thousand scores of French traditional melodies. The original material and the digitized collection are described. A short statistical analysis is performed to compare this collection to existing ones in terms of melodic profiles.
